Chapter 288: Confusion, Desperate

Newton was feeling restless as he sat in the study, waiting for someone.

It has already been a day since he got the report that Bob had returned from Brenton City. Unfortunately, he did not come by himself, instead, he was brought back to the capital, and dumped at the entrance of his house.

This was something that was shocking, and nobody had expected it. This had caused quite some waves within the capital, as Bob was quite well known.

Currently, despite the conflict between the silent order syndicate and the blood reapers syndicate, it had not yet reached the extent where they would attack someone as important as Bob.

Because of the top echelons of the top forces understood the importance of Bob within the silent order syndicate. With the old master of the Santos family retiring soon, Newton would take over as the boss of the silent order syndicate.

And at that time, Bob would be the second in command of this huge force. While it was true that he would not be the next leader after Newton, but even then, he would hold a surmountable amount of power as compared to some members of the Santos family.

So, for him to end up being thrown at the entrance of his own house, unconscious, with a leg broken, it was shocking.

This raised questions, and many people wondered, could it be that the conflict between the two syndicates had already escalated?

Of course, when Newton got this news, he was infuriated. He was the only one in the know that he had sent Bob to the Eastern province. He was trying to make sure that nobody would know about Bob heading there.

And more than that, he was trying as much as possible to make sure that the old man did not know about this either. After all, if the old man knew about it, he would be suspicious.

The issue about Michael’s existence was something that he would not allow the old man to know about. So, he was infuriated by the fact that such a scene was caused.

Now, the old man would definitely question him. Even though he had not yet been contacted by his father, Newton understood that his father was waiting.

After dealing with what had caused Bob to suffer like that, it would be the time that Newton would have to deal with the old man’s questioning.

So, after Bob was taken to the hospital, Newton went over to see him. Unfortunately, he was still unconscious, and the doctors could not tell when exactly he would wake up.

In the end, due to a lot of work at hand, Newton had no choice but to go back to deal with it. So, he was basically waiting for a report from one of the men that he had entrusted the safety of Bob to.

After a long yawn, Newton rubbed his temples, feeling both tired and a slight headache.

With the pressure from the blood Reapers syndicate, and now the issue with Bob, on the other hand with Henry still investigating, Newton was caught in a dilemma.

He wasn’t really sure on how he was going to resolve all of these issues. Each issue needed to be handled well, or it could lead severe consequences.

Just as he was still thinking about this, there was a knock at the door. This left him slightly puzzled, as he wondered, who could it be that was knocking?

Apart from Bob, there was literally nobody else that was used to coming to visit him in the study. And at the moment, with Bob in the hospital, it was no wonder that Newton was puzzled.

"Come in." Despite not knowing who it was, Newton still called for the person to come in.

And as the door opened, Newton abruptly stood up, before he rushed towards the door.

The person coming in was none other than Bob, which was a surprise to Newton. Was this guy not unconscious? How come he was here?

Even though he was currently sitting on a wheelchair, with his leg that had been broken currently in a plaster, he had come.

This made Bob realize that something big had happened during the time that Bob was out. Could it be that he was attacked by someone from the blood reapers syndicate?

It was only due to the lack of evidence that Newton had not acted until now. Otherwise, if he was sure that it was the blood reapers syndicate that had attacked Bob, Newton would have made sure that they gave a good explanation for what they had done.

"Why did you come? You should have stayed in the hospital, so that they can check on your health." Newton said as he stood in front of Bob.

He had been with Bob for many years, and the relationship between the two of them was very close, almost like that of brothers. Even though Bob was not one to talk too much, at least, Newton understood him.

For that reason, he respected this guy so much, the one who had been with him all this while, and did everything that he was instructed without complaining.

Currently, within the entire silent order syndicate, apart from Newton, Bob was the only other person who was just as busy.

"Boss, I have to report about this. It is urgent, which is why I decided to come over as soon as I woke up." Bob shook his head as he went straight to the point.

Even though Newton was conflicted, he decided to listen to what Bob had to say first. At least, he had to understand what was going on.

And after that, he could send Bob back to the hospital, so that his condition could be stabilized. That was especially considering that he had been unconscious for quite a while now.

"Okay, come in. But, try to be as fast as possible, in informing me what it is that is disturbing you. And after that, you will still need to go back to the hospital." Newton nodded as he walked back into the study.

There was another guy behind the wheelchair, who pushed it into the study. Immediately after, he turned around and left, closing the door behind him.

With just the two of them inside the study, Bob finally began speaking.

"Just like how you previously instructed, I went together with Gregory to Brenton City. We were able to get to Michael’s residence, but everything that happened after we entered, it is completely blank.

I suspect that there is a method that was used to alter my memory, or even delete part of my memories." Bob immediately spoke, fear visible in his eyes as he spoke.

Even he himself was not sure about the source of the fear, but he understood, whatever had happened, it had left a scar on him. Even though the memories had been wiped out, his subconscious was still afraid of what had happened there.

When he heard that, Newton was dumbfounded. At the same time, his expression became grim, understanding that things seem to have spiraled out of control.

At the moment, it was impossible to be able to tell what had really happened back then. After all, everything had happened within the villa, and what followed was that Bob was thrown back in the capital, at the entrance of his house.

Who could have done this? This was the question that Newton needed answers to, but was not sure who he was supposed to ask.

"And Gregory, where is he? You went together, but you are the only one who returned." Newton asked after a moment of silence.

When asked this question, Bob had a blank expression on his face. He literally could not remember what had happened after they had entered the villa together with Gregory.

They had entered together, but after that, everything was blank, and all that he could remember was that he woke up in the hospital in the capital. So, he was just as confused as Newton.

"I’m not really sure about what happened to him. Did he not come back like me? Or, is it possible that they are holding him hostage?" Bob asked, confused.

Newton’s expression became dark, as he understood, things were getting worse.

No matter what had happened, as long as Bob was back, despite the injury that he had suffered, at least, that could be dealt with. And then, who was behind the injuries that Bob had suffered, they could deal with them slowly.

But it was a completely different matter when it came to Gregory. He was one of the very few mutants that the silent order syndicate had.

So, he was very important to the entire syndicate, and the old man would definitely pay attention to his disappearance.

Therefore, unless they could find where Gregory was at the moment, it would be inevitable that the old man would find out about Michael. This was something that left Newton with a big headache.

At least, before this, he could have dealt with the issue, maybe finding a way of convincing the old man of the reason why Bob and Gregory made a trip to Brenton City.

But now, if they needed to investigate about Gregory’s disappearance, and the mystery of what had happened after Bob and Gregory entered the villa, they would have to investigate Michael’s villa.

And at that time, the old man would have to know everything about Michael. And with Michael coming to light, everything that had happened, including Zachary’s death, the old man would have to know about as well.

And at that time, the consequences would be imaginable.

"Can you try as much as possible to remember, to see if there is even a single clue that you can get? At least, we need to start somewhere." Newton asked, feeling desperate.
