Petal stared at Jacob who didn’t answer her question. She could tell that he was angry at something. She knew him too well, But why did he become angry suddenly?.
Not far away from her, Ethan stood there waiting to see the look of hatred that will appear in her eyes once she hear the truth, He had fooled himself with hopes that they might have a future together, How stupid he was.
Alice held onto her brother’s hand tightly, Issac squeezed his sister’s hand gently as he watched, waiting to see what would happen.
"She needs to know." Lana spoke to Jacob who nodded his head.
Petal frowned hearing this, What is it that she needs to know?.
She turned around to see Ethan, Alice, and Issac standing not far away from her. They had grave expressions on their faces as if something bad had happened.
Suddenly the realization hit her and she turned to look at Jacob, No, It can’t be, Her mother had promised her, She promised her that she will be with her When everything is done.
"Where’s Mom? Is she waiting for me at your place? Let’s hurry and go to her." Petal said signaling, Her body was shaking with fear, Her eyes looking at him demanding answers, One that it will not destroy the hope that she kept living for all these months.
Jacob turned to look at Ethan with cold eyes. Though he wasn’t the one who killed Olivia, But he had caused her death by attacking the house that day, His eyes moved back to look at PetaI when he felt her tug on his sleeves.
"Your mother is dead Petal, Your father killed her when he found out that she helped you to escape," Jacob revealed the devastating news and watched how her eyes turned hollow.
Petal’s world froze around her as if the earth stopped moving in circles, As her soul left her body, as the world lost its colors and its meaning with it.
Her mother was dead all this time and no one told, Everyone knew except her. How could they? how could they be so cruel?.
Tears gathered in Petal’s eyes but the tears refused to come out. She was hurt and broken. Deeply, She had no purpose in life right now, Closing her eyes, PetaI let the realization sink her mind.
They smiled and laughed in her face as nothing had happened, Just how cold do they do that?
How could a person be this kind and curl at the time?
"I’m sorry, I couldn’t protect her, When I arrived there, It was already too light." Jacob continued telling her what happened believing that it was her right to know, Though it was too late for it.
Finally, silent tears rolled down from her eyes, Somewhere in her heart, she had felt it, But she chose to ignore it.
"Take me to her." PetaI demanded signaling as she looked up at him, Her eyes full of tears,
She didn’t wait for him to answer as she made her way towards the exit of the mansion.
Jacob looked at every one of the family seeing the sad look on their faces as if they lost something dear to them and they had lost it. He felt that he had destroyed the peace that Petal was starting to live with this family, But she needed to know, It is her right.
"Take care of her." Lana said.
Nodding his head, Jacob looked at Ethan one last time before he left the mansion following Petal.
Without saying anything, Ethan started to walk towards the exit of the mansion.
"Ethan, Wait." Alice called him, But he continued walking.
"Give him some time, Alice, He needs it." Issac said as he parted her head.
...
Inside the car, Petal sat there silently crying, Mourning her mother, The only person who loved her unconditionally and regardless. Now what? Petal asked herself.
Fear took over her, She has no one now. She closed her eyes and let the tears roll down from her eyes.
"I’m sorry." She heard Jacob say but she was too tired to look at him.
When they reached the cemetery, Jacob was the first to get out of the car before Petal.
With shaking hands, Petal opened the car door and stepped out of it, Jacob walked towards her and offered her his hand which she took and let him guide her towards her mother’s grave, With heavy steps, she followed him.
Petal never thought that a day will come and she will visit her mother in a place like this, Where there was only the name and remaining of her, But her kind soul was no longer in here, Her mother used to tell her that good soul go heaven, That means that her mother soul is in heaven right now, Away from her.
Jacob stopped in front of one of the graves before he stepped back giving her some privacy.
Petal’s eyes fall on the words that were written on the gravestone.
Olivia Wilson, A good woman, and a loving mother.
Lowering herself, PetaI ran her hand over the words that were written on the gravestone as her tears rolled down of her eyes like a flowing river. At that moment she wished that she could speak, She had so many things she wanted to say to her.
She wanted her to see her, To see what she had accomplished in the musical school and what she was about to do. Her mother always told her that she is special. Her words are what made her what she is right now.
"I miss you, Mom." Petal said signaling was the only way she could communicate with her.
Her mother was the one who taught her this language When she was eight years old. At first, PetaI had a hard time learning it. As a child, PetaI had a hard time accepting the fact that she wasn’t normal, That she can’t hear or speak, But her mother was very patient.
She slowly taught her everything: how to write, read, and how to use the ASL language. She taught her how to deepen herself and that even with her disability she can be or do anything.
Looking at the grave next to her mother’s grave, She felt nothing but hatred. It was her father’s grave. This man shouldn’t be even buried here, Next to her mother.
Standard on her feet, She turned to look at Jacob.
"Have him removed from here and put him in another grave, He doesn’t deserve to be close to her." She said signaling.
Nodding his head, Jacob moved close to her and Carefully pulled her into his arms, Petal warped her arms around him tightly. Right now, Having someone close to her was what she needed the most.
Petal buried her face in his chest, sobbing silently.
...
Flashback
"Come here." Olivia signaling to her eighth year’s old daughter to come close to her.
Young Petal refused and stayed in her place. Her mother wanted to force her to do these difficult things that she didn’t understand, and she hated doing them.
Olivia walked towards her daughter and lowered herself to her level, Cupping her face. She kissed her forehead, Olivia turned to the maid and asked her to bring the books and drawings for the signing language alphabet.
The young girl draws herself closer to her mother’s warm embrace, Taking in her mother’s calming scent.
The maid quickly brought everything and Olivia took them from her. Sitting on the floor, Olivia pulled her daughter to sit in her lap and brought the drawings in front of them. Taking PetaI’s hand she bent her fingers and let her thumb up against her closed fingers.
Petal looked at her hand and then at the drawing. She was doing just like the drawing. Looking at the next photo, She tried to do the same and showed it to her mother.
Olivia smiled at Petals and kissed her cheek. Pointing at the next picture, She pointed at it asking for PetaI to do the same as in the picture and she did.
End of the flashback.
...
Petal wiped the tears on her face and looked ahead of her.
"Do you want to go back with me?" She heard Jacob ask.
They were in the car right now, The rain had started to pour heavily, Jacob had taken them to the car so they wouldn’t be drenched in the rain.
Turning to look at him, Petal nodded her head, She can’t go back now to the mansion, Not when she is in this state, Not when she didn’t put her revenge cards in order, Her father had killed her mother but that was because of that man, If he didn’t attack the mansion that day, Her mother wouldn’t have to make her Escaped from there.
When they arrived at Jacob’s apartment, He showed her the room that he had prepared for her when he bought this apartment.
"I tried to bring anything you might need." Jacob said, looking around the room.
Walking towards the bed, Petal sat down, Feeling exhausted.
"It’s good." She said signaling. Right she wasn’t in the mind to think about such things.
