"You say that, like it was some holy, divine miracle," Jackson muttered, a bit embarrassed by his deeds being brought up.

"At that time, when I had so little experience handling the anger of my wolf, it was." Gavin said sincerely. He wished Jackson could understand the gravity of his actions that day. Most would have been torn to shreds until the bloodlust was sated when he was in a state like that. "So, will you officially become my Beta and stand by our side as we grow in numbers, strength and power?" Gavin asked as he held out his hand to Jackson.

Jackson looked between the offered hand, Helena's worried, yet expectant face, and Erza's reassuring smile. He let out a long, drawn-out sigh. "Yeah alright man. I'll be your beta. Only" he said with a pause as he looked into Gavin's eyes levely. "Only until you find a proper beta to stand by your side. Someone strong enough to keep up with your crazy behind," Jackson said as she shook Gavin's offered hand.

Once again, a surge of powerful magic swept through them all. Without asking, they all knew that they were now bonded on a deeper, more intimate level than just an hour prior. The force of the wave of power was electrical as all of them sat back in their seats. The power surged through them, bonding their life forces in a way more connected than family.

Would you like to go over available skills and abilities? Veronica asked Gavin as she read off his physical stats with the recent level-up.

Gavin noticed for the first time, that his stats went up differently depending on how he achieved the level-up. It wasn't the same increase each time. It seemed the instant level ups gave him a higher stat boost when he completed the quest assigned. That was very interesting. It seemed, completing actual level-up quests did better for him than normal battles, training and actual grinding tasks for experience. Good to know. He would make it a priority to complete those quests whenever he received them.

"No, thanks Veronica," Gavin replied. He would go over that information later on when needed.

Erza let out a soft whistle as the magic subsided. It didn't appear that anyone else in the lunchroom felt that surge of magical energy just now. It was something unique that the four of them experienced. "Well, that was a most interesting experience," she said, her voice barely above a whisper as her heart rate slowly came down.

Gavin nodded, "That's no joke," he said as he ran his fingers through his hair. His entire body felt jolted and energized. He was ready for whatever challenges came from their first matches that afternoon. He looked at the clock on the wall and let out a soft curse as he noticed the time. "Hey guys, we got to go to the arena, we're almost late," Gavin said as he pointed out the time was now ten thirty in the morning. Their first match was supposed to start within half an hour.

Erza nodded as she rubbed her stomach slightly. They all stood and took their trash to the bins and left the cafeteria. Helena felt like things had changed for them. Where before, Gavin would walk in front, leading the way to where they were going. Now it was Jackson in the front, with Helena dropping into step right behind him. Erza was next and Gavin took up the rear as they walked through the crowd of students walking around. They didn't plan this in any way, but it seemed the most natural way for them to move out as a group. Strange, she thought as she considered why that might be.

Jackson was excited as they walked towards the towering grand arena building. He would finally get to prove that he wasn't just sitting on his butt over the past many weeks. For the first time, he actually wanted to spar against someone and test his strength and find out where he needed to focus and grow.

He reached down and took Helena's hand into his as they walked. He felt an even stronger connection to her. Both physically and emotionally, as they both accepted roles as betas to Gavin and Erza. This was something special the two of them would share. He had no idea exactly what a Beta would be responsible for, but he could learn on the go.
