Chapter 614: Chapter 614: Your Husband Is So Stingy

Audrey Sutton looked at the mess on the kitchen counter, then at the baking tray in her hand, momentarily stunned, unsure of where to start hiding things.

Phoebe King quickly realized that Shane Warner was probably back, and reacted swiftly, heading toward the door while saying to Audrey Sutton, "I’ll stall him, you quickly tidy up!"

As Audrey Sutton was stuffing the baking tray into the cupboard under the counter, she suddenly realized something and stopped her actions of hiding the chicken wings. She felt it wasn’t necessary to hide them; after all, she was just baking chicken wings. Shane Warner shouldn’t have much to say about it, maybe just tell her to eat less to avoid getting a sore throat.

Shane Warner had become more of a foodie thanks to her influence. She just needed to call him to eat together later, and all would be well.

Shane Warner got out of the car and saw someone at the door who was not who he expected. With a frown, looking not particularly welcoming, he asked Phoebe King, "What are you doing here?"

Phoebe King stood at the doorway with a cheerful smile and said, "Just a neighborly visit, you know."

Shane Warner: "Have you moved?"

Phoebe King: "In the process. How about I take you over for a tour?"

Shane Warner walked over, pushed the door open a bit, and said, "Let’s talk about it later."

Phoebe King quickly blocked him, "Right now, you haven’t changed your clothes, so why not take a quick look over there? Otherwise, you’ll get cozy in the heated room and not want to go out later."

With a frown, Shane Warner sensed something was off with Phoebe King. Plus, knowing he was back, Audrey Sutton was nowhere to be seen, which was also odd. His gaze immediately turned toward the house just in time to see Audrey Sutton walk to the door. She smiled and said, "Honey, you’re back? Why so early today?"

Shane Warner looked puzzledly at Audrey Sutton’s apron and asked, "What are you doing?"

Audrey Sutton explained, "Big brother and Sister Phoebe are moving today, aren’t they? They won’t tidy up in a short time, so I invited them over for dinner at home. I’m already preparing dinner."

Phoebe King turned to look at Audrey Sutton and secretly gave her a thumbs-up.

Hearing this, Shane Warner indeed said nothing more and started changing his shoes at the door, saying, "Let me do it."

Phoebe King quickly winked at Audrey Sutton, apparently still concerned about her chicken wings and worried that Shane Warner might interfere with their wing feast.

Audrey Sutton instantly found an excuse and said, "Honey, could you do me a favor and go buy something?"

Shane Warner paused his shoe-changing, nodded, and asked, "What do you need?"

"Just some green onions, ginger, and garlic, and perhaps some pork belly for braising. Sister Phoebe wants to eat it. You can pick other vegetables as you see fit since there’s not much left in the fridge. If I think of anything else, I’ll text you on WhatsApp."

Shane Warner responded with an "Okay," changed back into his dress shoes, grabbed his car keys, and turned to leave.

After watching Shane Warner’s car drive away, Phoebe King hurriedly pulled Audrey Sutton back into the house, "Quick, quick, eat them up as soon as they’re done."

"There’s not much cumin left; should I have him buy some more?"

Phoebe King: "Just add more chili powder."

With that, Phoebe King found the bottle of chili powder and generously sprinkled a thick layer on the chicken wings in the baking tray, making her mouth water, "I can’t wait, let’s bake them."

While putting the tray into the oven, Audrey Sutton said, "Chicken wings without cumin have no soul."

Phoebe King: "Chili is my soul. Right now, I’m just a zombie who wants to eat chicken wings."

During the twenty-something minutes the oven was working, Phoebe King was restless, constantly checking the door and the window, as if afraid someone else might come and stop her from eating the wings.

Once the oven timer was up, Phoebe King rushed over eagerly, her gluttonous demeanor making Audrey Sutton wonder if her brother was mistreating Sister Phoebe.

There were eight chicken wings in total. Audrey Sutton ate two, and Phoebe King devoured six in one go.

After finishing, the two of them hurriedly cleaned up the "crime scene," and Audrey Sutton dutifully started preparing for dinner.

More than ten minutes later, Shane Warner returned with groceries, and the cooking duty fell on him.

Audrey Sutton stood beside him, helping out, and asked, "Why did you come back so early today?"

Shane Warner: "I have to go abroad tomorrow, so I came back to prepare."

Audrey Sutton paused, with a slightly disappointed look in her eyes as she gazed at Shane Warner, "So you won’t be accompanying me for my check-up tomorrow morning?"

Shane Warner: "I’ll leave in the afternoon. I’ll accompany you for the check-up in the morning, and we’ll have lunch together before I go."

Audrey Sutton: "How many days will you be gone?"

"At most three days. I should be back in time to spend Christmas with you." Mentioning Christmas, Shane Warner took the opportunity to ask, "Did you tell that guy to come find me?"

Audrey Sutton thought for a moment before realizing who "that guy" was, then smiled, "Did he really come find you? He asked me first, inviting both of us. I told him you definitely wouldn’t go, so he said he’d talk to you himself. I thought he was joking, didn’t expect he’d really dare to find you."

Shane Warner: "Seems like you two secretly keep in touch often, huh?"

Audrey Sutton paused her vegetable-washing, turned to Shane Warner with a smile, and asked, "Are you jealous?"

Shane Warner said sternly, "Not at all."

Audrey Sutton: "I’m really curious about what you talked about over the phone."

Shane Warner said nothing, and glanced disapprovingly at Phoebe King sitting on the sofa playing on her phone, "Really acting like a guest, huh? Come over and help with the vegetables!"

Lazily, Phoebe King glanced at Shane Warner. Audrey Sutton quickly said, "What vegetables? I’m almost done washing. Sister Phoebe, you take a rest. I’ll join you to watch TV later."

Phoebe King: "Look at her, she’s younger than you but way more sensible!"

Audrey Sutton quickly winked at Phoebe King, knowing Shane Warner would get upset over age-related comments. Just before Shane Warner could get angry, Audrey promptly changed the topic, "Where’s the pork belly? I’ll cut it."

Shane Warner’s tone softened considerably as he spoke to Audrey Sutton, saying, "Dry your hands and go watch TV. It’s still early, I’ll take my time."

Audrey Sutton leaned over and kissed Shane Warner on the cheek unexpectedly, "Thank you for your hard work, honey."

Shane Warner couldn’t resist her charm and suddenly felt that being diligent and conscientious was fine after all.

As she washed her hands, Audrey Sutton asked him, "By the way, did you respond to Simon Sue when he reached out to you?"

Shane Warner: "I’ll discuss it when I return from my trip."

"Alright. I’ll go upstairs to pack your clothes now. I’ll pack more warm clothes for you. Better to dress warmly. Don’t end up in the hospital over there again; I really don’t want to fly over in this cold weather to take care of you."

Shane Warner: "Whatever you pack, I’ll wear."

Seeing Audrey Sutton head up the stairs, Phoebe King quickly got up to follow her, "I’ll go check out your kids’ room!"

Shane Warner called after Phoebe King’s back, warning, "Don’t mess with anything!"

Phoebe King, holding Audrey Sutton’s hand, made a face at Shane Warner and deliberately complained to Audrey, "Your husband’s so stingy!"
