Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 245: Morning Mood
PM.
Audrey Sutton and Phoebe King strolled leisurely out of the restaurant.
During dinner, the two of them talked about relationships for over three hours, only wrapping up when Shane called to urge Audrey to come home.
It was almost 8:30 PM when Phoebe’s car finally parked outside the villa.
After waiting at home for quite some time, Shane heard noises outside and came out, standing by the door to watch the two women step down from the car.
Expressionless, it was hard to discern his mood.
Phoebe walked towards the car trunk and said to Shane, "Why are you standing there? Come help your wife carry things."
Audrey, getting off the car later, glanced at Shane and naturally dared not boss him around. She simply followed Phoebe to the back of the car, bending down to take ten shopping bags out of the trunk.
All light clothing, not heavy at all.
Yet when Shane came over and took the bag from her hand, Audrey felt a sweet warmth in her heart.
"Sister Phoebe, would you like to come in and sit for a while?"
Just as Audrey finished her sentence, Phoebe hadn’t responded yet when Shane said, "It’s late, better head back early."
Phoebe pursed her lips, "See, someone doesn’t welcome me, not even offering me a glass of water. I guess I’ll go."
Audrey knew she was just joking, thinking it was indeed late and they were tired from a day of shopping, so she said, "I’ll invite you over for dinner another day."
"Alright." Phoebe closed the car trunk door, walking to the car door, she gave Audrey a meaningful smile, "Bought so many ’magic tricks’ today, Audrey will definitely try something novel later. I’m not someone who doesn’t understand, you guys have fun, bye now."
Upon hearing Phoebe mention this, Audrey felt incredibly embarrassed, glanced secretly at Shane, and waved to Phoebe, "Bye, text me when you get home."
Phoebe made an "OK" gesture and slipped into the car.
After watching Phoebe leave, Audrey glanced at Shane beside her again, and followed him into the house.
As she was changing into slippers by the door, she heard Shane ask her, "What ’magic tricks’?"
Audrey’s movements froze, guiltily looking at the paper bags in her hand, she chuckled dryly and replied, "Nothing."
Shane stared at her, evidently sensing she was hiding something but didn’t press further.
He turned and placed the bags on the sofa, "What did you buy?"
Upon hearing Shane’s question, Audrey looked his way and found him opening one of the bags to check. Panic surged in her heart, she rushed over and pressed the bag down, "...Just some seasonal clothes."
Shane stood by, giving her an interrogative look, asking, "Then why are you nervous?"
"Am I nervous?" Audrey’s mind raced, explaining, "...I was just thinking of showing them to you directly by wearing them."
Shane stared at her motionless, evidently not believing her excuse.
Seeing his disbelief, Audrey pulled out a paper bag with a normal dress inside, confidently opened it for him to see, "Look, I told you it’s all clothes."
Shane glanced inside without reaching in, then lowered his gaze to look at the other bags, indeed they seemed to contain clothes.
But he still felt she was guarding against him, there was definitely something off about the pile of bags she blocked with her body.
Though she didn’t let him see, he didn’t force her, only thinking to himself, did this little girl buy him a gift again and is hiding it not wanting him to know just yet.
"How much did it cost?" Shane sat sideways on the edge of the sofa, posing as a big boss waiting for an employee to report expenses.
Audrey slightly organized the pile of shopping bags, worried that clothes might accidentally slip out, she smiled and said, "Just a few outfits, didn’t spend much."
"Do you still have living expenses?"
"I haven’t finished last month’s yet! Besides, you give me so much, I’m not a pig, no way I need that much in living expenses."
Shane: "A pig doesn’t eat as much as you do."
Audrey glared at him, picking up a few bags from the sofa preparing to escape, "I’ll go shower first..."
Shane glanced at the pile of bags in her both hands, "Go ahead."
With things in her mind, Audrey didn’t chat much with Shane, she turned and went upstairs.
Once inside, she locked the room door, and holding the shopping bags, she looked around the room, trying to find a place to hide them.
Eventually, she settled on a drawer in the closet that had a lock.
Like hiding crime tools, Audrey was nervous and guilty.
She pulled out those little clothes from the bags to look at them again, recalling the image of herself wearing those clothes in the fitting room mirror, her face flushed red.
How could she possibly wear those in front of Shane? Even if they were an old married couple, she probably wouldn’t dare play such bold tricks.
If he saw she bought these things, he’d definitely think her thoughts were strange, so she must hide them well, absolutely cannot let him find out.
"Thump thump—"
Knocking sounded.
Focusing on hiding clothes, Audrey was startled, her body shivered slightly, thankfully she had locked the door, Shane twisted the lock but didn’t open the door.
She hurriedly stuffed the clothes into the drawer, closed the closet door, and walked to the door to ask him, "What’s up?"
"There’s still some sugar water in the thermos, drink it later." Shane’s voice came from outside.
"...Oh, okay, I’ll go down after my shower."
Audrey pressed her ear against the door, listening to his footsteps walk away, she breathed a sigh of relief.
It’s supposed to be sugar water, but more accurately, it’s a health remedy.
Whenever her period came, her stomach hurt, so he learned some recipes to nurture the body, brewing them occasionally for her.
The taste couldn’t be called delicious, but it was definitely better than medicine.
The most important thing was this thoughtfulness, being considerate of her health.
So even the bitterest medicine, she obediently drank as sugar water.
Past 1 AM, Shane completed his work and closed the laptop.
Still somewhat curious about what she was hiding.
Hence, he quietly sneaked into her room with the keys.
After a day out, she was evidently tired, already deeply asleep.
Using the faint light of his phone screen, Shane looked for the paper bags stacked near the closet.
The contents had all been moved out.
He checked the bedside, the desk, the dressing table...
No suspicious items found.
Fixing his gaze on that pile of shopping bags, Shane lifted each one, examining the logos on the bags, some well-known women’s brands he recognized, others he wasn’t familiar with.
Among them were six identical bags, named "Morning Mood", sounding like a fancy name, seemingly he’d heard of it before.
