Chapter 525: Chapter 525: A Family of Four

After being apart for three days, Shane finally returned home.

Before coming back, he hadn’t informed Audrey of his return, and at that moment, Audrey was in school attending classes.

He pushed open the front door, and the house was tidier than he had imagined. Except for two cups of milk tea on the coffee table, there were no takeout boxes or leftover food.

He looked at the snack bags on the table, and they weren’t the type Audrey usually liked to eat; they were probably Phoebe King’s doing.

Since Audrey got pregnant, she’s been quite conscious about her diet.

Moreover, she’s been picky lately; she probably wouldn’t touch these fried snacks.

Shane lightly tidied up the things on the coffee table, pressed the button for the robot vacuum cleaner by the wall, then went upstairs to take a shower and change clothes before heading to the school to pick up Audrey.

To attend the wedding of the family’s eldest and second eldest, Audrey’s grandparents were coming over today.

Stephen had classes in the afternoon; Franklin had just been discharged from the hospital and was recuperating at home; Arthur’s whereabouts had been mysterious lately, often not even having dinner at home, and when asked about it, he would brush it off with a few words; Scott’s cat was sick, and he would be taking it to the hospital in the afternoon, no one knowing when he’d be back; Evan’s job wasn’t flexible, so he couldn’t wander around aimlessly; as for Norman, he went to his studio to play games, saying he was preparing for some winter tournament.

Hazel asked Shane to pick up the grandparents from the airport, and Shane agreed readily.

It just so happened that Audrey was getting off school early in the afternoon, so it was perfect timing to pick her up first before heading to the airport for her grandparents.

Shane hadn’t told Audrey he was coming, so after school, Audrey was leisurely strolling out of the school building with Barry Barrett, holding his hand.

Audrey thought that since Shane wasn’t home and Phoebe was almost impossible to find during the day, she’d be bored going back, so she planned to hang out in the dormitory for a while before returning home.

She didn’t know Shane was there to pick her up, so she was casually glancing toward the road, looking for his car.

Seeing that Audrey hadn’t noticed him at all and was about to walk past him with Barry Barrett, Shane finally got out of the car, deliberately coughed to attract Audrey’s attention.

Audrey turned her head, saw him and immediately let go of Barry Barrett’s hand, running joyfully toward Shane, exclaiming, "Why are you here? You didn’t even call me!"

Shane looked down at her, seeing her in person was far more satisfying than just over a screen.

"Have you recovered from your cold?"

"Yes."

"Why are you wearing such thin clothes now that you’re over your cold? Where’s your sweater?"

Shane looked up at the sun in the sky and said, "It hasn’t been cold these past two days."

Audrey pulled open her collar, revealing the sweater inside to him, and said, "I’m wearing it, it’s still really cold in the mornings and evenings."

Shane had to say, "I wore it this morning, but just changed clothes after I went home."

Audrey looked at him skeptically, and Shane opened the car door to motion for her to get in.

Audrey then remembered Barry Barrett, and standing by the car, she waved distantly to Barry Barrett, saying, "Bear, I’m not having dinner with you all today, let Flora know."

Barry Barrett, used to Audrey prioritizing the relationship, responded as usual, "Got it, absence makes the heart grow fonder, we understand, Flora will forgive you."

Audrey rolled her eyes from afar, bent down to get in the car, and only then noticed a rose on the seat.

She reached for it, looked at Shane, and asked with a smile, "Did you buy this for me?"

"Who else?"

Audrey smiled and said, "Why didn’t you take it out and give it to me?"

Shane replied, "I just did."

Audrey: "I mean in front of everyone."

Shane: "I gave it to you, not putting on a show, why should others see it? Get in, I’m closing the door."

...

Holding the flower, feeling pleased, Audrey realized after a while that they weren’t on the way home, then asked, "Where are we going?"

Shane: "Didn’t Mom tell you?"

Audrey shook her head dumbfounded, clearly unaware of anything.

Shane: "Grandpa and Grandma are here, we’re going to pick them up from the airport."

Audrey suddenly realized, "Didn’t they say in the group chat that they’d come in a couple of days? What’s my mom’s plan? She called you but not me, and now I have to hear about our family matters from you?"

Shane didn’t hold back, saying, "Calling you wouldn’t help, you can’t decide anyway."

Audrey frowned, "I may not decide for others, but can’t I decide for you?"

Shane chuckled, and without answering, asked, "What do you think?"

Audrey, feigning arrogance, firmly stated, "I think I can manage; you have to listen to everything I say. If I tell you to go east, would you dare go west?"

Shane merely smiled, following her lead, "I wouldn’t dare."

She continued triumphantly, "That’s what I thought."

They arrived at the airport earlier than expected, and Audrey held Shane’s hand as they slowly walked towards the arrival gate.

In the crowd at the arrival gate, Audrey spotted a particularly familiar figure.

Curiously, she walked closer, examined for a bit, confirmed she hadn’t mistaken, and tapped that person on the shoulder, asking perplexedly, "Arthur? You’re here too? Are you also picking up Grandpa and Grandma?"

Arthur was slightly startled upon seeing Audrey, clearly not expecting her presence. It seems he also wasn’t aware that the grandparents would be arriving today: "Are they coming today?"

Audrey nodded: "Grandma wanted to come early to play for a few more days, so they came ahead of schedule. If you’re not here for them, who are you waiting for then?"

Arthur’s expression stiffened slightly, and he answered calmly, "A friend."

Without much thought, Audrey mischievously asked, "A guy or a girl?"

Arthur remained silent, just looking towards the direction of the exit.

A curious Audrey looked over too, thinking who could possibly make her perpetually busy brother come to pick someone up personally.

Amidst the people coming from the exit, Audrey suddenly recognized someone.

It was the perfume shop owner, along with her two kids, likely returning from a vacation since Audrey had seen her sharing photos on social media.

Audrey was briefly hesitant about whether to greet them when she saw the little girl letting go of Janelle Tollman’s hand and eagerly running towards the right passage, shouting, "Uncle Archer!"

The next moment, she saw a man bend down to lift the little girl into his arms.

Janelle Tollman smiled, leading the little boy to Wayne Archer, chatting and laughing with him.

Wayne Archer, holding the little girl with one arm, naturally took the suitcase Janelle Tollman handed to him.

The scene looked like a harmonious and blissfully happy family of four.
