Chapter 1317: A Boy

The boy moved quietly through the narrowing paths of Leonora City. His steps were so light that even the scattered gravel beneath his feet failed to produce any sound.

As he went deeper, the structure of the city began to close in around him.

The buildings leaned inward as if pressing the air into a tighter space, while the already dim light faded further into thin streaks that barely touched the ground.

The atmosphere grew quieter yet his pace never slowed, and his gaze remained fixed ahead with unwavering focus, guided by something he could not see but clearly felt pulling at him from within.

It was not just direction that guided him, but a strange and persistent curiosity, something subtle but impossible to ignore like a call that resonated deeper than thought into his being.

He stopped moving.

A faint sound reached him, the soft rhythm of armored footsteps accompanied by low voices.

Not far ahead of him, a patrol of city knights moved through the alley with disciplined precision. Their presence filled the narrow space with authority as their eyes scanned the surroundings carefully.

The boy observed them in silence. His expression did not change and his body remained still as he considered his next move.

"Hmmm... I don’t want to hurt them," he thought quietly, and with that his decision settled. His fingers lifted slightly as his power responded without effort.

The ground beneath him moved almost imperceptibly as thin vines crept outward from unseen cracks then spreading along the walls with unnatural speed yet complete silence.

Leaves unfolded and layered over one another, forming a natural cover that blended seamlessly with the environment and within seconds his body followed that same flow. His presence sinking into the greenery as if it had always been part of it.

To any observer, nothing remained there but a patch of ordinary plants clinging to the stone walls, a lifeless and unremarkable plot of plants.

The knights passed without noticing anything unusual.

When their presence was gone, the plants moved again. It retracted and loosening as the boy stepped out from them as if shedding a second body. He leaves no trace of Magic behind.

Without hesitation, he continued forward. His attention returned fully to the pull that guided him, which now felt stronger, clearer, and far more direct than before.

Step by step, he followed it until he arrived at another alley that stood apart from the others with its deeper shadows, narrower space, and heavier stillness.

He stopped at its entrance. His eyes narrowed slightly.

"This is the closest to the source I felt," he thought, and carefully leaned forward to look inside.

At the far end, he saw three figures standing together.

The boy’s gaze sharpened immediately, not because of their appearance but because of their presence. Even from a distance he could feel it clearly. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

They were not human. That much was certain. Their energy carried a depth and structure completely different from anyone else in the city, something far more powerful than it should have been. Something like his own.

He watched them in silence for a moment, noting the tension in their posture and the seriousness in their expressions. It was as if they had just uncovered something big and important.

"What did they find?" he wondered. A faint frown formed on his face as another thought followed. "And what are they planning to do here?"

He did not like acting without understanding, yet standing there would not give him answers either. After a brief pause, he let out a quiet breath and made his decision.

"I’ll just ask."

He stepped out of the shadows.

The faint light from the alley entrance fell across his small body as he walked forward calmly and without concealment. His movements were clear. He made no attempt to hide his presence any longer.

The reaction was immediate.

Erend, Aesa, and Eccar moved at the same time. Their attention snapping toward him with sharp precision as tension filled the air instantly.

Their instincts reacted before their thought. Their bodies ready, their senses fully alert. None of them had felt him approach, not even a trace of his presence, that was enough to place them on guard.

Eccar moved first beneath the surface. His Magic spread silently into the ground as it flowed outward like unseen roots, creeping steadily toward the boy’s position without revealing itself.

The boy stopped a short distance away from them. He raises one hand slightly with his palm open in a calm and non-threatening gesture. His expression remained composed as he spoke in a steady and clear tone.

"I don’t want to cause any disturbance, so I’d prefer not to fight."

His voice carried no hesitation, fear, or uncertainty, a calmness that did not belong to someone of his age.

The three exchanged glances, their tension not easing in the slightest. In fact, it became even stronger.

Aesa’s eyes narrowed as she studied him carefully.

"...He’s not human," she said quietly.

Erend remained silent, his gaze locked onto the boy with sharp focus to observe every detail about the boy without lowering his guard.

Eccar’s Magic continued to advance beneath the ground, inching closer.

The boy noticed it. But he did not react.

Instead, he simply stood there, meeting their gazes with the same calm and steady expression as if the creeping force beneath him held no threat at all.

"I followed something that caught my curiosity," he continued, his calm tone not changing one bit. "And it led me here... to you three."

A faint pause settled between them as his eyes moved from one to another, studying them just as they studied him.

Then he asked, without hesitation and without fear, "What did you find in this world?"

"Who are you?" Erend asked with a frown.

Ecca and Aesa waited beside him. They were still in a stance that showed they were ready to fight.

"I’m just like you," the boy said, giving them a small smile. "I’m also a Dragonborn."
