Chapter 115: Patience

A drop of thick liquid landed on her forehead, jolting her out of her slumber. She placed her hand on her forehead and wiped away whatever had fallen on her head, then opened her eyes to find nothing but a completely blacked out sky. It was like looking into an abyss, a vast, dark void.

Her eyes wandered around, seeing dead trees everywhere, and her heart skipped a beat when she decided to look at her hands, only to discover that the liquid she had cleaned from her forehead was blood.

Sage held her breath as she realised she was on the ground near a vast sea of blood.

She stood up and moved away from the stagnant thick liquid red sea, gasping in shock.

"I almost forgot Lianna had broken the spell." Sage muttered to herself.

She didn’t deny that she was relieved she had not been appearing at the land of the sea of blood; she had been sleeping soundly until Lianna decided to break the spell, but the spell Cyrus had cast was temporary, which meant she could not avoid being summoned by whoever was summoning her.

Sage exclaimed in surprise. "Mother!" Then went down to the beach.

"Mother!" She called, hoping for a response.

She had heard two voices the last time she was in the land of the sea of blood. One was from the sea and the other wasn’t, but she was certain that the one from the sea was from her mother.

"Truths... I do not want to know any more truths." Sage murmured and began to take slow steps away. "They are always painful, and they reveal that someone close to me is actually my adversary." She turned away and added slowly.

Suddenly, she heard a large splash from behind her and turned to see a massive wave attempting to swallow her and pull her into the sea.

"What the hell is going on?" Sage exclaimed in surprise, wanting to move her feet but finding them completely stuck to the ground.

"No no, no!" She screamed and tried to move her legs, but it was useless.

Was her mother really in the sea? Why did it appear that the sea had its own mind?

Cyrus had warned her that the sea was capable of killing her, implying that whoever summoned her intended to kill her.

Sage didn’t understand anything at the time; all she wanted was to avoid being swallowed by a large wave of blood.

"Child," A raspy voice called from behind her, and it was very familiar.

She grunted, still attempting to move her feet, but the more she tried, the more she felt immobilised.

She screamed in frustration, and the owner of the voice appeared in front of her, dead eyes staring at her.

It was the mage corpse she had seen on her first visit to the sea of blood.

"The wave will put an end to your misery." Sage frowned deeply as he said this.

"You are changing your words right now." She snarled at him.

"I am not changing my words, child; you simply need to be patient." Slowly, the mage said.

"Patience will lead to me being swept away by the wave." Sage expressed her displeasure.

"But all your struggles are in vain, child; the more you struggle, the worse your problems become. Patience is essential for freedom, peace, and war." The mage laughed as he finished his words.

Sage looked at him, perplexed. "Are you the one who called me here?" She inquired, intrigued.

"No." He replied, clearing his throat.

Sage gasped offended. "Then who are you exactly? What you said last time, about me entering the sea and uncovering the truth i want to know, and how few will be shown to me, and how... others that are too strong will not be showed in other to avoid me being stuck here forever..." She paused and inhaled deeply to control her building anger. "What was it about?" She asked furiously.

"Your heavy heart and curiosity led me to say that, but I am sure you have uncovered a lot and do not want to uncover more for fear of being hurt by the truth you may uncover." Sage looked at the mage with interest as he spoke calmly.

"So, the sea of blood really reveals the truth about one’s life." She shook her head and whispered. "I do not want to take the risk, and I am no longer desperate to know anything."

"Are you afraid of death?" The mage inquired.

Sage smiled. "No," she sighed, looking at the raging waving that was only threatening but doing nothing.

"I do not understand.. my mother.. why hasn’t she revealed herself to me?" Sage stuttered looking back the mage who was fading away once more.

"You can only meet your mother by diving into the sea. She wants to see and talk to you without any barriers." His voice grew faint as his lower body vanished completely.

"But, there is a one hundred percent chance that I will perish if I go into the sea." Sage wondered if there was another way to communicate with her mother.

"Yes, but taking the risk is preferable to doing nothing at all." Sage felt her feet move as he faded completely.

She sighed deeply extending her arm towards the direction he had vanished then ran away from the sea and watched the wave crash back into it, causing it to shake violently.

She couldn’t imagine being snatched by the wave, and was aware that she had to work up the courage to meet her mother.

Sage swallowed hard and closed her eyes, hoping that when she opened them, she would be in Cyrus’ arms.

She exhaled heavily and opened her eyes to see herself standing on the balcony railing in a long white gown, shivering as the cold wind swept around her body.

She screamed in terror, "Cyrus!" and covered her eyes with her hands, not wanting to look down.
