“Yuhan, didn’t I tell you to behave well?” The old man warned Xia Yuhan with a cold hoarse voice. Xia Yuhan lowered her head in shame. It was rude of her to cut off the conversation between her elders and point a finger on Madam Shen’s guest.

“Madam Shen, please forgive little Yuhan’s behavior.” Xia Qing had been trying to get the Shen family’s favor for years. If only he could let Xia Yuhan marry one of the young masters of the Shen family, their family status within the capital city will be vastly improved. But his hope was shot down as the young master of the Shen family decline the proposition on marrying Xia Yuhan.

Madam Shen waved a hand, not sparing him a look her eyes landed to her grandson and Lu Xinyi.

“I should be the one who should apologize.” Her attention went back to her guest. “You see, our Yi has already picked a woman of his choice and we respect his decision. If he had mentioned this before we set him up on a date with Miss Xia, this misunderstanding would never happen.”

Xia Qing’s mouth twitched and didn’t say anything but gave her a quick nod. It was clear that the Shen Matriarch had no plans to convince Shen Yi to have a marriage arrangement with his granddaughter.

“No problem, the proposal was confirmed and signed. As long as the Shen family would like to work with us, it’s more than enough.” He stood up from the sofa and was followed by Xia Yuhan who was still blushing from her sudden outburst. “We should go, thank you for having us tonight.”

Shen Yi helped his grandmother to stand up, shook hands with Xia Qing and giving a curt nod to Xia Yuhan. He didn’t want to give Lu Xinyi any idea that he was interested in another woman especially not in her presence.

When Xia Qing and Xia Yuhan left the VIP area, Shen Yi moved and took Lu Xinyi’s hand, leading her to greet his grandmother.

“Grammie, I want you to meet my wife, Lu Xinyi.”

Madam Shen gave her a quick good look from her head to toe.

“Dear, I didn’t think you’ll try to give me a heart attack. Of all the women in the world, why did you pick a woman from that family?” Madam Shen commented, her face void of any emotions that made it hard for Shen Yi and Xue to know what she was thinking.

Her words stung Lu Xinyi. She knew this would never be easy, not when the Sun family’s blood running on her veins. Lu Xinyi kept her face neutral as if she wasn’t offended by the old woman’s words.

Madam Shen smirked at this. Lu Xinyi’s face was already a giveaway of her identity. So much like her mother Sun Meixiu, but there was something different about her. The glint on Lu Xinyi’s eyes didn’t hold the same innocence her mother had.

“Hello, Miss Lu. It brings me great pleasure that you accepted my invitation.” Madam Shen said now standing close in front of Lu Xinyi. The younger woman blinked in confusion, what invitation she was talking about?

“It’s an honor to meet you. I’m Lu Xinyi. Thank you for inviting me.” Lu Xinyi said, a little uncomfortable under the old woman’s gaze.

“Please sit down, Miss Lu. You are my esteemed guest for tonight. This is a special occasion for the whole family. You see, my grandson Yi had never brought a woman for us to meet, so this is new for us.” Madam Shen smiled until her eyes were crescents. “I bet you are aware that your union has some issues we shall talk about.”

“Y-yes, I am.”

Lu Xinyi sat beside her husband on the other sofa while Madam Shen went back to her previous spot. She called for a servant to bring them some wine to drink. Shen Xue bid goodbye, telling them he had to entertain some guests downstairs.

“Are you Sun Meixiu’s daughter?” Madam Shen asked bluntly. Lu Xinyi could tell that Madam Shen knew her identity without revealing how she knew her.

“I am.” Lu Xinyi said simply. Of course, her deceased mother was still the fourth miss of the Sun family, even if her name was removed from the family line, people still considered her as a Sun.

“I am aware of what your relationship to our Yi even before he told us about you.”

A look of surprise flashed across Lu Xinyi’s face. So there wasn’t any way in hell, she could hide something from this old woman.

“Why do you look surprised? I am the matriarch of this family, I should know everything especially if it involves around my grandsons. Tell me, Miss Lu, why did you marry our Yi in a short span of time? Why did you marry him knowing he is a grandson from the family that your maternal family hated the most?”
