Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 111: If Nothing Goes Wrong, It Should Be an Accident
Vireness's words fell, and everyone in Investigation Team 5 furrowed their brows.
Augustus was no exception; just now Vireness had not informed him about this.
Luo An flipped through the information in his hands and after pondering for a few seconds, raised his head and asked:
Updat𝓮d from frёewebnoѵēl.com.
"Chief, does this Ivande-Davis have any relation with our FBI?"
Vireness shook her head: "As far as I know, no."
Beside her, Mona, with a somewhat unnatural expression, asked:
"Then does this Ivande-Davis have any family relationship with any official in Washington?"
"There's nothing in the information to indicate that."
Vireness understood the implication in Mona's words, shook her head again and said with a serious face:
"Everyone, this is just a routine task.
We just need to investigate the unexpected car accident Ivande-Davis experienced last night and affirm that it was indeed an accident, understood?"
All the agents of Investigation Team 5 nodded in unison:
"Understood!"
Vireness tilted her head towards Augustus:
"I'll leave it to you now."
"No problem, Chief."
Seeing Augustus's grave response, Vireness nodded in satisfaction, glanced at Luo An, then turned and left the office area of Investigation Team 5.
"Alright, everyone, this case doesn't seem complicated..."
After Vireness completely left the office of Investigation Team 5, Augustus casually tossed the folder in his hands and was just about to plan the next steps when Luo An and Reesi suddenly raised their hands to indicate they had something to say.
"What is it?"
Augustus raised his eyebrows:
"Have you two already found a clue so quickly?"
"It's indeed a clue, but not related to this case."
Luo An smiled and directed his gaze towards Reesi.
Without wasting words, Reesi picked up the laptop on her desk and briefly explained to Augustus her latest encounter with Ogden.
"You're in luck, Reesi."
After hearing Reesi's description, Augustus was initially stunned, then grinned:
"Did you take the chance last night to buy a few Powerball tickets?"
"I've decided to go buy them later."
Reesi shrugged her shoulders and then asked:
"What to do with Ogden next?"
"Of course, bring him back immediately!"
An Ogden's bounty was a whopping 400,000 US Dollars – who would think that's too much money.
After pondering for a moment, Augustus patted Lade's shoulder and then turned his head to Reesi saying:
"You two go together, be careful, and make sure to stay safe."
"Yes, Chief."
They nodded in agreement.
"Luo An."
Seeing Lade and Reesi heading to the equipment room, Augustus turned back to speak to Luo An:
"The case checking if the car accident was an accident, I'll leave it to you and Mona."
"No problem."
Luo An nodded in agreement, then...
sighed.
It wasn't that Luo An wanted to go catch Ogden as well; he had discovered the clue about Ogden, and if that guy was caught, he would also get a share of the money.
Luo An sighed because of the car accident.
Upon seeing this car accident case, Luo An had a hunch:
If nothing else, this accident probably wasn't just an accident.
—
At the home of the deceased Ivande-Davis.
"The NYPD told me that Ivande must have been driving last night when he swerved to avoid an animal that suddenly darted out, causing him to crash into a large tree beside the road."
In the living room, Ivande's wife Tan Niya, her eyes red, sobbed and said:
"I had already prepared a late-night snack and was waiting for him at home, but I never expected…"
Last night's car accident occurred on the outskirts of New York in a small wooded area. Ivande crashed his car into a large tree by the roadside. The front of the car was lifted, and the driver sustained head injuries and died on the spot.
"I'm sorry."
Sitting next to Tan Niya, Mona took out a tissue and handed it to her, while Luo An, with Tan Niya's permission, entered Ivande's study.
After comforting Tan Niya for a while and seeing that her emotions had stabilized, Mona gently asked:
"Tan Niya, what did Ivande do for work? Was it related to the government?"
"Ivande was a photojournalist."
Tan Niya took a tissue to wipe the tears from her face and murmured:
"We had only been married for a year, and he rarely talked to me about his work…"
The details given by Tan Niya were mostly consistent with the information previously gathered by investigation team number five.
After pondering for a few seconds, Mona continued in a low voice:
"Did Ivande ever have any conflicts with anyone? Or did he ever mention to you if someone intended to harm him?"
"Ivande had a good temperament and never lost his temper, which is exactly why I married him."
Tan Niya shook her head repeatedly:
"Ivande got along well with his colleagues; I've met every one of them, and none of them seemed to have any grudge against Ivande…"
Mona frowned slightly and proceeded to ask:
"Do you know what Ivande's recent work involved?"
When Mona learned that Ivande's profession was a photojournalist, she speculated:
Perhaps Ivande captured something he shouldn't have, and then he was silenced.
"As I said earlier, Ivande rarely talked to me about his work. He only went on a business trip recently, and it lasted less than a week…"
As Tan Niya spoke, her expression suddenly changed, and she realized:
"Wait, why are you FBI asking these questions? Why are you investigating this car accident?"
Seeing Tan Niya anxiously grabbing Mona's shoulder and not letting go, Luo An, who had just come out of the study, explained softly:
"Please calm down, Mrs. Davis. These are just routine inquiries, okay?"
"…OK."
Upon hearing this, Tan Niya fell silent for a moment, then slowly nodded and released her hand.
After asking a few more questions, Luo An handed his business card to her, indicating that she could call him if she remembered anything later.
Then, Luo An and Mona left Ivande's house.
"From what we gathered from Tan Niya, this indeed seems like an ordinary accidental car crash."
Back in the SUV's passenger seat, Mona picked up her notebook and tapped away, asking:
"What about you, Luo An? Did you find anything just now?"
"There wasn't much useful information in the study; the laptop was always carried around by Ivande."
Sitting in the driver's seat, Luo An started the car and shook his head:
"However, Tan Niya mentioned that Ivande recently went on a business trip. I think we should check the address and details of that trip."
"I'm already on it."
Mona pointed to the laptop in her hand to indicate she was working on it.
Pulling out his phone to check, Luo An raised an eyebrow and then said:
"I just received two pieces of news: Ivande's car involved in the accident is being moved to the Jacob Federation Building, but Ivande's body is still at NYPD.
So next, we'll head to NYPD to examine Ivande's body, then take his laptop with us, and go to the Jacob Federation Building to check the car."
"No problem."
Mona tossed Luo An an OK gesture, her fingers flying across the keyboard. Seeing this, Luo An immediately pressed the gas pedal, and the dark SUV sped toward NYPD.
—
"The cause of this gentleman's death is very simple."
Inside NYPD's autopsy room, the white old forensic doctor spread his hands after learning the purpose of Luo An and Mona's visit:
"The accident caused severe injuries to his head and chest, eventually leading to death."
Luo An rested his chin on his hand, pondering for a few seconds, then tilted his head and asked:
"What about the blood tests? Did you find anything?"
The old forensic doctor smiled and snapped his fingers:
"Good question!"
