Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 158: Her Middle School Days (Part 2)
"Don’t forget to take your medicine."
Sean Hale reminded him, worried, but could only turn and leave the Sterling Family mansion.
Ethan Sterling only drank a bowl of soup before putting down his chopsticks; he never touched the shrimp in the bowl.
Arthur Sterling noticed this, frowned without saying a word, put down his chopsticks, and stood up.
"Come on, let’s go to the study."
The father and son went upstairs to the study one after the other. Arthur Sterling motioned for Ethan to sit on the sofa, closed the door personally, and came over to sit opposite Ethan.
"I’ve heard about your company. Have you... provoked someone?"
"That’s my business. It’s nothing to do with you." Ethan leaned lazily against the back of the sofa, "I’ve come back because I want you to fulfill your promise."
Arthur Sterling’s gaze fell on his left hand.
Ethan’s left hand, resting on the armrest, was bare.
On his ring finger was a faint ring mark; his ring was missing.
Arthur frowned, "What happened with Seraphina?"
"As you requested, I’ve laid everything out to her. We’ll be handling the divorce procedures these days." Ethan shrugged, "If you don’t believe, you can come along with me."
Sensing the tension in his tone, Arthur frowned, stood up, and walked slowly to the window.
"I know you might not believe what I say. In my life, the person I’ve wronged the most is your mother. Even now, I regret what I did to her back then."
Arthur slowly turned around, watching Ethan’s face on the sofa.
"Are you really sure about divorcing Seraphina?"
"What else could it be?" Ethan stood up, his dark eyes meeting Arthur’s, "Isn’t this what you want to see?"
Arthur raised his right hand, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"It’s getting late. You should rest. Tomorrow morning, I’ll take you to the Sterling. Your room hasn’t been touched, it’s still the same. If you need anything, just tell the butler."
Ethan said nothing, stood up, and walked out of the study.
Listening to his footsteps fade away, Arthur picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"How’s the investigation into the car accident going?"
On the phone, there was a voice of a middle-aged man.
"It’s still unclear whose arrangement it is, but it’s certain that this wasn’t an accident. Someone wants the young master dead."
"Keep investigating!" Arthur’s face darkened, "I want to know who wants my son’s life!"
Hanging up the phone, Arthur gazed out into the night with his hands behind his back, let out a long sigh.

Upstairs bedroom.
Henry Sterling pushed open the door, came in carrying a tray, and handed the bird’s nest on the tray to his mother. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Don’t be angry. Have something to eat?"
"Eat?" Lilian York frowned, glancing at her son, "How can you still eat? Do you really not see why Ethan is back now?"
"Alright." Henry smiled and handed the bowl to his mother, "He’s my brother; isn’t it right for him to come back to the Sterling Family?"
"Your brother!" Lilian heavily placed the bowl back on the tray, "He’s just the illegitimate child of that seductress. What right does he have to compare with you? There’s not a penny in this Sterling for him!"
"Mom!" Henry frowned as a reminder, "Keep your voice down."
"Why should I keep my voice down? Where am I wrong?" Lilian snorted coldly, "Back then, it was his own choice to leave the Sterling Family; it’s not me who drove him away, right? Now he wants to come back; what’s he taking the Sterling Family for?"
"It’s Dad who let him come back, what can I do?" Henry moved to sit by his mother’s side, wrapping his arm around her shoulder, "You should eat and drink as you should. I have my ways."
"Ways?" Lilian cast a sidelong glance at him, "You have such a gentle nature; if I were you, I wouldn’t let him step foot in this door."
"The more you act like this, the more Dad will favor him." Henry handed her the bowl of soup with a smile, "If you really don’t want him to take the Sterling’s money away, then treat him better; that’s how you’ll keep Dad’s heart."
"Heart?" Lilian snorted coldly, "Dad’s heart was taken by that seductress long ago. Men are naturally despicable, what they can’t get is the best for them. I’ve long given up on these hopes. The reason I stayed in the Sterling Family, enduring for all these years, is all for you siblings."
Henry laughed, "I know. Rest assured, I won’t let you down."
"Ah—" Lilian sighed deeply, "For so many years, Ethan didn’t return to the Sterling Family. I thought he wouldn’t in the future either; why did he come back this time?"
"His company ran into trouble, Zenith is on the verge of collapse; isn’t it because he has nowhere else to go that he came back?" Henry snorted lightly, "Turns out, I was wrong about him too."
She picked up the bowl of soup, drank two sips, and raised her face again.
"What really happened with Ethan’s car accident before?"
"What else could it be?" Henry shrugged, "He offended someone, didn’t he? You know his temperament."
Lilian gazed seriously at her son for a moment, frowned.
"You’re not involved in this matter, are you?"
"What are you saying!" Henry chuckled lightly, "Surely, you don’t think I did it, right?"
"As long as it’s not you." Lilian reminded sternly, "You can openly compete with him, I’ll help you, but you can’t use illegal means. Mom only has one son; you can’t do anything foolish."
"Don’t worry, I know my limits." Henry assured, supporting his mother’s shoulder, "Eat slowly. I’ll go check on him."
Walking out of Lilian’s bedroom, Henry went up the stairs to the attic.
A few years ago, when Ethan returned, Arthur specifically tidied up a large sunny bedroom for Ethan, but Ethan insisted on living in the attic.
Arthur had no choice but to tidy up the attic.
During the three years Ethan was in high school, he lived here.
Later, when he transferred abroad, the things in this attic remained untouched by Arthur.
Except for the maids occasionally cleaning it, no one else would usually go up there.
Arriving at Ethan’s door, Henry raised his hand and knocked.
After a moment, Ethan, wrapped in a night robe, pulled open the door.
"I came to check on you." Henry smiled as he walked in, glancing around, "I’ve always been curious why you like living in the attic so much?"
"Probably because I grew up living in attics."
Ethan lazily shrugged, glancing around.
The attic before him hadn’t changed much from years ago.
The bookshelf still held his books and scores from back then, and at the corner of the shelf was his old basketball; having been there for so long, the basketball showed signs of deflation.
"It’s different now." Henry turned his face, smiled at him, "You’re a miracle on Vexler Street, the revered LION. Honestly, I never thought you’d return to the country, to this attic."
"I didn’t expect it either, that I would come back." Ethan smirked, "There are some things I originally didn’t want to do, but someone forced me, and I have no choice but to do it!"
Henry’s brow twitched heavily, but quickly regained composure.
"Anyway, big brother is very happy you’ve returned. Alright, I won’t disturb your rest anymore. See you tomorrow."
Henry patted Ethan’s shoulder and turned to leave the attic.
Listening to him walk away, Ethan closed the door and walked to the window side.
He found a loose plank in the attic, and from inside took out a sketchbook.
The sketchbook was rather old, the paper already yellowed, but the drawings remained vividly clear.
On the paper, a girl slightly turned her face, playing the violin, her long hair and dress fluttering in the wind.
It’s a pity Seraphina wasn’t there, otherwise she’d instantly recognize.
The girl in the drawing was her—
Her during middle school years.
