Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 157: Her in Middle School (Part 1)
"Currently, the police are still investigating, and all the company’s assets are still frozen. However, Attorney Clayton has reassured everyone, and they all have great confidence in you. We haven’t done anything wrong, so we’re not afraid of their investigation."
Sean Hale placed the food from the paper bag onto the table and pulled out a chair.
"You should eat something first?"
Ethan Sterling walked over and sat down at the table.
He picked up the chopsticks and then put them back on the table.
"What about Zenith Group?"
"The shares continued to decline today, and there are many rumors circulating within the company. Many people believe that you’re done for and the shareholders are also on edge." Sean Hale shook his head slightly, "I’ve heard that many of them are considering selling their shares."
"Hmph!" Ethan Sterling snorted coldly, "That’s just perfect."
Sean Hale paused, "What do you mean?"
"You arrange for people from the overseas company; if anyone sells Zenith Shares, no matter how many, buy them all up."
"But..." Sean Hale looked worried, "Isn’t that too risky? If Zenith can’t recover, you’ll lose all your money."
To acquire the previous shares, Ethan Sterling had already invested nearly a third of his funds into Zenith Group.
If they continued to buy now, it would be staking everything he owned.
Even in Sean Hale’s view, this approach was too aggressive.
"I know you want to help Miss Thorne save Zenith, but... you can’t leave yourself without any fallback."
"I promised her to help her keep Zenith." Ethan Sterling’s voice was low, yet full of determination, "I can’t break my promise."
"But what if..."
Sean Hale wanted to persuade further, but Ethan Sterling had already raised his right hand.
"Do as I say!"
Knowing Ethan Stering’s temperament, known for not taking ’no’ for an answer, Sean Hale opened his mouth, but the words swallowed back down.
"Fine. I’ll make the call right away."
Sean Hale stood up, walked to a corner of the living room to make the call, while Ethan Sterling raised his right hand, habitually twisting the wedding ring on his left ring finger.
Carefully removing the ring, he lifted his hand to unclasp his neck chain, his mother’s legacy, carefully threading the wedding ring onto it, then putting the necklace back on, tucking both ring and pendant into his collar.
"President Sterling." Sean Hale returned to the table, "I’ve given the instructions according to your orders; from now on, they will fully acquire Zenith’s stocks."
Ethan Sterling nodded, "Prepare yourself; tonight, I’m going back to the Sterling Family."
Sean Hale frowned, "Wouldn’t it be too dangerous for you to go back now?"
Henry Sterling wouldn’t hesitate to use extreme measures to get rid of him.
How could Sean Hale be at ease with Ethan Sterling going back to the Sterling Family now?
"I’m returning to the Sterling Family to force him to take action. Only when Henry loses his temper can we catch him red-handed."
"I understand your intent." Facing away from Ethan, Sean Hale replied helplessly, "Still, at least wait until you’ve recovered before returning, wouldn’t you?"
Having just had a car accident, Ethan Sterling’s injuries hadn’t fully healed.
According to doctor’s instructions, he should be recuperating in the hospital now.
Ethan Sterling frowned, "I can’t wait that long."
As long as Henry hadn’t exposed any weaknesses, he couldn’t be at peace, nor could he explain the truth to Seraphina Thorne.
He could wait, but what about Seraphina?
The thought of the way she had just looked at him made Ethan Sterling wish he could slap himself.
"How about..." Sean Hale cleared his throat softly, suggesting in a low voice, "We tell Miss Thorne the truth?"
"No!" Ethan Sterling immediately dismissed the idea, "I’m warning you, Sean Hale, if you dare tell Seraphina the truth, you had better not show up in front of me again."
Ethan Sterling understood Seraphina Thorne; with her character, she would never agree to let him take the risk alone.
Ethan Sterling would rather she misunderstand and hate him than get her caught in this vortex.
Sean Hale sighed and said nothing more.
As evening fell.
Sean Hale personally drove Ethan Sterling back to the Sterling Family estate.
The Sterling family’s mansion was in the countryside; the entire estate was owned by the family.
After entering through the automated iron gate, it took a few more minutes of driving to reach the lavish European-style building.
When Ethan Sterling walked into the living room, Arthur Sterling was dining with his lawful wife Lilian York and son Henry Sterling.
Upon the butler’s announcement of Ethan’s return, all three people at the table simultaneously put down their chopsticks. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Arthur Sterling lifted his chin slightly, "Let him in and set an extra place."
"Arthur Sterling!" Lilian York said with a frown, "What do you mean by this?"
"Mom!" Henry Sterling stood up and walked over, pressing Lilian York back into her chair, "This is also Ethan’s home; isn’t it right for him to come back?"
"What do you mean by ’right’?" Lilian York snorted coldly, "When he left, didn’t he say ’even if he dies outside, he won’t step back into this house’? If he’s got the guts, then he shouldn’t come back!"
"Enough." Arthur Sterling lightly coughed, "I was the one who asked him to return."
"You asked him to come back?" Lilian York stood up from her chair, "Fine, you’re the head of the family; I can’t control it, but I’m leaving!"
"Mom!"
As Henry attempted further persuasion, Lilian York already tossed her napkin on the table and headed for the dining room exit.
At that moment, Ethan Sterling just walked in.
The two of them met face-to-face at the dining room door.
Glancing at Ethan, Lilian York stopped.
"Ethan Sterling, I remember you once said you’d never set foot in this house again. What’s happened now? Are you struggling outside and just remembered this home?"
"You!"
Sean Hale couldn’t hold back and stepped forward to defend Ethan.
Ethan Sterling raised his right hand, signaling for him to stay quiet.
"I was immature before, and I ask Aunt York not to hold it against me."
"Oh, so it was ’immature’ huh." Lilian York smirked, "I really thought you were noble and had backbone, seems I was wrong about you."
She curled her lips and stepped out of the dining room.
"Ethan!" Henry Sterling walked over quickly, placing his hand on Ethan’s shoulder, "Don’t take it to heart over my mom; she’s like that, a sharp tongue but soft-hearted — come, let’s eat!"
Ethan nodded, walked over, and sat down at the table. A servant had already set a new place for him and brought over a bowl of soup.
Arthur Sterling sat at the table, his gaze fixed on the bandage on Ethan’s head.
"How’s your injury?"
"It’s okay, I won’t die." Ethan said, holding a soup bowl, sipping it idly, "We’ve agreed on the terms before, you won’t go back on your word, right?"
"I won’t go back on anything I’ve promised you." Arthur said, picking up the chopsticks, placing a shrimp into Ethan’s bowl, "Eat first, have a good rest for a few days, then we’ll talk."
"Yes, Ethan." Henry Sterling added with a smile, "Health is important, recover first, work can wait."
"No need, I’m fine." Ethan shrugged, "If I needed rest, I’d stay in the hospital, no point coming back here."
Henry began to speak further, but Arthur had already interjected.
"Let’s eat first. After dinner, let’s discuss it in the study."
Ethan nodded, lifting his gaze to look at Sean Hale.
"You can go now; I’ll call you when I need you."
