Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 154: Wants to Be Her Sister-in-Law?
Although Shane didn’t admit it, he was well aware that ever since meeting Audrey Sutton, her quirky ideas really did change his formerly monotonous life.
After having their fill, Audrey lay back on the sofa, complaining that she was too full to move.
Shane checked the time; it was already close to six, and there wasn’t much time left for rest.
Audrey lay on the sofa playing with her phone, and soon dozed off while playing.
Shane had a morning meeting and had to be at the company by eight.
Audrey’s foot was injured, and he didn’t feel comfortable letting her go to school alone, so he gave her a ride to school on his way to work.
Since there were still one or two hours before Audrey’s class, she went straight to the dormitory.
The dormitory was silent; the few people inside were still sleeping, probably after playing late into the night. Audrey wanted to crawl into her bed for a nap, but then she suddenly received a call from Phoebe King.
"Audrey, are you at school? Where is your E building?"
Audrey backed out of the dorm room and said into the phone, "The E building? It’s right near our dorm. Where are you now?"
"I’m at the gym."
"Wait there, I’ll come to you now."
The distance wasn’t far, but because of her injured foot, it took Audrey five or six minutes to walk over.
When Audrey saw Phoebe, she was wearing a black leather jacket and holding a helmet, standing in front of a motorcycle.
Phoebe quickly ran over to support Audrey, seeing her limp over. "What happened? Did Shane abuse you?"
"As if he’d dare. I fell by accident."
"You should’ve said earlier, I could’ve driven over to get you. Is it serious? If it gets worse, Shane won’t forgive me."
Audrey waved it off, "No worries. What brings you to our school? Transferred?"
Phoebe laughed, "Haha, you’ll be amused. I’m looking for my one-meeting crush. I ran into a handsome guy at the bar last night and found out he’s a teacher at your school, so here I am."
Audrey smiled knowingly and admired Phoebe’s straightforward pursuit of love—unlike herself, who kept her feelings hidden despite having a crush nearby.
However, she worried that Phoebe might be like Flora, with love that came and went quickly.
"Hop on, and guide me there from the back."
Audrey took the helmet from Phoebe, put it on, and hopped onto the motorcycle.
Since her sixth brother Stephen also liked riding these motorcycles for thrills, Audrey was nervous at first on his bike but got used to it over time.
In front of the E building.
The first class of the day had already started, so there weren’t many people outside the building.
Phoebe took off her helmet and looked around, "Seems like I’m late. I’ll have to wait for them to finish class."
"Which teacher are you looking for? Maybe I know them if you tell me the name."
Phoebe: "I don’t know the name, that’s why I’m searching. If I knew, I wouldn’t be wandering around your school like a headless chicken!"
"Then describe him."
Phoebe immediately blushed like a shy girl, her voice softening, "Tall, wears glasses, and looks scholarly."
Audrey: "That’s it?"
Phoebe shook her head, "Can’t describe more specifically."
Audrey: "With that description, there are plenty. Our school has a bunch of new intern teachers, and many wear glasses and look quite scholarly."
Phoebe: "I’ll recognize him when I see him. He’s not young, looks around twenty-seven or twenty-eight."
Audrey: "There are still quite a few like that."
Even though she thought Phoebe was searching for a needle in a haystack, Audrey still accompanied her to a nearby drink shop to wait for the first class to end.
Though she hadn’t interacted much with Phoebe, Audrey found her easygoing nature made her feel no pressure in their company.
Just before the class bell rang, Audrey received a call from her brother, Stephen Sutton.
"My brother called to say he has something for me. He should be back soon. But since the class is ending soon, you can wait outside. Most teachers exit from this side as it’s closer to the office."
Phoebe nodded and was already eagerly scanning her surroundings.
Audrey hurried back to join Phoebe and waited outside Stephen’s classroom just before the class ended.
Most students at school knew Stephen was Audrey’s brother, so no one found it odd seeing them chat in the hallway after class.
"The strawberries in the greenhouse are ripe, Mom said you love them so I brought two boxes for you—they’re in my office," Stephen said.
At the mention, Audrey’s mouth watered, "Then let’s get them first. I have class later."
"Let’s go." Stephen, with one hand carrying books, naturally protected Audrey with his other hand. "Shane called me this morning and mentioned your twisted ankle, telling me to keep an eye on you."
"He tells you all that? You guys keep in touch privately?"
Stephen replied wryly, "Look at how much trouble you cause."
Audrey smiled quietly, thinking that Shane often had a stern face, but his concern for her suggested she might be gradually stepping into his heart.
As they went downstairs, they saw Phoebe outside, looking impatient as most of the crowd had already left.
"Phoebe!" Audrey called out, laughing, "Still haven’t spotted your dream guy? Do you even remember what he looks like?"
Phoebe looked over at once, her eyes locking onto their direction.
Audrey didn’t notice Stephen’s eyes slightly squinting below his glasses and his eyebrows subtly raising.
Recognizing him, Phoebe ran over excitedly, completely dropping any pretense, and her voice became far softer than usual, "I finally found you."
Audrey was taken aback, following Phoebe’s gaze filled with affection to look at her brother and then at Phoebe, a thought dawning on her—could Phoebe want to become her sister-in-law?
"Why did you run off last night? I just wanted to add you on WhatsApp to apologize formally. What could I possibly do to you, a grown man?" Phoebe said to Stephen.
Audrey was puzzled, having no idea what had transpired between the two.
However, Audrey always thought her brother would choose a gentle woman with a similar temper, but now with the bold and outgoing Phoebe, she kind of wanted to see how this story unfolds.
