Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 207: I Only Like My Family’s Third Young Master
Audrey Sutton originally planned to finish tidying up and then go to the supermarket with Flora to buy some ingredients for a small hot pot at home for lunch.
But around ten o’clock, Simon Sue sent a message inviting her to lunch, and Audrey still couldn’t shake off the kidnapping incident, so she agreed.
However, she felt scared going anywhere alone now, and since Flora was also free at noon, Audrey asked her to come along.
"Isn’t he trying to ask you out? Maybe I shouldn’t tag along?"
"Nonsense, Simon is just an old acquaintance from my hometown. Besides, I’m married; why would I even want to date anyone else?"
Flora laughed mischievously, "Who knows? Maybe you’re interested in trying some young meat for a change?"
Audrey playfully glared at her, blushing: "Nonsense! I only like my Third Young Master."
By eleven, after tidying up a bit, the two of them left the house.
Halfway there, Shane Warner suddenly sent a message: Are you free for lunch? I’ll have Mor come pick you up.
Audrey was tempted, but she had already promised Simon, and he’d already made the reservation, so it wouldn’t be good to cancel on him.
Thinking it over, Audrey replied: I’m helping Flora move today and having lunch with her.
She didn’t dare mention Simon to Shane Warner because he had warned her not to associate with Simon Sue.
But Audrey felt that the real threat wasn’t Simon, and he seemed to know something about the situation, so she wanted to find out more.
After ten or so minutes, they arrived at the restaurant Simon had booked.
It was lunchtime, and the first floor was bustling with people.
Audrey mentioned the name of the reservation to the staff, and they led them to the second floor,
which was much quieter than the first floor. Each table was set in a private space, though not separate rooms, just more private and calmer than downstairs.
Simon called to say he was stuck in traffic and might be a bit late, suggesting Audrey order the food first.
Having been busy all morning, Audrey and Flora were quite hungry, so they looked at the menu and each ordered two dishes without hesitation.
The dishes were served just as Simon arrived.
"Sorry to keep you two lovely ladies waiting."
Though Flora had mentioned she wasn’t interested in young guys like Simon, seeing a handsome man before her made it hard to ignore him.
"Any friend of Audrey’s is a friend of mine. No need to be formal; the food’s here, so let’s chat while we eat."
Simon smiled as he took a seat opposite them: "Care for some wine?"
Audrey and Flora exchanged a glance, as if seeking each other’s opinion. Simon continued, "This place offers good fruit wine, not too strong. Let me get a jar for you to try."
Flora smiled and nodded: "I can have a little fruit wine since I might have to work later in the afternoon."
Audrey could handle a bit of wine, so having some fruit wine was not an issue.
After Simon ordered the drinks, Audrey tasted the food and then asked Simon: "Why did you think to invite me out to lunch these days?"
"I’ve actually been meaning to, but I’ve been quite busy lately. Finally had some time today. Mainly, I wanted to apologize for the other day. You didn’t get into any argument with your husband over it, did you?"
Audrey had mentioned the kidnapping incident to Flora, so Flora wasn’t clueless about their conversation.
"No... We’re quite understanding with each other." Naturally, Audrey didn’t mention that Shane Warner had told her to be wary of Simon.
"That’s good. I was worried he might have misunderstood something."
Audrey took a bite of food, chewed slowly, and after swallowing, asked Simon, "I still haven’t figured out what exactly happened that day. I heard from my husband that you were there when he found me. How did you find me?"
Simon paused in picking up food, pursed his lips, and said, "I received a text from an unknown number, telling me to find her at that hotel. When I got there, I found you. I told the police this too, but no idea what they found."
Audrey furrowed her brows in confusion, and Flora suddenly suggested, "Could someone have been trying to create a scandal between you two? Maybe targeting Audrey or you, Simon. Think about it, if that incident had gone public, even if you did nothing in that room, it’d be hard to explain, and it would cause a lot of trouble for either of you."
Simon: "I’ve considered that possibility too. I think it’s aimed at me. When you’re popular, people will try to bring you down. Didn’t expect you, Audrey, to get dragged into it."
Audrey thought this explanation was plausible. She had suspected Clarissa Morgan since she knew both her and Simon, but figured it didn’t make sense for Clarissa to implicate Simon, given their good relationship, so Audrey dismissed her suspicions of Clarissa.
Having ruled out the suspicious people around her, it seemed now that Simon was indeed the intended target.
Audrey advised Simon, "You should still be careful in the future. Ignore calls or texts from unknown people."
Simon chuckled and nodded, "After getting duped once, I won’t fall for it again. Your husband packs quite a punch; I can’t let my face suffer because of him."
Even though Simon meant it jokingly, Audrey smiled apologetically.
Halfway through the meal, Flora received a call, spoke briefly, and then hung up. She quickly swallowed two bites of food and said, "The manager just called. A girl at the shop isn’t feeling well and took the day off, so I have to cover for her. I’ll leave first; enjoy your meal."
"So soon? At least finish your meal."
Flora had already pushed her chair back, stood up, swung her bag over her shoulder, and smiled: "It’s my first day at the shop; I have to make a good impression. I’ve eaten enough. Be careful, Audrey. Don’t get kidnapped again."
"Don’t worry, I’ll have a driver from home pick me up. I’ll walk you downstairs."
"No need, you finish your meal. I’ll just grab a taxi downstairs."
Audrey still followed Flora downstairs. There were many taxis, and they quickly flagged one down. Watching Flora get in, Audrey waved from the roadside.
"Go on, get back inside."
Seeing Flora close the window, Audrey turned around and headed back into the restaurant.
At that moment, a black car slowly searching for a parking spot was driving along the opposite road. From the driver’s seat, Lucian Quinn watched the girl in the distance and said, "Isn’t that sis-in-law?"
