Chapter 71: You want the truth?!

Arthur staggered towards the mansion’s door, grumbling in pain. His eyes were completely colourless, and his skin was so dry that it could be easily broken off.

The door burst open as soon as he placed his hand on the handle, pushing him to the floor.

The cold wind blew into the mansion, blowing out the light from the candles.

Arthur grunted as he struggled to stand, looking at Cyrus, who was holding Sage in his arms and glaring him down.

"You are out of bed." Cyrus growled.

"I.. I sense something is wrong." Arthur replied, his voice raspier and he finally stood up, barely.

"You are almost invisible." Cyrus sighed and shook his head. "Return to the room while I go make the antidote." He added and walked passed Arthur who let out a relief sigh.

Cyrus entered the room and gently placed Sage on the bed. He could hear her heartbeat racing, indicating that she was terrified before he rendered her unconscious.

He sat next to her caressing her forehead, pushing the strands of hair on her face to the side. "Everything is fine, you have nothing to be scared of, I am here with you." He whispered soothingly.

Like she could hear him, her heart beat slowly returned to beating it’s normal rate earning a smile from Cyrus.

He sighed, stood up, removed his coat and walked out of the room folding the sleeves of his shirt.

He entered the library walking deep into it, past shelves and book tables, until he arrived at the far end of the library, in front of a door with no handle.

The door was carved with a circle, and within the circle was a snowflake. He raised his hand slowly and placed his palm on the snowflake. His silver eyes blazed brightly, casting a bright glow beneath his palm and onto the snowflake that spread throughout the circle.

The door was pushed open, and Cyrus walked into the room, smirking as the door closed behind him.

The room was cleaner than expected. Due to the lit candles in the small room, the wooden floor glowed. It had a single shelf with ancient-looking books and scrolls, as well as a table and a chair beside it. The cupboards on the walls around the room, as well as the ceiling, had the same carving as the door and in front of the table was a painting covered with a thick black drape.

Cyrus reached for a cupboard, placed his palm on the circle, it glowed and opened. He took out a basket of strange-looking herbs and moved away, his gaze fixed on the herbs as the door closed behind him.

"It has been a while since I made an antidote," he muttered to himself as he walked over to the table and placed the basket on it.

.

Arthur sighed and sat on the bed. He trembled as he looked down at his dried hands and felt his dried face.

He felt alive though a bit weak. His body was almost gone. Was this how he was going to die? He burst out laughing.

"At the very least, I will die knowing that I served him," he muttered to himself.

"You are not going to die in my presence." Cyrus abruptly stated and kicked open the door, completely breaking it.

Cyrus approached Arthur, frowning, and Arthur gasped. "Speaking nonsense? Are you certain you and the parrot are not related?" Cyrus asked angrily, pulling a pale green pearl from his pocket.

"I..." Arthur trailed off, collecting the pearl and stuffing it into his mouth.

Cyrus looked at Arthur nonchalantly, his silver eyes unreadable.

Arthur’s eyes changed into brown reptile-like eyes, and he fell back on the bed, looking dead, before closing his eyes shut.

In that situation, one would scream and burst into tears, but Cyrus shrugged his shoulders, turned away, and said, "We are leaving by morning," before walking out of the room.

She felt a familiar cold touch on her lower lip, caressing it until she shivered.

"Cyrus.." She called out in hushed tones, caught his wrist, and opened her eyes to see Cyrus lying beside her on the bed, staring at her with his unreadable silver reptile-like eyes.

"It’s morning." Cyrus informed and wanted to move away, but she held his wrist with both her hands, forcing him to look at her.

"What happened last night? Why are we suddenly leaving? What’s going on? I felt an energy, there was a blast..." She inquired, eager to comprehend everything.

"Statkus mages." Cyrus said, staring at her blankly.

"What?!" Sage was taken aback.

"Be prepared; you may have to fight your own people." Cyrus jerked his hand away and stood up from the bed, while Sage sat herself down, perplexed.

Cyrus stood in front of the bed, his gaze fixed on his befuddled wife. "They are here for you, and I will not let them take you." He growled menacingly.

Sage inhaled deeply as she rested her hands on her chest. "Why do they want me?" She inquired hesitantly. Did the Statkus mages want her so they could build a strong kingdom for mages alike? This could be an opportunity for her to be with her people in order to find the portal, use the skills and information, and build a powerful empire.

Cyrus narrowed his eyes at her and clenched his fist. "What do want to hear? Reunion?" He asked angrily.

Sage frowned at him, her eyes turned fiery red. "Enough! Do not answer my question with another question!" She hollered at him.

"They want your life force!" Cyrus thundered.

Sage stood up from the bed and walked towards him. "Should I believe everything you say?" She asked furiously.

"Yes."

"Why? Because you are not married to me to take my life force?" Sage asked and scoffed in annoyance. "If only you can listen to yourself Cyrus Dragos,"

Cyrus’ eyes sharpened dangerously immediately she ended her words. "You want the truth?" He suddenly snapped and grabbed her neck.

Sage gasped in shock as she felt her back meet a wall. Looking into Cyrus’ sharpened eyes, she could see nothing but rage.

"Here is the truth!" Cyrus growled through his teeth and she felt his grip tighten around her neck.
