Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Desert Cavern

|3rd POV|

Gwyn and his companion arrive inside the guild, intending to wait for Quentyn and Jul-Tan, but to his surprise, they are already here, and by the look of their equipment, they are ready.

As they get closer, the two of them turn around and greet Gwyndolin.

"Yo! Are you guys ready? Or do you need to have some breakfast first? We just finished eating."

Gwyn shakes his head and says.

"Nah. We are good."

Gwyn and his companion already have breakfast with the royal family in the palace. The royal chef even cooks them more food so they can bring it in their hunt.

"Then let us go to the dungeon. By the way, where is it? I did not see the map of the location."

"We will go to the Lava Cavern to the Southwest of here. There is an underground cave at the entrance of the desert."

"Ah, that cave."

"Oh? You know about it?"

Gwyn looks at Quentyn with a curious expression.

"Yup. When I was a child, Jul-Tan and I explored that place. It has become a dungeon, huh? What a shame."

"Were you born in this place by any chance?"

"Born in Mantah? No. I was born in a small village around an oasis a few kilometers away from this cave, a little bit deeper into the desert."

"Huh. I wonder what it looks like. I think I will visit that place when we are done with this quest."

"Sure. I don’t mind. I’ve already planned to visit home, after all. We can go there together if you want."

"Great! It is a promise, then."

"Anyway, we should get going. I already rented a carriage from the guild to take us there."

"You do that for us? Thank you."

"I wonder how you get to your destination because the receptionist says that you never use their service even though your mission location is far away."

Gwyn only smiled and did not say anything. He did not want to say that he and his companion were flying to their destination and using teleportation to get back to Mantah City.

Seeing Gwyn did not want to answer, Quentyn can only sigh and say.

"Oh well. Let’s go. The carriage is already waiting for us. We can talk about strategy while we are going to our destination."

Gwyn nods, and the eight of them leave the guild to start their quest.

=//=

"So, captain. Can you tell us what is the goal of this quest?"

"Captain?"

Gwyn looks at Quentyn, who grins at him.

"Of course. By the look of it, you are the leader of your group, right? That makes you the captain because Jul-Tan and I are a lower-ranking adventurer than you guys."

Gwyn nods his head, accepting the answer.

"Right. The goal for this quest is to exterminate at least thirty C-rank monsters and ten B-rank monsters in this dungeon. However, the guild will be grateful and add more reward if we can destroy the dungeon core."

"Ah, control and clean with the side of the conquer, huh? Got it."

Quentyn is already familiar with this type of mission, not only from his previous life knowledge but also because he and Jul-Tan joined the same type of quest with another higher-ranking adventurer than the two of them.

"Yeah, something like that. This dungeon has ten floors, with the boss room at the end of the tenth floor. However, the previous party of adventurers could not beat the monsters guarding the boss room, so we did not know what kind of monster was inside the boss room."

"That means we have a higher risk if we try to conquer the dungeon, huh?"

"And the guild knows it. They only want to know what kind of monster is inside the room, and they will send a group of people that can take care of the problem."

"Ah, gocha."

"Anyway, I already bought a map of this place and a small book about the monster in this dungeon. Please read it and make sure to memorize it."

Gwyn gives the map to Quentyn and Jul-Tan. They look at the map, memorize it, and then read the book. After a few minutes, they are done. Seeing them done reading, Gwyn continued.

"Now, let’s talk about our fighting style. Let me go first. I’m a healer who can heal from a distance and from touch. Not only that, I’m a Potioneer and can make healing potions and other things."

When Quentyn hears that, he holds a cheer inside his head. He is hoping that Gwyndolin will become a healer instead of a DPS character. Just like in the first game, Gwyndolin will have a random talent, and the highest pick for any speed runner or a 100% walkthrough is Healer Gwyndolin.

The reason? Gwyndolin has amazing stats as a healer. He is tanky and can take quite a bit of damage while also having a great burst healing spell. In the first game, Gwyndolin is a nightmare if he is a healer, as his army is hard to kill, but in the second game, Gwyndolin being a healer is the dream talent for any player.

"I will be the one making sure you guys survive."

Gwyn looks at his wife. Silva smiles and says.

"My name is Silvanna, and I’m an archer, but I can use a short sword to defend myself from monsters that get close. I did not need to get protection all the time because of it. My talent is not good in battle, but I will try my hardest."

Hilda is the next one.

"The name is Hildegard, and I’m also an archer. I can also use my bow on the horse’s back. I can use a spear and sword besides a bow and arrow. I prefer the spear over the sword, but I can do both. My talent is not good in battle."

Sonia nods and says.

"My name is Sonia, and I’m a Vanguard. I’m using my hand and my magic to fight. I can use healing magic to heal myself and deal more damage to the monsters using elemental magic."

Jullian looks up and says.

"Jullian. I will be a vanguard. I use a broadsword. I will be the one taking the attention of the monsters. I have a talent that lets me enchant my body using lightning and use that lightning to strike my enemy."

Jonathan is the last one.

"Jonathan, and I’m an archer. Other than archers, I can also be a vanguard, but we need a corpse to do that. My talent led me to be a puppeteer that let me control the corpse of the monster and use them as a vanguard."

Quentyn looks at the people before him while processing the information he just got. He knows about Jullian and Sonia, as the two of them are in Gwyn’s faction in the first game. However, he did not know that Jonathan, one of the target characters for the Main Character in the first game, would also appear in this place.

Not only that, he also did not know about Silvanna and Hildegard. By the look of it, he knows that the two women are close to Gwyn.

’Does the death of the two of them be the trigger that makes him go like that?’ Quentyn thinks inside his mind, ’The man in front of me is not the insane villain but rather a kind and charismatic leader.’

He puts that thinking into the back of his mind and introduces himself.

"My name is Quentyn, and I’m a vanguard or flank fighter. I use mace and sword as my weapons, and I can use bow and arrow as a secondary weapon. You guys already know about my talent. It was not good at fighting but was great as a scout and information gathering."

Gwyn nods and looks at the last person who has yet to introduce himself.

"My name is Julie-Tan, and I’m a vanguard. I fight using my claws and my fighting gloves. I did not have any magic, but I have a talent that lets me heal every time I hit my target. With my talent, you did not need to prioritize me as a healing target."

Gwyn nods and starts to process this information. After a minute of thinking, he looks at the others and says.

"Then we have an even number for the formation. Jul-Tan and Jullian will be our vanguards. They will be the ones to get the attention of the monsters. Quentyn and Sonia will be our flank. They will be the ones attacking the monster while they are distracted by Jullian and Jul-Tan. I will create a higher platform for the archers. I will stay with the archers to heal the one in need and even boost you using my magic."

The others nod their head as they continue their journey. After four hours of riding, they arrive in front of a desert cavern. They leave the carriage and look at the cavern in front of them.

"Alright, let’s do this."
