Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 612: A Ticket’s Fate
After a few busy days, the funeral was over.
From the day Wallace Warner passed away until the burial, Shane Warner’s emotions seemed quite stable.
Only Audrey Sutton knew he had secretly started smoking again.
This time she didn’t say anything, just pretended not to notice.
Although Audrey wished she could replace cigarettes to ease his inner turmoil, she understood that Shane wouldn’t talk to others about his deepest matters, especially worries. He had gotten used to digesting those sorrows himself.
Audrey didn’t push him to open up, she just silently stayed by his side. When he stood on the balcony in a daze, she would quietly walk up behind him and hug him, letting him know she was always there.
In mid-December, Rivia welcomed its first snow of the winter.
The snow wasn’t heavy and didn’t leave accumulations, but you could see white snowflakes drifting in the sky.
Audrey, for once, didn’t sleep in. She immediately tossed off the covers and found Shane in the gym working out.
Shane had just stepped off the treadmill, using a towel around his neck to wipe the sweat from his face. Looking at Audrey, he asked softly, "Up so early?"
Audrey smiled as she walked over and said, "It’s snowing, and you didn’t even wake me."
"It’s so cold, why would I wake you? And you didn’t even put on your coat."
Shane turned off the gym equipment, wrapped an arm around Audrey, and headed toward the bedroom, "What do you want for breakfast?"
"I’ll make it, considering I’m up so early. You go take a shower. I’ll check what’s in the fridge and make whatever you eat."
Shane nodded, picked up Audrey’s coat from the bed, and handed it to her, "Alright, put your coat on, I’ll be down soon."
He was still as quick as ever with his showers. Audrey hadn’t even finished preparing the ingredients when Shane was already dressed and came downstairs.
"Wash your hands, I’ll do it."
Audrey watched Shane put on an apron and said, "Aren’t you tired of doing everything yourself? I can handle these chores. I’ve learned so many new dishes online lately, but you never give me a chance to show off."
Shane replied, "For the few months you’re pregnant, we both have to work a little harder. Once this little one stops giving you trouble, you can showcase your skills then."
"But you work so hard too... And it’s not just physical exhaustion."
Shane smiled, reached over to take the ingredients from Audrey’s hands, and continued cleaning them, "I know you worry about me, but don’t think your husband is that fragile. Wash your hands and get me two plates."
Audrey obediently did as asked. Shane chopped the washed ingredients and put them into the pot with the porridge, then took out a few eggs and expertly cracked them into a bowl.
It wasn’t the first time Audrey watched him crack eggs single-handedly, but she always found it incredibly cool. Every time she tried to mimic it, she was a bit clumsy—either not hitting the egg hard enough so the yolk wouldn’t come out, or dropping egg shells into the bowl along with the yolk.
As Shane stirred the eggs with chopsticks, he asked Audrey, "Isn’t it time for a prenatal check-up? It’s been over sixteen weeks, right?"
"I didn’t realize you remembered so clearly. I’ve arranged it for tomorrow, I’m going with Sister Phoebe."
Shane frowned, "What about me?"
"You can come too if you’re not busy. My brother has class tomorrow morning, so Sister Phoebe booked me in advance, and we arranged it for the same day."
"I’ll go with you."
Audrey snuggled up to Shane, smiling happily, "Last time we couldn’t see the baby’s form clearly. We should be able to see a more human shape this time."
Even though the child wasn’t in Shane’s belly, as a soon-to-be father, he also found watching a small life grow a particularly wonderful thing.
After breakfast, Shane headed to work. Audrey tidied up the kitchen, stood by the window watching the snowflakes drift outside, then took her phone, snapped a picture of the snowy little garden outside, and posted it on her feed with an artsy caption: The first person to tell you it’s snowing must really love you.
Shane wasn’t the type to frequently check social media. Plus, with meetings and work, he often didn’t look at his phone for a while, so his reactions online were always delayed, usually liking her posts a bit later.
Audrey seemed to have been influenced by Shane, as she didn’t post online as frequently as before.
Just like Shane had said before, when the person you wish to share everything with is right beside you, why post online?
Just after posting the update, a notification popped up showing a new message.
Audrey opened it to see Simon Sue sent her three words: It’s snowing.
Audrey rolled her eyes at the screen and replied with two words: Get lost!
Simon immediately sent back a cute cat emoji looking pitiful, then said: Got any time to hang out?
Without thinking, Audrey replied: No.
Simon: Seriously, having a party for Christmas. Bring your husband if you want.
Audrey: If my husband knows you’re hosting it, he definitely won’t go.
Simon: Then just sneak out; I miss you so much!
Audrey: One more word and I’ll block you!
Simon: Alright, alright, can’t even make a joke. I already invited your friends, they should all be coming. Are you sure you’re not joining?
Audrey furrowed her eyebrows and asked: Bear and them?
Simon: Yeah, the same ladies from the claw machine game.
Audrey was puzzled. Since when did those girls get chummy with Simon, planning parties without saying a word? These friends might not last!
Simon: It’s just a few of my buddies. They just want to have some fun with some ladies. If you’re worried your husband won’t agree, I’ll invite him myself.
Audrey chuckled mischievously and replied: Give it a try, see if he’ll yell at you.
Simon sent a smug emoji, saying: He still owes me for concert tickets last time. If he yells, he’s heartless.
Audrey had almost forgotten about the concert ticket connection between Shane and Simon.
But Audrey thought this weak connection wouldn’t change much, just whether the rejection would be blunt or polite.
After all, during the claw game last time, Shane might have already disliked Simon for being petty.
After a brief chat with Simon, Audrey went upstairs to draw.
In the afternoon, she received a message that Phoebe King was moving house. The new place was just across the creek from Audrey’s, with one house in between. From the rooftop terrace on the third floor, you could see Phoebe’s new home.
