Chapter 613: Chapter 613: The Common Fault of Old Men

Earlier, we gradually got all the home appliances ready, and today we had the moving company bring over some daily essentials.

Stephen Sutton was directing the movers on site, while Phoebe King leisurely enjoyed afternoon tea at Audrey Sutton’s house. It seemed that with Stephen around, she didn’t worry about the new house at all.

She knew Stephen was more meticulous than her, and anything she could think of, Stephen would surely consider too.

Besides, she had already discussed the general setup of the new home with him, so she just had to sit back and wait for the review.

Audrey Sutton was baking some snacks in the oven, and Phoebe King watched enviously, "Audrey, you’re really talented. I thought about learning this before, but every time I watched tutorials online, they seemed easy. Yet, my results never looked the same. Yours, on the other hand, really makes me hungry just looking at them."

"Sister Phoebe, are you hungry? You seem hungry for everything."

"A bit, yes. Your big brother cooked at home this afternoon; it was too bland. I wanted something spicy, but he wouldn’t let me eat it. It just killed my appetite."

The oven beeped, and Audrey Sutton, wearing gloves, took out the baking tray, took a fruit-flavored cupcake, placed it on a plate, and handed it to Phoebe King, saying, "Try it."

"It smells delicious! Audrey, teach me this when you have time. Your big brother always complains about my cooking. If I could make something like this, he’d surely be surprised."

Audrey Sutton smiled and said, "You’re moving so close; I’ll gradually teach you my secret recipes."

Audrey hadn’t even had time to hand a small spoon to Phoebe King when Phoebe directly took the cupcake and bit into it, going, "Delicious, delicious, delicious! It’s sweet and fragrant; it makes me feel so happy!"

"There are a few more left in there. Should I call my big brother to come over and try one?"

Phoebe King didn’t even think before saying, "No, no! What I make can never compare to yours. If he tastes what you’ve made, he won’t be impressed when I finally get it right."

After eating three in a row, Phoebe King said, "Audrey, can you grill some skewers? The spicy and fragrant kind."

Hearing this suggestion, Audrey also got a bit tempted, and she immediately stood up, saying, "I think there are some chicken wings in the fridge, let me check."

"Any pork belly?"

Audrey shook her head, "No pork belly; he’s into fitness, and I don’t eat fatty meat. We usually just buy ribs."

"Then let’s do chicken wings. Hurry up; tell me what to do. I’m afraid your big brother will come over and ruin it."

Audrey joked, "Sister Phoebe, did you move here just to get private cooking lessons from me?"

Phoebe King laughed, "I didn’t think of that at first, but it’s a plan now. Ever since I got pregnant, I haven’t been able to enjoy my meals. Everything’s just too bland."

Audrey Sutton put the chicken wings in the microwave to defrost, set the timer, and said, "Luckily, I like sour food; otherwise, Shane wouldn’t let me eat spicy things either."

Phoebe King said, "My mom always tells me not to be too cautious during pregnancy, just eat what I have an appetite for. But your big brother insists on controlling everything. Do you think he’s got that from being used to managing students? It’s like he’s got a professional affliction now?"

Audrey thought for a moment and said, "Probably not, right? Shane hasn’t been a teacher."

Phoebe confidently analyzed, "Then it must be a common old-man problem."

Audrey was curious and said, "Do you dare to say that in front of my big brother?"

Phoebe King replied, "Am I stupid? Saying that in front of him would just be asking for trouble."

Audrey said, "I thought Sister Phoebe was that bold."

Phoebe King answered, "Bold doesn’t mean being reckless. I’m afraid your big brother might hit me."

"Ding dong——"

The doorbell rang, and both Phoebe King and Audrey Sutton were startled.

"It must be your big brother! Hide the chicken wings quickly!"

Phoebe said this as she hurriedly walked to the door, took a look, and then opened it, smiling at Stephen Sutton standing outside, "Honey, what brings you here?"

Stephen Sutton looked at Phoebe King, then at Audrey Sutton, who obediently called him "Big Brother" from the doorway, and he just had a feeling they were up to no good.

Stephen glanced inside the house and asked Phoebe King, "What are you up to?"

Phoebe glanced at Audrey Sutton with slight guilt and replied to Stephen, "Watching TV, of course."

Audrey quickly joined in, changing the subject by saying, "Big Brother, is the house over there all set up?"

"Not yet, just came over for a glass of water."

When Audrey heard this, she quickly invited Stephen in, "Come in and sit, Big Brother. I’ll get you some water."

Stephen followed Phoebe King into the house, looking around as he walked, always feeling like they were hiding something from him.

As they passed by the countertop, seeing it slightly messy, Stephen asked Phoebe, "What did you eat?"

Phoebe quickly pulled Stephen towards the coffee table in the living room, pointing at the small cakes Audrey had baked earlier, "Just some snacks Audrey made. We’re just having something while watching TV. Do you want to try? They’re still warm."

Audrey walked over with a cup of water, handed it to Stephen, and said, "Big Brother, come over for dinner tonight. You haven’t got anything ready at your place, so just eat here with us."

Stephen took the water, nodded, and said, "Just make a few simple dishes, don’t go to any trouble."

Audrey quickly said, "It’s no trouble at all. Are you hungry? Should I peel an apple for you?"

Stephen drank the water, put down the cup, and said, "No need, I’ll head back now. If you’re watching TV, just watch TV. Don’t eat too much of this stuff, or you won’t be able to eat dinner."

Audrey nodded quickly, "Sure, once these are finished, that’s it."

When Stephen left, he glanced around again but didn’t notice anything unusual. Still, he couldn’t shake the feeling that these two were eager to get rid of him.

Could it be... what was on TV before he came? Something inappropriate for children perhaps?

He’d heard from Six several times about the small yellow books on Audrey’s shelf.

Stephen thought to himself, this girl is growing up after all. He can’t manage these things forever, let them be. Anyway, they’re going to be moms, and there’s no need to shy away from sex education.

Phoebe King stood by the door, only relaxing after seeing Stephen walk away, then urged Audrey Sutton, "Audrey, hurry up. I can only be at ease once the food is in my stomach."

"They need to marinate to be flavorful. Don’t worry, he won’t be back for a while."

Audrey was mixing seasonings with the chicken wings in a bowl, and Phoebe King was lamenting how she didn’t have Audrey’s culinary skills, as she couldn’t even tell the difference between these seasonings.

Unexpectedly, just as Audrey was placing the marinated chicken wings onto a baking tray, they heard the sound of a car approaching outside the house...
