Chapter 301: Chapter 301: The Position of the Third Young Mistress

Barry Barrett and Audrey Sutton weren’t seated together for long before Nolan Hawke called Barry over to introduce him to his friends.

Flora Lane can’t sit still at these kinds of gatherings; she had her eye on a handsome guy with mixed heritage and went over, pretending it was a chance encounter.

Before she went to flirt with the man, she reminded Seraphina Vaughn to keep an eye on Audrey Sutton, worried that Clarissa Morgan might bother her.

Audrey Sutton actually isn’t that afraid of Clarissa Morgan; she even hopes Clarissa will do something, so she has a reason to reveal Clarissa’s true colors and expose her sly tricks.

It’s always better to have your enemy in the open than hidden.

Best scenario? Just catch some gossip about Clarissa Morgan; that might even help Quentin Sterling see the true nature of the person he’s sharing his life with.

As Audrey was thinking, Clarissa Morgan started heading their way.

She greeted Audrey Sutton with a big, open smile: "Audrey, you’re here too?"

As she spoke, Clarissa glanced around, "Didn’t Shane come with you?"

"Wow, Sister Clarissa sure is keen on my husband."

Clarissa Morgan glanced at Seraphina Vaughn, probably because someone was nearby, and didn’t provoke Audrey too much, she smiled lightly and said, "I’m very interested in you too, sister! I heard your comic is being adapted into a film, really happy for you—such achievements at such a young age."

Audrey returned the fake smile: "Sister Clarissa flatters me."

She secretly thought that Clarissa had been paying more attention to her than she had imagined, even knowing the details of her work.

"The weather’s been nice lately. They’ve built a new golf course in West City. Maybe we should all go there together sometime?"

Audrey politely declined: "Thank you for the invite, Sister Clarissa, but I’m not interested in golf."

To be precise, Audrey isn’t interested in sports at all—and mostly, she just didn’t want to go with Clarissa Morgan.

"Really? Shane seems to like golf quite a bit. He plays well—I’ve played with him a few times in school, and when I partnered with him, I never lost." Clarissa’s tone, with a smile, carried obvious bragging.

Audrey Sutton realized this moment was the first time she learned Shane Warner could play golf.

As Shane Warner’s wife, she should be the most familiar with Shane Warner’s interests. So hearing about something she didn’t know from another woman’s mouth felt quite unsettling.

To save face, Audrey said: "He does play well, but he doesn’t enjoy it as much anymore."

Clarissa Morgan said, "Whether he enjoys it is up to Shane to say. Besides, sister, you haven’t tried golf, right? It’d be great for Shane to teach you—it’s quite interesting."

Clarissa’s words had a hidden agenda, naturally sounding unpleasant.

Just then, a girl came over and called Clarissa Morgan away.

Audrey Sutton remembered that girl—it was the one who wrongly accused her of stealing a ring last time; if she wasn’t mistaken, the girl’s name was Diana Dalton.

"Birds of a feather flock together." Seraphina Vaughn, looking at Clarissa Morgan and Diana Dalton’s backs, said casually.

Audrey Sutton chilled a bit: "You know that girl too?"

Seraphina Vaughn laughed: "A small-time star, somewhat known since her scandalous drama was pretty sensational."

Audrey wasn’t really tuned into the celebrity scene, but immediately got curious: "What kind of scandal?"

"She’s like a little bus, messed up a ten-year marriage, and pretends to be innocent. Her stories are more exciting than the dramas she acts in."

Audrey caught onto a nonessential angle: "A ten-year marriage can still be broken?"

Seraphina Vaughn rolled her eyes at her: "What do you think? Marriage’s safety isn’t defined by its duration. Some love grows fonder with time, while others face crises after long times. So you better keep a close watch on your Mr. Third Young Master, don’t think your position as Third Young Mistress is secure."

"... He’s not that kind of person, I’m not worried about him cheating."

Seraphina Vaughn mercilessly exposed her: "Even when you say it, you don’t sound confident."

Lately, her relationship with Shane Warner has warmed up; she has indeed loosened up a bit. However, ever since they married, Shane Warner hasn’t had any ambiguous relationships with other women, she should be able to trust him.

Ever since Lan Irving left, Shane Warner seems to have no so-called female friends around. The close connections he keeps are mostly his brothers.

Audrey believes that although Shane shows no signs of cheating right now, she still has to guard against those women who want to steal him away.

Since many celebrities were present today, Audrey sat beside Seraphina Vaughn and listened to lots of gossip.

She had heard the saying "the circles are messy" but never knew how messy until listening to Seraphina Vaughn tell some stories. It was a revelation for Audrey.

Looking at these seemingly glamorous people, each looking impeccable, one cannot judge solely based on appearances.

Though she learned this lesson from Clarissa Morgan herself.

Perhaps considering Barry Barrett had school tomorrow, Nolan Hawke didn’t drag the party too late; by past nine, they began cutting the cake.

While eating cake, Shane Warner sent a message asking when Audrey would return, saying he’d come to pick her up.

Audrey thought it’s quite far from home, driving over would be a hassle, so she said she’d ride back with Flora and the others later.

The same way they came, Nolan Hawke wouldn’t send someone to pick them up but also wouldn’t leave them without a ride home, right?

Shane Warner was probably reassured with her dorm mates accompanying her, so he didn’t insist on coming to pick her up, just asked Audrey to get home early.

After finishing the cake, many went to toast Nolan Hawke; he drank quite a bit and looked a bit flushed around the cheeks and neck but remained sober.

After a bit of a stir, Barry Barrett felt sorry for Nolan Hawke and persuaded him to stop drinking.

Then everyone gathered together for a large group photo, and slowly saw people off.

As Nolan Hawke’s girlfriend, Barry Barrett stayed by him, sending most guests off, which stretched until nearly eleven.

Nolan Hawke called over a driver—not the car that picked them up, but now a seven-seater, and Nolan Hawke accompanied them.

Flora said she felt a bit carsick and took the front seat; Nolan Hawke and Barry Barrett sat in the front two seats, Audrey Sutton and Seraphina Vaughn took the last row.

Flora adjusted the car’s music, playing familiar tunes that everyone sang along to, turning the ride into a mini KTV.

The atmosphere was pleasant, chatting and singing along until suddenly arriving at the school.

As the car was nearing the dormitory entrance, Barry Barrett told Nolan Hawke, "Audrey doesn’t stay in the dorm, but her house isn’t far; Brother Hawke, could you swing by and drop off Audrey as well?"
