~AMBROSE’S POV~
I sat watching in complete awe as the two women danced in combat. Odette moved with precision and grace. And Jaylin was a well-trained alpha, a worthy opponent for her.
I could tell she decided to hold back. She put in a lot of effort no doubt, but when it came to using her abilities, I knew what she was capable of, and she didn’t do more than what was already known, she didn’t show off any of her skills. I could feel the power that surged in her. practically begging to be released.
But she held it in, kept the power at bay. Her self-control rivaled her dedication and determination to win. She is truly an impressive woman.
And she’s mine.
All that power and fire wrapped in silk was mine.
I was surprised by how well my people are accepting of a tie. The crowd looked engaged and excited. Clapping and yelling. Cheering and drinking. The mood was pleasant and upbeat. I take Odette’s hand and walk with her towards the main pack house. After a fight like that, it was food that would be the last thing served. I had tables brought in enough to seat all the members inside the packs dining hall.
I had more soldiers brought in to be on guard so the pack warriors could relax more and have shorter rotations, be able to partake in the festivities. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
People followed us as we walked back to pack house. Laughter floated lightly in the air. The sound of happiness was carried on snowflakes. Jaylin followed close behind us with her family. She had two dads.
Explains a lot honestly.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I realized none of us were dressed for a formal dinner. I turned to the parade of people behind me and yelled.
"Ladies, gentlemen, children, pups, please return to your homes and put on your finest Sunday clothes and join me for a dinner at the pack house."
Everyone cheered. Many departed the lines and some stayed behind, already dressed in their finest, it seems.
I turned back and started pulling on Odette who moved more slowly.
"Why are you dragging your feet, little fox?"
"I don’t know what to wear..." She confessed quietly.
Which made me chuckle.
"We’ll match of course. We can decide together, after a shower." I spoke low enough only she could hear me and with a seductive tone I continued "I want a chance to show you my skills, like you showed me yours in the ring."
She looked up at me, her cheeks burning bright red. I winked and she squeezed her eyes shut a booped her nose and then wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her closer to me.
"Stop it, you’re embarrassing me." She groaned trying half-heartedly to pull away from me. Forcing me to grip her hip tighter.
"Don’t make me it so easy and fun for me to pick on you and I won’t." I teased her some more.
I could hear hushed whispers beside me, but I couldn’t quite make out what was being said.
Tonight, would be interesting. Many favored Odette, some were weary, but she also had some people I felt needed an eye to be kept on.
"Beta Damon, keep an eye on a few of the people who you saw or that you overheard saying negative things about the princess." I said though the channel.
"Understood, Alpha Ambrose."
Arriving at our rooms. I couldn’t wait to be alone with her. Her long braided white hair, I wanted to wrap it around my hand and jerk her head back and expose her neck and mark her. I wanted to touch and reclaim every inch of her body.
But I stopped myself.
And asked a question I’ve been dying to get the answer too.
"So, why did you hold back?"
"Huh?" She looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about.
I frowned.
"You heard me. I don’t like repeating myself."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." She was playing ignorant. But I know she’s noticed a change in her power level as well.
"Don’t act coy Odette, just answer the question." I was firm and serious leaving no further room for argument.
"I’ve never shown anyone what I can do. I don’t even know myself. I have gaps in memories, of things that have happened, but I can’t remember it all. Like a part of me blocked it out. Like my brain is strong enough to handle my own abilities. I’m scared to find out the truth, to know how strong I really am, to know what I’m truly capable of." She confessed. Standing awkwardly in the center of the room, and I leaned back against the wall with my arms crossed.
"You’re scared to learn about yourself."
"Yes, is that so hard to believe? What even vampires feel fear, Alpha King." She snapped at me, clearly annoyed by her own naked, raw, vulnerability.
"No need to bite, princess, I just wanted the truth. You were afraid to hurt Jaylin? Is that it? You doubted her strength as a warrior."
"No, I doubted my ability to control myself and not humiliate myself. The unknown is scary, and I’d be stupid to not fear it, and my momma didn’t raise an idiot." She barked.
"Don’t, trust yourself. That’s how you never fail yourself. By trusting yourself, and your ability. When we get home, you’ll restart your training, I’ll introduce you to the royal witch." I pushed myself off the wall and approached her, wrapping my arms around her, locking her in my embrace. "She will teach you magic, how to control your new abilities. She’s a real bitch though, so be warned."
"I can handle bitches; I went to school with Raven." She joked.
I busted out in a deep laughter. "She’s not that bad once you get to know her."
"Oh, I know her plenty. She’s a bitch." She stood firm in her identification of Raven. And it made me laugh harder.
She wasn’t wrong.
"I want to continue your education, just cause you’re not in school, doesn’t mean you should stop learning. I’ve got a family friend, that works in education. She used to know your family. They went to school together." I mentioned. "Figured someone, a little closer to home would feel nice. And might make you more comfortable."
"Oh, what’s her name?" She asked.
"Ursula BlackBay."
