Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 240: Thank You, Hubby
Upon hearing this name, Shane felt a bit uneasy, especially thinking that his car was effectively blocked here because of Simon. This made him even more displeased.
Thinking further that Simon and Audrey could be considered childhood friends, and now they could still enjoy their school life together.
Damn, the more he thought about it, the more annoyed he got.
He couldn’t drive anyway, so he simply parked the car by the roadside, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and lit one with his lighter.
"Knock knock——" The sound of a light tap on the glass. When Shane turned his head to look, Clarissa’s face appeared by the window: "Shane? Is it really you?"
Shane, who was already in a bad mood, saw Clarissa and frowned even more.
Shane lazily leaned his hand against the car window, flicked the ashes from his cigarette, and asked, "What’s up?"
Clarissa smiled and said, "I came over to run some errands. What are you doing here?"
Shane took a drag from the cigarette between his fingers and slowly exhaled the smoke before answering Clarissa’s question: "Dropping my wife off at school."
"Oh, I almost forgot Audrey is still in school. She’s really lucky to have someone pick her up and drop her off every day."
Shane chuckled lightly: "I can’t help it; I don’t feel comfortable if I don’t pick her up myself. Besides, there are a lot of bad people nowadays."
As Shane said this, he stared at Clarissa’s face, as if trying to discern something from her expression.
Clarissa instinctively thought of the last time Audrey was kidnapped. She wondered if Shane had discovered something, which made him deliberately say this. But she felt that he should only be suspicious without solid evidence.
If he had evidence, he wouldn’t just be warning her in this roundabout way.
So Clarissa pretended not to understand and continued the conversation with him: "Yeah, a while ago there was a news report about a girl being assaulted around here. It’s better to be careful."
...
In the dormitory.
Audrey was tidying her bed while chatting with Barry about what happened during the winter vacation.
Flora rushed in so quickly that she hadn’t even had time to catch her breath before saying breathlessly to Audrey, "Is your husband driving a black Jeep today?"
Audrey nodded, "Yes."
"I just saw your husband’s car as I was coming upstairs..."
Flora took a big breath, and Audrey asked in confusion, "Hasn’t he already left?"
"... Simon came today, didn’t he? There were so many people on the road that it got blocked. I first saw Clarissa by the roadside and then noticed that your husband’s car was beside her. I don’t know what they were talking about. Do you want to go down and check?"
Upon hearing this, Audrey quickly put down the pillow and pillowcase she had been working on: "Where?!"
"Near the gym, Clarissa is wearing a red dress, it’s very noticeable. If you follow the road on the right, you’ll definitely see them."
Audrey hurried out of the dormitory, running fast all the way.
From a distance, she saw Clarissa in a red dress.
Having confirmed her target, Audrey rushed towards them.
Shane saw Audrey’s figure from the rear-view mirror. He put out the cigarette that was almost finished and pushed open the car door to get out.
At first, Clarissa didn’t react, thinking Shane got out of the car because of her.
Before she could smile, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a figure in white charging towards them, and Shane’s gaze was fixed in that direction the moment he got out of the car.
Clarissa turned her head to look and finally understood why he got out.
Audrey ran over, panting, looked at Shane, then at Clarissa, who was beside him. She ran over frantically, but now didn’t know what to say and just focused on catching her breath.
Shane reached out and smoothed her windblown bangs, asking, "Did you forget something again?"
Audrey noticed the situation didn’t match what she had imagined. Originally intending to enact a scene of catching him red-handed, seeing Shane’s unhurried and calm demeanor, she suddenly felt she shouldn’t have come.
Yet, hearing Flora say Clarissa was with Shane, she couldn’t think that far at all.
"Um... Why is Sister Morgan here too?"
Audrey asked Shane, but it was Clarissa who answered: "The school hired me as a dance teacher. I’m here to take care of some paperwork today. Audrey, I guess I’m half your teacher now. You can come to me if you have any difficulties at school."
"Then I’ll thank Sister Morgan in advance."
"No need to be so polite, little sister, after all, Shane helped me a lot when we were in school." Without waiting for Audrey to reply, Clarissa turned to Shane and said: "Shane, it’s my birthday next week, bring your little sister and come have a simple meal together."
Before Shane could respond, Audrey nodded in agreement: "Sure, we will definitely be there."
Audrey now felt Clarissa posed no threat to her at all. Since Clarissa extended an invitation, she’d attend to show her just how good her relationship with Shane was, hoping Clarissa would drop those sneaky schemes and give up early on.
"Why did you run over here in such a hurry?" Shane steered the conversation back.
Audrey paused, thought for a moment, and said, "I remembered there’s a material fee at school that needs to be paid in cash, and I don’t have enough cash on me..."
As he reached into his jacket for his wallet, Shane asked, "How much do you need?"
Audrey thought for a moment and held up two fingers.
"Will two hundred be enough?"
Audrey nodded.
Shane pulled out several bills, roughly estimating them to be about a thousand, and handed them to Audrey: "Keep extra cash on you just in case."
Audrey giggled without any formality, took the money, glanced at Clarissa who was still standing nearby, and deliberately sweetly said to Shane, "Thank you, hubby!"
Shane paused momentarily as he put away his wallet. That ’thank you’ was worth the thousand plus he gave.
"You should’ve given me a call first, what if I had already left?"
"...I saw the traffic outside and guessed you hadn’t gone far yet."
Shane noticed that the cars in front had started to leave one after another and checked his watch, realizing his meeting was already running late, "Alright then, hurry back to the dorm, I have to go now."
"Okay! Go on with your work! Thank you for your hard work, hubby!"
Shane chuckled softly, suddenly finding having Clarissa around wasn’t all bad. It made Audrey’s affectionately sweet character emerge.
"I have to get going as well. Shane, don’t forget, my birthday is next Saturday, remember to bring your little sister along."
Shane only glanced at Clarissa without responding. Instead, he gave Audrey a heads-up with concern: "Hurry back to your dorm, and remember, don’t talk to strangers or take things from them."
It sounded like a casual reminder, but Audrey and Clarissa understood the underlying meaning.
