Life didn't get easier, even in another world-Chương 409: Going there
Chương 409: Going there
"I don't think the military can afford to proceed with your plan." Sitting on a chair beside the bed, Aaron explained to his brother who despite being forced to rest, showed strong resistance. "We are already struggling with manpower, lacking enough fighters to fight off the monsters and defeat the city, so they can't separate another force to send them with you to that device or whatever else."
"I know that," Kairen, who had won the battle of wills and was allowed to sit on the bed instead of lying down, said with a thoughtful face. "They won't allow me to go there and cause any more trouble when they are in a battle against those monsters. Not just that, they'll try to use me to control those monsters. I've shown them once already what I'm capable of doing, they won't allow me to sit back and relax in such a situation."
A frown found its way to Aaron's face.
"I won't allow them to do anything to you."
"Yeah, sure, but you are only one person."
"Are you doubting my abilities now?"
"No I'm not," Kairen shook his head. "But no matter how strong you are, you can't possibly fight against the whole world."
Even if the commander didn't want to harm Kairen, he wouldn't hold back using the boy. In addition to that, not the whole world could be controlled by SMF's commander's will. Other countries must've found out about Kairen, or at least about someone or something who is capable of manipulating the gates. They wouldn't allow Kairen to slip away so easily. The commander himself couldn't be completely trusted. He might personally not want to hurt Kairen but do it as a part of his responsibilities.
"Plus, the two of us can run away but what about the others? They can easily hold Ariyan hostage to blackmail us. What would you do if that happened?"
The frown on Aaron's face deepened as his gaze sank down.
"And I don't think my power can help us in this situation. These gates' appearance isn't normal, they shouldn't be here, not now, not without a reason. I'm pretty sure someone is behind this and you know who I'm talking about. So, no matter what I do to eliminate those gates, that person will keep adding fuel to the fire, not allowing those gates to be taken down. He might even try to do something more dangerous."
Aaron agreed with him by keeping silent. There was no guarantee what a crazy man would do if they were enraged, bored, or desperate.
"But we can do something."
"What is it?"
Kairen didn't answer immediately. He cast his gaze out the window, to the gates dangling from the gloomy sky and at the buildings visible in the distance.
"We don't really need anyone's help, so let's just sneak out and head to that temple."
"...."
Aaron blinked a few times before shooting Kairen a smile.
"Yes, right, how brilliant- NO!!!"
"Why not?"
"Why would we do such a thing?"
"Why not??????"
The man huffed out a heated breath.
"We don't even know what'll happen after you activate that damned machine or whatever else it's called, and you want just the two of us to go there? And even if we succeed, we'll be in great trouble after everything ends!"
"We can explain the whole story to the others once we are done. I'm sure no one will punish us for saving a world? Plus, I know what will happen if I activate that machine," Kairen rolled his eyes and looked away from his brother. "T-to some extent."
"You aren't even sure!"
"Mhm..." Kairen lowered his head, lips slightly pursed, "You just don't trust me enough." He paused before resuming in a low, quivering voice, "No one here does."
That's why they won't allow him to do the thing he wants. They are rather happy that Kairen can't move around too much, is confined within the walls of a tiny hospital room, fighting against an unknown ailment, is unconscious most of the time, and has a bad state of mind due to unknown reasons. Because no one truly trusts him around here. Why would they? The only special thing about Kairen was his power, which Kairen had no rule in gaining.
"...Ah?"
Aaron was left agape at the sudden solemn atmosphere. He carefully inspected his brother who had switched moods in an instant and moved his chair closer to the bed.
"What kind of bullshit is that? Of course, I trust you, and so do a lot of other people. You know it's not because of a matter of trust that they won't allow you to go near that machine. It's just too risky, you know. They don't have enough power to protect this place, and that's why they are scared of making any new moves. But I trust you, okay? Hey, are you crying?"
"No."
A faint smile etched on Aaron's face as he looked at the boy's moist eyes.
"Sigh... Why are you like this? I didn't even say anything bad!"
He was right. Aaron didn't criticize or say anything bad to Kairen to make him sad. It was just his brother who had become over-sensitive.
"Mhm..."
"Don't you want to say anything to me?"
New n𝙤vel chapters are published on novelbuddy.cσ๓.
"Like what?"
"About the things that are bothering you."
Kairen diverted his gaze while rubbing his eyes.
"There is nothing bothering me."
"Ren..."
"I'm telling the truth."
He too was wondering why he was so upset all of a sudden.
"I really am telling the truth," This time, he was referring to something else. "We should go there as soon as possible, or we won't be able to stop anything."
Kairen still remembered Roy's explanation about Samuel's plan, despite them not being complete, he could guess the whole thing using the knowledge he gained from his past life.
"I'll think about it."
"There isn't much time-"
Pow
Kairen was pushed to the bed, and his feeble body moved according to the push with no resistance.
"Ah?"
"I'll be back in a few hours. Rest until then."
"Ron!"
His brother left the room without any further response.
"...."
Lips pursed and cheeks flushed red, Kairen stared at the door with teary eyes for a while, before burying his head in the pillow and sniffling for no reason.
. . . . .
Just as he said, Aaron was back after a few hours, however, he wasn't alone. Kairen could see Serria and Reyan standing behind the door, conversing with Claire in a serious manner.
'What are they doing here...'
And in front of him sat a man, just beside Aaron.
"Brat, are you really sure about this?"
The golden-haired man said with his arms crossed and brows raised up.
"I've already been there and seen that device I'm pretty sure it's more dangerous than-"
"The device, that machine, in itself, doesn't pose any dangers." Kairen cut the man's words midway through.
"And how do you know about that?"
"..." Kairen thought for a little while before muttering an answer under his breath. "I know because I am the one who built it."
"...Huh?"
However, his answer sounded more bizarre and unacceptable compared to his prior sentence.
"Well, that doesn't matter now, does it?"
Aaron interrupted the conversation between the two.
"We aren't sure of anything and don't know what exactly will happen next, but we are going there tonight. Will you tag along or not?"
