Chapter 208: Chapter 208: Lying to Him

Sitting by the window in the back row, Shane Warner looked up upon hearing the sound, catching sight of Audrey Sutton as she walked into the restaurant across the street.

Even though it was just a distant back view, he was certain it was her.

The corners of his mouth lifted slightly, and he casually said to Lucian Quinn, "Let’s eat at this restaurant."

Understanding his intention, Lucian Quinn smiled and nodded, saying, "Master Shane, you can get off here; I’ll go park the car."

Shane Warner turned off the tablet in his hand and placed it next to his seat, picked up the coat beside him and draped it over his arm, waiting for the car to stop steadily before opening the door to get out.

After crossing the street, he sent a message to Audrey Sutton while walking into the restaurant: Have you finished eating?

She replied immediately: Not yet, have you eaten?

Y: Just found a restaurant.

Mor: I’m eating over at Gresham, the food here is quite good, next time if there’s a chance, I’ll bring you to try it.

Y: I’m at Gresham too, should I come over to find you now?

Audrey Sutton was taken aback upon seeing the message, glancing at Simon Sue who sat opposite her. She suddenly regretted revealing her location too quickly, thinking Gresham wasn’t particularly close to his company, assuming he might just find any restaurant opposite his office to fill up.

Unexpectedly, he ended up here as well.

Thinking it over, Audrey Sutton replied: We’ve almost finished eating, where are you? I’ll come find you once I’m done.

Shane Warner looked around on the first floor of the restaurant but didn’t see Audrey Sutton, so he went directly to the second floor.

He intended to surprise her with his sudden appearance, yet when he saw the back of her head, he also noticed the person she was dining with wasn’t her friend, but Simon Sue whom he had repeatedly warned her to avoid.

Not only did she not listen to him, but she lied to him.

Shane Warner halted his steps instead of walking over, and simply picked up his phone to reply: Who are you eating with?

Mor: You didn’t pay attention to my message, did you? I told you I’m with Flora.

After receiving such a reply, Shane Warner put away his phone and left the restaurant.

The anger inside him outweighed the tolerance he had for her.

He disliked being lied to by her, especially when it involved meeting another man behind his back.

Audrey Sutton glanced at her phone seeing no reply from him, assuming he was dining with friends and hadn’t checked his phone in time, thus not giving it much thought, she continued concentrating on the plate in front of her.

Lucian Quinn parked the car and walked into the restaurant, looked around on the first floor but didn’t find anyone, so he headed to the second floor, quickly spotting Audrey Sutton.

He walked straight over but noticed there was a man and a woman at the table, and the man wasn’t Shane Warner: "Sister-in-law, Master Shane hasn’t arrived yet?"

"Lucian? Why are you here?" Audrey Sutton felt somewhat surprised, followed by a guilty conscience.

Lucian Quinn said: "Master Shane saw you eating in this restaurant. I came in after parking the car, and didn’t see him downstairs, where’d he go?"

Audrey Sutton asked: "He saw me eating here?!"

Lucian Quinn nodded: "Yeah, he saw you when he was at the roadside, that’s why Master Shane came to eat here."

Audrey Sutton recalled their earlier conversation, feeling uneasy: "Oh no."

She picked up her phone to call Shane Warner, the call went through, the ringtone kept ringing, but he didn’t answer.

To verify whether he didn’t hear or was purposely not picking up, Audrey Sutton asked Lucian Quinn to call him.

Just after dialing, he answered.

Lucian Quinn wasn’t on speaker, she only heard Lucian say "okay" and then hang up.

Audrey Sutton was now certain Shane Warner deliberately ignored her calls.

"What did he say?" Audrey Sutton hurriedly asked after seeing Lucian hang up.

"Master Shane said he’s going back to the company first, told me to eat something myself."

Audrey Sutton felt like it was over; he was so angry he didn’t even eat.

Simon Sue apologized with a smile: "Sorry, seems I’ve caused you trouble again."

Audrey Sutton grabbed the jacket from the back of the chair, ready to leave in a hurry, "Sorry, I won’t accompany you for a leisurely meal, I need to deal with family matters first."

"Alright, do you need me to help explain?"

Audrey Sutton quickly waved her hand: "No need, it’s a small matter, I’ll handle it myself."

Though saying "small matter", she had no idea how to deal with it.

She was aware of Shane Warner’s temper, in a cold war, nobody could match him.

Audrey Sutton took a taxi directly to his company, most employees were already on year-end holidays, only a few departments were still working overtime, making the office much quieter than usual.

She went straight to his office by elevator, but found the door locked, asked a secretary and learned: "President Warner left work to dine with Vice President Quinn, hasn’t returned yet."

Thinking Shane Warner said on the phone he’d return to the company, Audrey Sutton decided to wait there.

From past one o’clock until after three, the messages she sent him explaining went unanswered, calls remained unpicked, despite it being way past work hours, he was nowhere to be seen.

Could he have gone to Starfield?

Considering this, Audrey Sutton found Faye Xavier’s number in the contacts and asked: "Master Shane didn’t come today, the company basically has all gone on holiday, I’m just tidying up ready to leave."

Audrey Sutton sighed helplessly, thinking this almost-thirty-man has a temper like a young girl.

Not listening, ignoring explanations, even going AWOL.

Audrey Sutton informed the secretary to leave a phone number, saying if Shane Warner arrives, call her.

Then she left the company, hesitated outside for a bit before deciding to go home.

Entering, the house was quiet, General immediately came to the door wagging his tail at her.

Audrey Sutton stood by the door, looking at his neatly placed slippers, knowing he hadn’t returned.

Not giving up, she searched upstairs and downstairs, and confirmed he indeed hadn’t returned.

Where could he go?

Audrey Sutton couldn’t guess.

Thinking he would definitely return home; she decided to wait at home.

A call from her mother came at five urging her to return for dinner. Uncertain if Shane Warner would go as he did a few days ago, Audrey Sutton held onto a sliver of hope and quickly went back to The Suttons. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

As soon as she entered, her mother said: "How come Shaney didn’t come back with you? Isn’t he coming for dinner tonight?"

Audrey Sutton glanced at the clock on the wall, it was almost six, usually, he’d already be here by this time.

"Don’t know, he didn’t tell me." Audrey Sutton replied sullenly while changing shoes.

"Then call him."

Audrey Sutton thought for a moment and said: "You call, my phone ran out of battery."

Hazel Yates merely muttered about Audrey Sutton not keeping her phone charged when going out, then took out her own phone to call Shane Warner.
