Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 524: I Have a Date with a Woman
Audrey Sutton mumbled, "Anyway, I just think the coffee in your office tastes better. I’ll stop by the bathroom while I’m at it."
After saying that, Audrey pulled Shane Warner toward the direction of the elevator.
Shane Warner understood her purpose. Wasn’t she just trying to find an excuse to check out his office?
In short, she still didn’t trust him. She had to see for herself that he wasn’t hiding a woman in his office to be at ease.
Shane Warner didn’t want her to be so restless at night that she couldn’t sleep, so he figured fulfilling her wish would allow her to head back peacefully.
Once they reached the office, Audrey pretended to get some water, her eyes darting around everywhere.
Shane didn’t bother with her; he sat on the sofa by the coffee table, took out medicine prescribed by the hospital, counted the pills into his palm as per the dosage on the box, and pushed the cup on the coffee table towards Audrey, instructing, "Pour me a cup."
Audrey immediately withdrew her wandering gaze and eagerly jogged over to help him with the water.
Shane said, "Finish drinking and head downstairs; Phoebe is still waiting for you there."
Audrey pouted, "Why do I feel like you’re always pushing me away?"
Shane replied, "Because I have a date with a woman who’ll be here soon."
Audrey paused while pouring the water, but then realized Shane was deliberately provoking her. Hearing a bit of resentment in his words, Audrey said, "Honey, I believe you wouldn’t do such a thing."
After speaking, Audrey returned to his side with a smile, respectfully handing him the cup, "Honey, please drink."
Shane took the cup, drank the water at a suitable temperature, swallowed the pills in his palm, and heard Audrey say, "Honey, after you take your medicine, go rest early. I’ll head to the bathroom and be on my way."
After speaking, Audrey pushed open the door to Shane’s resting room and casually closed it behind her.
However, Shane quietly walked over and silently opened the door, only to see Audrey snooping like a thief, lifting his blanket and checking his pillows.
"The bathroom is over here."
Hearing Shane’s chilly voice, Audrey involuntarily shivered, turned around guiltily, and quickly got off the bed, smiling awkwardly at Shane, "I was just tidying up your bed for you."
Shane crossed his arms, leaning against the doorframe, "No need to tidy, it’ll just get messy again later."
Audrey felt his words had a double meaning, but also knew he might be a bit displeased and said it intentionally.
Not finding any long strands of hair eased her mind completely. Smiling ingratiatingly at him, she turned and went into the bathroom.
Inside the bathroom, she couldn’t help but look around. Sitting on the toilet, she scanned the room but found nothing unusual, letting her sigh in relief.
Then she wondered why she made a scene like this at night?
After washing her hands and walking out, she said to Shane, "I’m heading back now."
Shane replied, "Not going to wait a bit longer? Someone will be here soon."
Audrey pouted, "I don’t think you have the guts. I really just came to check on you, no other reason. Sleep early, take your meds on time, and come home soon, alright?"
Shane wasn’t genuinely angry, just nodded, "Okay, let’s go, I’ll walk you down."
Audrey said, "No need, I can go down myself. You go shower and rest."
Shane wasn’t sure if she had truly let go of her wild thoughts, so he said, "Rest assured and head back. If you really can’t trust me, you can always come and check the security footage later. Look at whichever point you want."
Audrey quickly waved her hand, putting on an extremely generous demeanor, "I don’t like hearing that. Am I that kind of person? I said I trust you, what surveillance footage are we checking? Go to bed early, I’m leaving!"
Audrey picked up the cup of water she hadn’t finished earlier, waved at him with a smile at the office door, and turned towards the elevator.
Shane stood by the office door, watching her enter the elevator. Once the doors closed and started descending, he withdrew his gaze and returned to the office.
He then walked to the office window, squinting his eyes to look outside. He waited for Audrey to come out of the building and watched her get into Phoebe’s car. Feeling somewhat relieved, he picked up his phone and sent Phoebe a message: Drive slowly, stay safe on the road.
Sitting in the car, Audrey fastened her seatbelt while hearing Phoebe’s teasing voice, "Back so soon?"
Audrey, after fastening her seatbelt, turned to her in confusion, "Back so soon what?"
Phoebe grinned mischievously, "What did you two go upstairs for? I was about to leave." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Audrey caught the innuendo in Phoebe’s words and rolled her eyes, "I just went up for a glass of water and a bathroom break."
Phoebe chuckled, "I thought Shane was desperately needy, and you two went up for a round."
Audrey shot back with a glare, "Sister Phoebe!"
Seeing Audrey’s embarrassed look, Phoebe stopped teasing her, started the car, and asked, "So, is Shane upset?"
Audrey pouted, "You have the nerve to ask, dropping the blame on me and running off."
Phoebe laughed and explained, "Think about it, if it was me taking the blame, Shane would definitely give me trouble. If it’s you, it’s different. Even if you made a mistake, Shane wouldn’t bear to blame you."
Audrey said, "He was a little upset earlier, even purposely said something to annoy me, claiming he invited a woman over."
Phoebe, enjoying the drama, said, "Maybe he really did invite someone and said that deliberately to make you trust his integrity."
Audrey pouted, "Impossible, he wouldn’t do that."
Phoebe teasingly exposed her, "If you truly believed that, we wouldn’t have taken this trip."
Audrey took a deep breath and said, "There are many men who cheat during their wives’ pregnancies, even when they were deeply in love before. They just can’t endure physical loneliness, so honestly, there is some concern."
Phoebe nodded understandingly, "If it were me, I’d overthink too. Besides, women get more sensitive during pregnancy. It’s not surprising you’d think like this, and Shane understands you. He wouldn’t be surprised at what you did."
Audrey felt something was off, "What do you mean by that, Sister Phoebe?"
Phoebe laughed, "I still remember someone causing a scene when checking up on her partner, sobbing on the roadside at night."
Audrey glared at Phoebe in embarrassment, "I told you not to bring that up again!"
"Alright, alright, I won’t mention it. After all, I’m counting on you to put in a good word for me with your big brother."
