Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 292: He Wouldn’t Dare
Audrey Sutton looked at the character design on the paper, which she drew referencing a series of photos she and Shane Warner had taken together not long ago. Although there was a discrepancy between the comic formed by lines and the real person, she thought the spirit of the character in the drawing was remarkably like Shane Warner himself.
That lofty demeanor that seemed displeased with everyone, Audrey couldn’t help but smile at the character in the drawing.
To outsiders, he always appeared stern and humorless, but in private, he had a sharp tongue but a soft heart, often nagging like a father and frequently teasing her with a serious expression. Although his words were sometimes harsh, Audrey, having figured out his temperament, found him quite endearing.
Looking at the gloomy sky outside, which had started to rain, she suddenly found herself missing him.
Audrey took out her phone to check; the message she sent him an hour ago still hadn’t been replied to.
She no longer speculated like before about why he hadn’t replied, knowing he must be busy and hadn’t replied in time. Although waiting was a bit painful, Audrey set down her phone and rested her chin, staring blankly out the window.
"Knock, knock—" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The drawing board in front of her was tapped by someone, making Audrey turn her head, "Bear?"
Barry Barrett casually pulled over a stool and sat beside her, "Look at you, Third Young Master has only been away on a business trip for a day or two, and you’re already sulking like a weak beauty, what gives?"
"What sulking? I’m just thinking!"
Barry glanced at the drawing on her board and smiled knowingly, "Drawing your husband again, are you? Isn’t that a bit much?"
This time Audrey didn’t block her drawing board with her hand or deny she was drawing Shane Warner. She just smiled and asked Barry, "How is it? Does it look like him?"
"It does. It’s obvious at a glance. Hey, why don’t you draw one for Brother Hawke too? His birthday is coming up, and I’m at a loss for what gift to give him."
Audrey’s mouth twitched, "I’m not some great artist. Isn’t this kind of a low-class gift?"
"It’s thoughtful, okay? Besides, you’re kind of a small artist now. I think you should draw one for me and him, to make a couple’s portrait."
Audrey rolled her eyes, "It’s five bucks on Taobao, are you really going to give that?"
"Nonsense, a hand-drawn piece by Comrade Sutton is a priceless treasure! How can it compare to something off Taobao?" Barry seemed to have made up her mind, immediately pulling out her phone to start searching for photos, muttering as she did, "I realized I don’t have many photos with Brother Hawke. He’s always the photographer, and I’m the model. We need to find someone to take a set of photos of us one day."
"Are you really going to give a drawing? You might as well buy a piece with collection value."
"You just help me draw it. When the weather clears up, I’ll shop around for something else to give him, but the drawing is a must."
Audrey couldn’t refuse Barry, so she helped her pick out photos.
Coincidentally, her old comic was coming to an end, and the new one was still in preparation, leaving her with time to thoughtfully ponder Barry’s request.
While selecting photos, Nolan Hawke sent Barry a message. Barry didn’t avoid Audrey and replied to Nolan right in front of her.
Audrey noticed their conversation seemed quite intimate, feeling as if they were a long-married couple.
In Nolan’s messages, he asked Barry what she wanted for dinner, as if he was going to cook for her, which was apparently not the first time.
After Barry replied, Audrey asked her, "Are you living together?"
Barry blushed and smiled, "Brother Hawke mentioned it, asking me to move in with him. He even cleared out a room and decorated it quite thoughtfully. I was tempted at the time, but Flora advised me not to rush into living together. She said to wait until summer break this year to discuss meeting the parents and settle the marriage plans before considering living together."
"Did he suggest meeting the parents?"
"Not yet, it’s just Flora’s suggestion. Brother Hawke’s parents seem to live in Rivia, but he hasn’t mentioned anything about meeting them. Maybe he feels it’s too soon. I’m kind of thinking about it, but I don’t want him thinking I’m too eager to get married."
"Lately, it doesn’t seem like he’s been coming to school to see you often?"
Barry nodded, "He told me he’d be busy these days, often out on location shoots. Most of the time, I go find him."
Hearing Barry’s words, Audrey felt it was possible she’d wrongly suspected Nolan Hawke before.
If Nolan truly had any issues, with Barry so close to him, she’d surely notice something off.
Seeing that they’re preparing to discuss marriage and have always gotten along well, it seemed like a good match.
Just as Audrey was thinking this, Barry bit her lip and glanced around before whispering to Audrey, "But I feel like he has quite a strong need in that area."
"Have you guys done it?"
"No!" Barry immediately denied it, lowering her voice to tell Audrey, "He regularly hints at it; when I go to his house for dinner a few times, he tries to get handsy with me. But he respects me and lets go when he sees I’m unwilling. Feels like he’s testing my reaction, that if I didn’t object, he might proceed. Sometimes I wonder if I’m an inadequate girlfriend, making him hold back like this doesn’t seem right either."
Audrey asked, "Has he mentioned wanting to marry you?"
Barry thought for a moment and said, "Not explicitly, but it feels like he’s subconsciously planning me into his future. The other day, when he was on location, he looked at a house and asked if I liked it, saying he wanted it to be our marital home. He even mentioned the children’s room, seems like he’s planning far ahead."
"Sigh." Audrey sighed, "I suddenly feel like I got married too quickly, didn’t go through these stages, no confession, no proposal, Shane Warner got off too easily."
"Come on, you’re just pretending you got the short end of the stick. You’re still complaining even after a flash marriage with Third Young Master Warner? I think jumping straight to marriage is great; it feels like love is guaranteed. Now, with Brother Hawke, it feels like everything’s ready except for that one last step. We live like a couple, but just don’t have the official papers. But Brother Hawke seems to have completely forgotten about getting that certificate, never brings it up."
"Maybe he thinks you don’t want it, so he’s afraid to mention it? Or he’s waiting for you to graduate."
"Do you think I should keep holding out until after we’re married? There’s over a year until graduation, can he wait another year? I’m afraid he’d think I’m too conservative and lose patience, then get swayed by some vixen outside."
"If he loves you, what’s another year? He got through being single, so another year is nothing."
Barry chuckled and asked, "Would you really let your Third Young Master tough it out?"
"Why not? I’ve turned him down plenty of times!"
"Good for you, Audrey. Aren’t you worried he’d go out looking for other girls?"
Audrey snorted, "He wouldn’t dare."
