Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Becoming Officially a Couple

Audrey Sutton felt particularly aggrieved when she heard what he said, and asked him, "What do you have to be aggrieved about? You slammed the door on me! You’re always the one mad at me, aren’t you?!"

Shane Warner raised his eyebrows slightly and said with a smile, "Look at who’s mad at who now?"

Audrey Sutton said discontentedly, "You said last night that you wouldn’t make me angry again."

Shane Warner teased her with a smile, "You’re just being petty."

Audrey Sutton lowered her gaze, the light in her eyes visibly dimmed, as if feeling a bit defeated.

After a few seconds of silence, she propped up her chin and looked at him, suddenly murmuring to him, "I really liked you last night."

Unexpectedly, she spoke so directly to him, Shane Warner was stunned for a moment, his heart skipped a beat because of her words, but none of this showed on his face.

His expression remained as calm as ever, and he teased her, "So does that mean you don’t like the current me?"

Audrey Sutton seemed not in the mood for jokes, whether she was hungry or sleepy, she appeared lazy and listless.

She kept staring at him for quite a while, as if trying to discern something from his face. From her increasingly furrowed brows, it was clear she was growing more confused the more she looked.

With serious eyes and tone, she asked him, "Honestly, do you have a little bit of affection for me?"

Shane Warner set aside his teasing smile, and looking at her sincerely, he didn’t give a clear answer but said, "You’ve only been chasing me for a few days? Getting impatient so soon? If you don’t get a response, are you planning to give up?"

Audrey Sutton shook her head, "I wouldn’t give up, but if I don’t get any reaction from you, it makes me feel very defeated. Loving someone one-sidedly is really tiring, you know?"

Shane Warner didn’t expect her to reveal these little thoughts to him, and indeed, he never thought she’d feel this way.

She always seemed like a fully charged little warrior, laughing and carefree every day, as if she had no worries at all.

Seeing her like this now, she must be genuinely troubled.

Except, is she really loving someone one-sidedly?

The so-called "one-sided" is just her assumption.

"Are you saying that being with me now feels really tough?"

Audrey Sutton hung her head, sighed, and looked at him, "Because I’m trying really hard to like you, but you don’t feel anything for me, it makes me wonder if no matter what I do, I won’t win your liking. It starts making me doubt myself, like what do I have to become for you to like me?"

Shane Warner didn’t expect her little head to be filled with so much, and this perception is somewhat dangerous.

This perspective on love needed to be corrected: "Anyone who needs you to become unlike yourself isn’t worth liking, understand?"

Audrey Sutton looked at him, half-comprehending, not sure if he was telling her to be herself, or advising her not to like him.

Seeing her confused little eyes, Shane Warner sighed and rephrased, "You just need to keep being yourself and wait for me to like you."

Upon hearing this, Audrey Sutton felt a bit relieved and quickly asked, "When will you like me then?"

"When you stop asking me that question."

Audrey Sutton felt more confused, scratched her head, her voice smaller than before, her tone was less confident and sure, "I feel like you kind of like me."

Shane Warner: "Then that’s kind of it."

Although his answer sounded perfunctory, it was better than a denial.

She took a deep breath, like a deflated balloon being filled again, sat up straight, her gaze becoming firm again, and she muttered quietly, "I’ll definitely make you like me."

Shane Warner curved his lips into a smile, picked up the glass jug of juice, and refilled her nearly empty cup.

Then he heard her ask, "So... have I kind of caught you now?"

"Hmm?"

"I mean... can we now be considered boyfriend and girlfriend? Officially start dating?"

Shane Warner chuckled, gently set down the glass jug, and said to her, "Delete all the male model photos on your phone, and I’ll consider you barely qualified, and I’ll agree to be your boyfriend."

Audrey Sutton immediately took out her phone, "I’ll delete them now!"

Then she heard Shane Warner’s chilly voice, "There really are male model photos?"

Audrey Sutton paused in her scrolling, realizing he was setting a trap for her, grinned ingratiatingly at him, and said while deleting photos, "I promise there won’t be any in the future!"

Shane Warner slightly tilted his head and asked her, "Are they more attractive, or am I?"

Audrey Sutton: "You’re more attractive, you are!"

After flattering him, she hurriedly explained, "I keep these photos purely for drawing references, not because I’m attracted to them." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Shane Warner: "The cover-up exposes the truth."

Audrey Sutton: "Really!"

Shane Warner still seemed skeptical, scoffing lightly, and feigned arrogance, "Just this once."

...

Chloe Swift sat alone in the airport’s waiting lounge, preparing to return home.

She had found out where Vincent Warner was, but she didn’t go looking for him, nor did she question him about where he had been and with whom.

She didn’t even dare let him know she had been to Serephina.

Afraid he’d find out she was tracking him, making him unhappy.

However, this trip wasn’t without gains; at least she confirmed there was no ongoing contact between Stella Charlie and him, and she could tell Stella Charlie didn’t seem like the clingy type.

Even if Vincent Warner went back for Stella Charlie, after what she said to Stella Charlie, she believed Stella Charlie would reject Vincent Warner.

Now, perhaps all she could do was wait for Vincent Warner to realize there was a woman at home always waiting for him, hoping he could focus his attention on their home.

Chloe Swift thought she might actually need a child to change their current marital situation.

But since getting married, Vincent Warner had never touched her.

Let alone sharing a bed, the number of times he came home was countable.

In early spring, the weather slowly warmed up.

On the first day of school, Shane personally took Audrey Sutton to the university.

Audrey Sutton was not a freshman anymore, so there wasn’t much that required Shane’s attention, and she knew Shane was busy with work.

So when Shane offered to stay on campus to help her with formalities, Audrey Sutton directly shooed him away.

Shane saw that she hadn’t seen her dorm mates all winter break; not only wasn’t she lonely, she didn’t even have time to entertain him. So after dropping her off at the dorm, giving her a few instructions, he left in his car.

As the car drove out of the campus gate, the road was blocked by a crowd. A bunch of fangirls surged towards one direction.

Shane rolled down the window, and before he could look around, he heard a name from a passing schoolgirl: Simon Sue.
