Chapter 481: Chapter 481: Let’s Break Up

"Sister, I’m hungry," Peach said, putting down her watercolor pens and looking at Sheila Yardley.

Sheila noticed it was getting late, only about ten minutes until the end of the workday, so she said goodbye to her colleagues in advance.

The colleagues thought Peach was her niece or something, and since Peach was particularly adorable, everyone offered her their stash of little snacks as they left.

Caleb Grant had taught her well; when she saw strangers offering food, Peach didn’t immediately reach for it. Instead, she looked up at Sheila, and only when Sheila nodded did she extend her little hand to accept it, politely thanking them.

Hearing her colleagues praise the child’s manners, Sheila felt a sense of pride.

As they left the office, Sheila stood at the company entrance, hesitating over where to take the child for dinner, so she asked for her opinion, "What do you want to eat, Peach?"

"Meat."

Hearing the child decisively ask for meat, Sheila couldn’t help but laugh and asked her, "Doesn’t Daddy let you eat meat at home?"

Peach shook her head and said very seriously to Sheila, "I want to eat the spicy kind; Daddy won’t let me."

"Then Auntie will sneak you some, but you can’t tell Daddy when we get back."

Peach smiled happily and nodded emphatically.

Sheila walked to the roadside and saw a taxi displaying "Vacant" approaching from afar. She was about to hail it when a black sedan pulled up in front of her.

The window rolled down, and when Sheila saw Isaac Sheffield, she was a bit surprised because she hadn’t arranged to have lunch with him, nor did he call to say he was picking her up.

Perhaps he was just passing by and ran into them by chance.

Isaac looked at Peach standing beside Sheila with some curiosity, but he already had a guess in his heart.

"Get in the car first," he said.

Sheila hesitated for a moment, then opened the rear door and got in.

Isaac started the car and asked, "Where are you headed?"

Sheila replied, "That barbecue place on the pedestrian street."

"The one we went to last time?"

"Yes."

Isaac nodded and gently turned the car towards their destination.

The car was quiet for a while. Peach observed Isaac as if she wanted to ask Sheila something, and Isaac seemed to have something to say as well.

Sheila didn’t want to explain anything in front of the child because Peach herself didn’t know that she was Sheila’s daughter.

Isaac spoke, but it didn’t make Sheila uncomfortable. He only said, "The company has been pretty busy lately, I’ve neglected you."

Sheila just shook her head and said it was fine, but in her heart, she was tired of such explanations from him. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

When it came to words, he was indeed a man with high EQ.

At first, Sheila thought he might genuinely be overwhelmed, but later she found that most of the time, he only talked the talk.

Since the restaurant was on the pedestrian street, cars couldn’t go in, so they had to walk a short distance.

When they got out, he took the initiative to carry the child, showing no sign of annoyance and even seemed to like Peach very much.

In the beginning, Peach was a bit shy, but seeing Sheila also followed along, she wasn’t as defensive towards Isaac.

Being held in Isaac’s arms, Peach softly asked Sheila, "Sister, who is this uncle?"

Hearing this address, Isaac couldn’t help but joke, "Call me big brother."

Peach scrutinized him for a couple of seconds, clearly feeling she didn’t make a mistake.

Sheila quietly explained, "He’s my good friend."

Isaac’s smile froze, but thinking that perhaps Sheila spoke this way due to some scruples in front of the child, he was very understanding and didn’t correct or delve further into the topic.

Inside the restaurant, there was a wall made into a large aquarium, which fascinated Peach, making her unable to move from the front.

The table wasn’t far from the aquarium, just within sight, so Sheila didn’t call Peach over.

While sitting alone at the table with Isaac, he finally asked, "Is she your daughter? She resembles you a lot, and she’s especially adorable."

There was clear fondness for Peach in Isaac’s tone as he asked.

"Do you still keep in touch with him?"

Sheila looked down, sighed, and said, "After all, she’s my own child."

"I meant the child’s father."

Sheila answered frankly, "Being tied by a child, contact is inevitable."

Isaac pondered for a moment, then asked, "Is her father married?"

Sheila simply said, "I don’t know."

This response indicated that she was focused solely on her child, not concerned with the child’s father.

After some thought, Isaac asked her, "Have you given any more thought to marriage? My mom checked the dates and says there are several good ones next month; she hopes we can decide soon."

Sheila hesitated, still unsure of how to express her inner thoughts to him.

She felt that she might be acting a bit recklessly, especially since she and Isaac had already reached the point of discussing marriage, and he had truly shown sincerity. Yet, she really didn’t want to spend the rest of her life like this.

Seeing Sheila not respond, Isaac glanced at the child not far away, and with some apprehension, he asked, "Is there something you can’t let go of?"

Sheila gripped her teacup tightly, took a deep breath, and decided, "...Let’s break up."

Isaac was stunned, "What happened?"

He didn’t dare to ask much because he didn’t know if Caleb Grant had told her what happened that day at the hotel.

He had thought that since everything had been peaceful for so long, she probably didn’t know about it.

But he didn’t understand why she suddenly wanted to break up when he was preparing for marriage.

"Is it because I’ve neglected you recently, making you angry? You know, last time your brother-in-law and I discussed a project collaboration, and I’ve been busy with that. Once this project is completed, my company will have better development. I’m also working hard for our future marriage, so you won’t suffer any grievances," Isaac anxiously explained.

"When I was alone, I thought getting by was enough. But now, thinking about marrying you and wanting to take care of you for a lifetime, the burden on my shoulders feels heavier, making me strive to give you the best life. But indeed, I lacked consideration and focused on work, neglecting you."

Sheila: "I’ve been thinking seriously these days. I feel that we’re not quite suitable. We both have our own lives, and it seems like we can’t fit each other in. Even if we were to marry, it would feel like we’re just two people co-renting life together, without much meaning."

Isaac frowned, "How can you think that way, Elaine?"
