Ah, that marriage proposal. How can she tell Madam Shen that Shen Yi had listed down all the pros and cons if she will marry him like he was just presenting a business proposal to a potential client? Lu Xinyi didn’t want to admit that she’d been lured and tricked by her husband because of food.

Technically, she lost in a bet with Shen Yi when she tried to resist his demands. Who would have thought that this guy knew how to play his cards well making her fall right on his trap. Lu Xinyi dipped into her memories and tried to recall what happened during their vacation at the cruise.

No. No. No! She refused to reveal that she was bribed with food and meat. What would Madam Shen think of her? A glutton that married Shen Yi for the unlimited supply of food?

Shen Yi coughed beside her while Lu Xinyi fidgeted uncomfortably, taking a glance on her husband as if trying to seek her help. The traitorous man ignored her silent pleads and looked away.

“It’s not that I married him because of his status.” she started to explain. Her face burned red at the memory of it but she didn’t have the heart to expose her husband’s trickery on his grandmother. “It’s more like he tricked me to marry him.”

Madam Shen stared blankly at the couple. A moment later her lips curled into a smile, her face filled with amusement.

“That’s something he would do.” she laughed, covering her mouth to stop it but failed. “Joking aside, I can see that he fancy you, enough to disregard the repercussion of his actions. But what about you?”

“Me?” Lu Xinyi felt like she was in a hot seat. At least Madam Shen was kind enough to consider her feelings. She had expected her to lash out on her once she found out she was from the Sun family.

“I wonder how deep is your feelings for him.” Madam Shen swirled her drink in her wine glass before giving Lu Xinyi a knowing look. “What if I ask you to divorce him or else I’ll strip off his status and inheritance just like your grandfather did to your mother? Will you still love him if he becomes a penniless man?”

Lu Xinyi felt like someone had kicked her in the stomach. A part of her died as she realized that Shen Yi’s life and future could be compromised because of her. She felt Shen Yi’s hand tightened on hers, reassuring her that whatever happens, he will choose her above the rest. This didn’t sit well to Lu Xinyi.

Truth to be told, she was afraid to answer that question. What if Madam Shen was serious that she will remove Shen Yi from their family because of her? She collected her thoughts and tried to find the right words to express her opinion over the matter.

“Forgive me Madam Shen but I don’t believe you will do such thing to Shen Yi,” she answered, confident that she’d chosen the right answer.

“Oh?” Madam Shen smirked.

The old woman was starting to like this girl. Other women might have forced herself and try to convince Madam Shen that she was worthy to join the Shen family, but this Lu Xinyi… she wasn’t like her mother.

Sun Meixiu was the exact opposite of her daughter. She wasn’t as confident and fiery like Lu Xinyi. Maybe that was the reason while she let her half-sisters bullied her until she was kicked out from the Sun family.

“Why do you think I’m not capable of such things to my grandson?” she asked with a devilish grin while stroking her loose curls. Now, Lu Xinyi knew where did her husband get that mocking grin of his.

“I can say that Shen Yi has high regards of you, Madam Shen. He respected you enough to believe that you will hear out first before passing your judgment about our marriage. Although I should say that even if your family refused to welcome me, I wouldn’t leave his side even if you force me too.”

“What if I’m serious and took everything from him?”

“Money can be earned if you work hard. True love will only come once in a lifetime.” Lu Xinyi rebutted. She remembered those days when her parents were still alive. They were poor but happy. They didn’t need much money, not until that unfortunate event…

She pushed away those thoughts from her mind and glanced on her side, trying to see if her husband will say something to support her. But there were no words came out from his mouth to help her. Shen Yi was busy twirling a lock of her hair between her fingers, not paying attention to their conversation.

“Surely, Madam Shen would like to see her grandsons happy and content in their lives?”

Such a tricky question that the old woman couldn’t deny.

‘Little devil, I see why Yi has fallen for you.’
