Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 330: Anonymous Delivery
Through the glass, Audrey Sutton’s hand fell on the cold surface, her gaze misaligned as if her hand was touching his face, gently caressing the glass unconsciously.
Suddenly, Shane Warner opened his eyes and turned to look at her.
His gaze wasn’t as sharp as usual, somewhat scattered, as if he hadn’t fully woken up yet.
Seeing him open his eyes, a smile immediately appeared on Audrey’s face; she leaned closer to the glass, opened her mouth to call out to him, but then realized that he couldn’t hear her through the glass, so she stopped.
Shane looked at her, weakly curling his lips, appearing very frail.
Seeing some reaction from him, Audrey paused in surprise, then picked up the phone beside her, but was so excited she didn’t know what to say for a moment, squeezing out only one sentence: "...Honey, do you feel any better?"
Although he gave a slight nod, it was clear from his lack of energy to speak that he wasn’t doing well.
Holding the phone, Audrey choked up a bit, and seeing her cry, Shane parted his lips, his lips a bit dried, and couldn’t make a sound, though his eyes were full of smiles.
It was as if when he usually saw her cry, he would first tease her for being a crybaby and then ask why she was crying.
He wasn’t in good spirits, so Audrey talked to him for a while in a self-soothing manner. Then a medical staff entered to change his medication, and the attending physician advised Audrey to let the patient rest more. Only then did Audrey reluctantly put down the phone and wave to Shane.
She hoped that when she came to see him again tomorrow, he would be somewhat better.
After leaving the ICU, Evan Sutton took Audrey to change her bandages, and only then did they see the wound on her arm. His eyes showed subtle distress as he said, "It might leave a scar."
Audrey looked at the gash on her wrist herself; in the past, with such a deep cut on her arm, she would have been crying out loud, but this time she didn’t make a sound. After all, someone more seriously injured than her, who almost lost their life, was still lying in the ICU, so she felt ashamed to complain about her pain.
She thought, if it weren’t for Shane being by her side at that time, everyone might be busy attending her funeral right now.
Compared to life, a scar is nothing to worry about.
Hazel Yates stood by, sympathy filling her face as well: "Mom will find someone to ask about scar removal ointments, so you can apply some later."
Audrey gently smiled, lowered her sleeve, and said, "It’s alright."
"Ever since getting married, you’ve grown up—you used to need coaxing even for a shot."
"Mom, I’m in my twenties now, stop comparing me to when I was a kid."
"No matter whether you’re twenty, thirty, or forty, you’re still a child in front of your mom." Hazel said, holding Audrey’s hand and standing up, then told Evan, "Luna, you get back to your work, I’ll take Audrey home first."
Evan nodded, asking Audrey, "Do you still have painkillers?"
"I have two left, that’s enough. It’s not that painful actually."
Hazel exposed her, saying, "You’re not crying out because Shane’s injuries are worse than yours, right? Even Mom feels the pain looking at you; take another pill when you get home."
The family driver picked them up from the hospital, and halfway through the drive, Audrey suddenly remembered a delivery message she had yet to collect. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"Mom, I want to head back for a bit, I have a package over there."
Hazel immediately instructed the driver to change direction, and Audrey got out of the car to retrieve the package from a locker.
The package was about the size of an envelope, very light to hold, and the contents were unknown.
Since the driver was waiting by the roadside, Audrey didn’t open it there; she waited until she was back in her room at home to open the package.
Inside the black package was an envelope about a centimeter thick. Audrey tore open the envelope, pouring its contents onto her desk, and a stack of photos slipped out.
Audrey furrowed her brow in confusion, picking up one photo to look at it. The photo depicted a crane lifting a silver-gray sedan from a bridge, which had been obviously severely damaged beyond recognition.
Confused, Audrey picked up other photos and discovered they were all newspaper photo clips related to the car accident that had happened to Sean Warner, the Warner heir, some years ago.
Only then did Audrey understand that the photo of the sedan was likely the car Sean had been in when he had his accident.
The newspapers only described some surface details of the accident, concluding it was an accident.
Other sets of photos seemed to be screenshots from some forum’s comment section.
Like the analysis of a serial killer’s psychology by experts she had read online some time ago, these pictures’ comments also pointed out conspiracy theories regarding Sean’s accident.
Some comments aligned with Shane’s understanding, thinking it was all orchestrated by Vincent Warner.
While other comments pointed the finger at Shane.
They claimed Shane and Sean were only brothers on the surface, calling Shane insincere and ruthless, pretending to respect and love his brother while being dissatisfied that their grandfather wanted to pass everything to Sean.
Driven by jealousy, he murdered his older brother and pinned the blame on Vincent, ending up as the biggest winner himself.
Judging by the current outcome alone, Shane did indeed successfully acquire some of the Warner’s assets.
However, Audrey thought these claims were pure slander against Shane, believing he was not someone who would hurt his family for profit.
People who don’t know Shane might believe the nonsense online, but she absolutely believed Shane would never betray his brother.
Even now, he still kept a photo of his brother by his bedside, wore the ring his brother wore when alive, and whenever he saw striped suits his brother loved, he would think of him. How could such a person possibly harm his own brother?
Audrey wasn’t struggling with the truthfulness of these contents, as she firmly believed in Shane deep inside.
She was more concerned about who sent her these items and their purpose.
Putting down the photos, she picked up the black package bag that had wrapped everything earlier, and checked the sender information on the courier slip.
The name "Ming" was written, obviously a randomly fabricated name, and the address was a vague large area without specific details.
Audrey picked up her phone again and dialed the number on the courier slip, only to find it wasn’t in service.
She calmly analyzed the situation; the Warner’s struggles never really involved her much anyway, and since it all happened many years ago, with the old man passing and the inheritance settled, why would anyone send her these things now?
The only possibility she could think of was that someone wanted to drive a wedge between her and Shane.
