Chapter 78: The fight

~THIRD PERSON POV~

The moon hung low in the sky, a pale lantern over the courtyard.

Tonight was not about war or politics, but about celebration and fun.

Ambrose had promised them all entertainment.

And at the center of the training yard stood Odette, the vampire princess. Her moonlight white hair braided down her back. She wore a sleek combat suit of black, tailored to her figure. Her crimson eyes gleamed with the promise of violence and excitement.

The crowd fell quiet when their raised his hand commanding the silence.

"Tonight," Ambrose announced, my voice echoing off the walls, "We will witness a dance of power. Between a vampire princess and an alpha wolf. Enjoy."

Ambrose took a seat in the crowd winking ad Odette.

Odette raised her chin slightly, meeting Jaylin’s intense gaze. She tilted her head, almost playfully. "Ready to see if wolves can keep up with vampires, my people?"

Jaylin’s smirk deepened, her fangs glinting under the moonlight. "Try not to cry when you hit the ground, princess."

Odette laughed "Try not to tuck your tail between your legs when I beat you."

In a blur, they launched at each other.

Odette moved first, she vanished, a flicker of shadow in the moonlight. Jaylin pivoted just as Odette reappeared at her side, claws extended. Jaylin’s fist shot out, her knuckles grazing Odette’s jaw, but Odette twisted away mid-air, flipping backward and landing like a cat.

Before Jaylin could lunge again, Odette’s eyes glowed scarlet. The air shimmered, and an invisible force hurled Jaylin backward into the wall with a loud crack. Dust and snow exploded around her, and the watching wolves howled in surprise.

But Jaylin only laughed. Rising from the rubble, she brushed off her shoulders as though Odette had merely tossed a pebble. Her blue eyes narrowed, and her lips parted, revealing sharp fangs. In an instant, she transformed muscles expanded beneath her skin, claws sprouted, she shifted. Her aura surged, raw and primal.

Odette’s expression sharpened. "Finally."

With a howl, Jaylin charged forward. She moved like a storm—powerful, unstoppable. Her claws slashed in a furious arc, and Odette barely ducked beneath it. Jaylin swung again, her knee aiming for Odette’s ribs. The vampire crossed her arms to block, skidding back across the tiles as sparks flew where her boots scraped the stone.

Odette hissed, her fangs lengthening. She reached out with her mind, and suddenly Jaylin felt the ground beneath her feet shift. The stone tiles rose like jagged teeth, forcing her to jump backward. But Jaylin wasn’t easy prey. Twisting in mid-air, she landed in a crouch, then sprang forward again.

Odette extended a hand, her fingers splayed wide. A heavy bench on the side of the courtyard trembled, lifted by her telekinesis, and flew toward Jaylin like a battering ram. Jaylin leapt aside, her claws tearing into the marble as she anchored herself and pushed off, using the momentum to close the gap.

Odette barely had time to react before Jaylin was in her space, claws aiming for her throat. However, Odette ducked and swept her leg out, tripping Jaylin and sending her crashing onto her back. Odette pounced immediately, landing on top of her and pressing a knee into her chest, claws hovering over Jaylin’s throat.

Jaylin snarled, her eyes blazing with defiance. In a sudden twist of strength, she grabbed Odette’s wrist and yanked her down, rolling them both across the ground in a flurry of limbs and snarls. Dust and shards of stone scattered around them as they exchanged strikes.

They separated, breathing heavily, circling each other like twin predators. Odette’s hair was tousled, a trickle of blood at the corner of her lips. Jaylin wiped blood from her brow, a savage smile splitting her face.

"You hit harder than I expected," Odette panted, her voice tinged with laughter.

Jaylin barked a laugh, her canines glinting. "You’re fast as hell, princess. Let’s see what else you’ve got!"

Odette’s eyes gleamed. She rose into the air, lifted by her telekinesis, her body hovering gracefully above the courtyard. The onlookers gasped. With a flick of her fingers, loose stones, debris, and shards of broken marble rose around her, orbiting like a deadly halo.

Jaylin tilted her head, lips curling into a feral grin. "You think floating makes you untouchable?"

Odette’s fingers twitched, and the debris shot down toward Jaylin like meteorites. The wolf shifter lunged forward, weaving through the raining projectiles with astonishing agility. Each piece smashed into the ground behind her, shattering tiles and leaving craters.

When Jaylin reached Odette, she leapt with an explosive force, tackling the vampire out of the air. They crashed into the courtyard, sending a shockwave through the stones. Both of them groaned but refused to stay down.

Rolling apart, they sprang to their feet. Jaylin charged with claws aimed for Odette’s side, but the vampire vanished again, only to reappear behind Jaylin, landing a sharp elbow to her spine. Jaylin gasped but spun around, catching Odette’s wrist and headbutting her fiercely. Odette stumbled, momentarily dazed.

Jaylin seized the opportunity, throwing a heavy punch that connected with Odette’s ribs. The vampire snarled, retaliating with a roundhouse kick to Jaylin’s jaw. The force sent Jaylin crashing into a column, cracking it down the middle. Dust rained down, but Jaylin roared, emerging from the rubble with renewed fury.

Odette inhaled deeply, her aura flaring crimson. Air coiled around her, her telekinetic energy spiraling outward, warping the air around Jaylin. Jaylin’s hackles rose, her wolf senses screaming danger, but she didn’t back down.

Odette thrust her hands forward, and an invisible force slammed into Jaylin’s chest, lifting her and flinging her across the courtyard. Jaylin hit the far wall, leaving a crater of cracked stone. For a heartbeat, everything went still. The crowd held its breath.

But then, a growl rumbled deep from Jaylin’s chest, echoing across the courtyard. She stepped out of the crater, her eyes glowing with moonlight fury. Her muscles rippled as she shook off debris.

Odette’s eyes widened with something between admiration and excitement. She braced herself as Jaylin lunged forward in her full wolf form, teeth bared.

Their clash was a blur of motion, fangs against claws, telekinetic waves against raw strength. Odette darted and flickered, striking with precision, while Jaylin met her with overwhelming power. Each impact cracked stone and sent echoes ringing through the fortress.

At one point, Odette managed to catch Jaylin mid-lunge, lifting her wolf form with her mind and slamming her onto the ground with bone-shaking force. But Jaylin rolled instantly, clawing at Odette’s legs and bringing her crashing down in turn. Odette hissed, kicking Jaylin away, then flipped back to her feet with impossible grace.

They stood, panting, bodies bruised and battered, blood dripping onto the shattered marble. The crowd was silent now breathless.

Jaylin began to shift back to her hybrid form, breathing heavily. "You... You fight like a fucking goddess of war or something," she growled, voice hoarse but impressed.

They both stumbled forward, preparing for another round. But as they raised their fists, they paused, chests heaving. Their eyes locked.

Then, at the exact same moment, they burst out laughing.

Jaylin dropped her fists first, shoulders shaking with each laugh. Odette’s laughter was airy, echoing across the courtyard.

The crowd erupted into cheers and howls of approval.

Jaylin leaned forward, bracing her hands on her knees, her braid swinging forward. "I could keep going...but I think we’d be at this until morning."

Odette wiped blood from her lip, grinning. "I was about to suggest the same."

Jaylin scoffed, but her eyes softened with respect. She straightened, extending a hand toward Odette. "Tie?"

Odette’s red eyes sparkled. She stepped forward, taking Jaylin’s hand firmly. "Tie."

The Alpha King stepped forward, raising his arms. "A tie!" he declared. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

The crowd roared again, wolves howling, clapping and stomping.

Odette turned toward the wolves, lifting Jaylin’s arm high. Jaylin did the same. Together, they stood in the center of the shattered courtyard, bruised but unbroken.

As they finally lowered their arms, Jaylin leaned closer, her golden eyes still alight with mischief. "Next time, princess...I’m taking you down."

Odette tilted her head, her smirk returning. "Next time, Luna...you’ll have to catch me first."

Their laughter mingled under the moonlight, echoing into the surrounding woods.
