"This is an emergency! All inner disciples and above are to respond to the crisis at hand. There is a beast tide attacking the sect along with a few evil cultivators! I repeat, this is an emergency, everyone prepare yourselves for a fight!"

With shouting and a bunch of disciples flying to face the threat, Kieran stood there shocked before he began to fly to the explosion as well.

"Man, I didn't even get to practice with my sword. I guess a trial by fire will do me some good, though I don't really know what I can do to help. Everyone else is at a minimum a Nascent realm cultivator and I'm a bitch boy at foundation establishment, I should have broken through instead of fucking off. Oh well, nothing that can be done now."

Grumbling to himself, Kieran arrived at where all of the other disciples and elders had gathered. The giant walls protecting the sect now suddenly sported a massive hole in it and beasts were pouring through.

None of the beasts were particularly strong, but they were incredibly numerous.

"Damn. All of these beasts are about my cultivation level...How am I supposed to do anything here? And if there are evil cultivators somewhere then logically they should be behind this whole thing. If they are, then sending these weak beasts is either a distraction for something else, or they're only here so that they can wear us down before a main assault."

Kieran frowned and briefly pondered just returning to his room before he had a thought.

'Wait a second, if my Matter Over Mind skill activates shouldn't I have an easy time killing these beasts? None of the beasts are either smart enough or strong enough to have special skills it appears so I should be fine...Hmmm...Let's give it a shot.'

Hopping down from the wall Kieran entered the fray of beasts and inner disciples. A few inner disciples stood beside him to protect him and spoke up.

"Senior brother, why are you here? Men shouldn't be on the front lines, let us women take care of this and go back. I'm sure you could play a role as a healer if you really want to help, and besides you're too weak to do anything!"

Kieran smiled at the girl who was just worried for him, but he ultimately said nothing and pushed past the protections she and a few others tried to put up for him.

While confused, the girls didn't really object and decided to keep fighting beside him.

Kieran raised his blade and held it out before him as a beast suddenly rushed him.

Just before the claws could tear through his throat however, he suddenly shifted his head slightly and dodged it completely before delivering a savage swipe of his blade completely splitting the beast in half.

Kieran smiled as his skill made the entire thing as effortless as breathing. Before Kieran could celebrate however, he suddenly received a system prompt.

Kieran sat there stunned, but he didn't have a lot of time to ponder about it as another beast decided to feed him EP and break him from his stupor.

Kieran couldn't believe it, he was getting paid to do nearly nothing! His skill was doing all of his work for him and he was making buku bucks!

Kieran redoubled his efforts and pushed himself further and further into the tide of beasts and was greatly pleased with the notifications popping up on his screen.

Kieran's body was moving erratically and he was slicing through beasts like a meat grinder, almost looking more like moving red orb, pushing through the beast tide due to the mist of blood and guts completely engulfing his surroundings.

Anything that came within reach of his blade, whether from his side, in front or behind him became one with the blood mist.

Eventually Kieran stopped worrying about the notifications and got to thinking about something else. Since his body was reacting on its own, he decided to browse the shop and find something he could spend his newfound wealth on.

"Hmm let's see here. I have a lot of things...what could I get that would immediately power me up?"

Kieran began looking through lists and lists of active skills before he decided to move on to a different section.

While active skills would be nice, he kind of enjoyed the aspect of fighting without trying, so keeping with this theme, shouldn't he be more inclined for passive skills that work well with either a sword or his Matter Over Mind skill?

Thinking along these lines, Kieran began to pour over the list of passive skills that ranged from being as simple and passive as gaining Qi when he defeats an enemy, to as convoluted and active as activating a flame-like aura that gets hotter the longer it's active for.

And then, Kieran saw it. He knew instantly that this was the one he wanted and bought the skill without even bothering to continue through the list.
