Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 143: The Child Who Never Grows Up
Sitting in the warm room, Audrey Sutton’s hands and feet slowly warmed up. At first, her hands were stiff when holding chopsticks.
Wearing this tight dress, Audrey Sutton felt uncomfortable even while sitting. However, she kept reminding herself to maintain a lady-like image, which even slowed her eating pace.
Shane Warner observed Audrey Sutton’s unusual attire and behavior, puzzled about what she experienced yesterday to change into such an odd person today.
Suddenly, he recalled that Audrey Sutton arrived around the time Clarissa Morgan left. It’s very likely the two met.
Thinking back, her styling today somewhat resembles Clarissa Morgan’s style...
This seems to explain her unusual behavior today.
Yet, she knew Clarissa Morgan had come to the company looking for him but never asked why, which was unlike her.
"... Did anyone come to see you at the company yesterday?"
As he pondered, Audrey Sutton asked.
Shane Warner couldn’t help but chuckle inside, realizing she remained the same regardless of any outward change.
Knowing what she wanted to ask, Shane Warner pretended to be clueless, saying, "Yes, many."
Audrey Sutton added, "Women?"
Shane Warner: "Quite a few."
Audrey Sutton paused, glanced at him, and started muttering, "I really thought you were super busy at the company all day."
Shane Warner: "If you’re worried, you can come to the company every day and watch over me."
Audrey Sutton: "If a man behaves himself, he behaves on his own. Watching over him might work for a while but not forever. I really can’t be bothered with your trivial matters!"
"The Sterling is hosting a charity jade auction tomorrow night. She invited you and me to attend together."
Audrey Sutton: "That’s none of my business."
"How many times have I told you? Young ladies shouldn’t constantly be speaking crudely."
Audrey Sutton gave a low, cold snort, burying her head and eating in big gulps.
After the meal, Shane Warner was called away by Lucian Quinn. Audrey Sutton cleaned up the table, went to the tea room to make coffee, and overheard several girls in the tea room joking, "Just now, I saw Third Young Master scolding the Third Madam at the elevator entrance."
"Aren’t they always in a good relationship? How could Third Young Master scold the Madam?"
"It’s not really scolding, it’s just that Madam wore a very thin dress today and came over, so Third Young Master got angry and reprimanded her. When I exited the elevator, I saw Third Young Master squat down to lift Madam’s long dress, probably checking if she was wearing socks underneath. That looked quite cute."
"I’m so envious! In front of Third Young Master, Madam forever seems like an immature child. It’s said that only in marriage, when a woman is pampered, she can live eternally like a child."
Upon hearing this, the secret smile on Audrey Sutton’s face quickly faded. Although it was a good thing, she disliked people saying she was like a child, especially since she hadn’t received Shane Warner’s pampering in marriage, right?
A girl noticed Audrey Sutton entering and quickly gave a signal to hush. Hastily greeting with a "Hello, Madam," she promptly left the tea room.
Audrey Sutton brewed two cups of coffee, secretly added half a sugar cube to his coffee.
His desk always left half a space for her, and when she was free, she either worked on homework or rushed art drafts there.
Previously, she always brought her own laptop, always complaining about the heavy package. Later, he specifically equipped her with a computer and drawing pad, installing the software she frequently used.
Audrey Sutton felt he was a practical person, preferring actions that cared for her silently over sweet, talking words. Yet, if he could add a bit of sweet talk, it would be even better.
But now, Audrey Sutton only hoped he wouldn’t scold her a couple of times a day; sweet talk wasn’t something she longed for.
When Shane Warner returned, he saw Audrey Sutton diligently working on her draft and didn’t disturb her, heading straight to his seat.
The pair exchanged a look, neither speaking, as Shane Warner picked up his coffee and took a sip, putting the cup down without expression.
Audrey Sutton, secretly glancing at him, asked, "Didn’t you taste something different?"
While opening his computer, he replied, "Sugar added."
"You can taste that difference? How is it? Isn’t it better with a bit of sugar?"
He didn’t respond, flipping through the file at hand and picked up his pen to write.
Audrey Sutton pouted without saying anything further, continuing with her drawing.
Wearing this dress indeed left her feeling uncomfortable, unable to stretch her feet.
From the waist up, she was a finely dressed girl. Below the desk, her high heels were kicked aside, barefoot — one foot on the carpet, another hooked on the chair leg.
Once engrossed in her creative process, she became very focused, unlike when she did homework, which involved chewing on her pen top and bouncing her legs, often leading to distraction.
"Buzz— buzz—" Shane Warner picked up the phone ringing on the table, directly answering the call.
Audrey Sutton glanced sideways, her ears perked up to listen.
But Shane Warner picked up the phone without saying a word, and she couldn’t clearly hear the urgent tone of the caller’s voice.
"Third Young Master, Clay... he’s dead."
Shane Warner quietly thought for a moment, seemingly unsurprised by such news, "When did this happen?"
"Everything was fine this morning; it was just earlier the doctor checked the room and found he was already..."
"Causes of death?"
"Preliminary judgment suggests poisoning, but the food was provided by our hospital, and other patients haven’t had issues. The cafeteria is under investigation."
"Okay, I understand. Just cooperate with the police investigation."
After hanging up the phone, Audrey Sutton looked curiously at him, "Who died?"
Shane Warner glanced at her, "It’s none of your business, go on drawing your lewd pictures."
Audrey Sutton glanced at the kissing image on her computer screen, immediately blushing and turned the screen to the side, "You’re spying on me?"
"I don’t need to look to know."
Audrey Sutton thought, since they’ve slept together, there’s nothing to hide about painting. Besides, it’s art!
After stroking a couple of lines on her computer, she couldn’t hold back her curiosity, asking him, "Was it the person who committed murder at the funeral who died?"
Before Shane Warner answered, Audrey Sutton added, "Don’t you think someone instructed him?"
"What you could think of, I couldn’t?"
Audrey Sutton leaned closer to him, asking, "Who do you think it is?"
Knowing she must have her own thoughts since she asked, Shane Warner replied with a question instead, "Who do you think it is?"
Putting down her pen, Audrey Sutton looked at him, "Actually, I suspected a person for quite some time, but never dared to tell you."
