Chapter 593: Dita Karenza’s PoV

At the venue, Dita Karenza didn’t know that she had just become the talk of the room outside right now. Well, even if she knew, the woman couldn’t care less about it. Right now, she was still fidgeting with the pawn she had taken from the opponent quietly, waiting for the Mongolian IM to make a move.

She had never shown it outside of the world, but inwardly, Dita Karenza was way more excited than she could ever be. The woman had never thought that she could lead the entire pack by herself with two rounds to go, and yet, here she was, being so close to beating the top-seeded player of the tournament after yesterday, she toppled the current best women’s player of the country.

She was flying, and the woman was trying her best to make sure that it didn’t inflate her ego too much.

"Okay, I need to stay calm... I cannot muck this up...’ Dita Karenza took a deep breath, trying to hide the bubbling excitement inside her heart. ’God has given me this one-in-a-billion chance, throwing it up is not a choice! This is my chance to win, yes! I can do this!’ She kept trying to hype herself up inwardly.

This wasn’t just a chance for her to break through the bottleneck and get her out of the 2000-rated club, and this wasn’t also her chance to get into probably the biggest women’s tournament of the year. More importantly, this was her biggest chance to emerge into the surface, putting her name into the list of those profitable players in this country.

Yeah, even though Dita Karenza lived far from the capital city, she still followed the updates there, and the woman knew that people—wealthy ones, mostly—had been burning their money recklessly as if they didn’t think about it twice. Or even once, to be honest.

More crazy-rich people had been willing to sponsor the development of chess players there, and even though they all revolved around just one player, the chance was still there.

Dita Karenza also heard some of the players who received benefits, and honestly, this situation was way better than a few years ago, when no chess players with the name of anything but Irene Kharisma Sukandar or Susanto Megaranto had a chance to make a living through chess. That was why, despite her potential, the woman still chose to leave chess for a few years to work in a normal 9-to-5 job.

Now, she felt like she was so close to saying goodbye to that ordinary life. However, to do so, Dita Karenza knew that she couldn’t slip, especially since this was the most crucial time in the tournament.

’My advantage is quite clear at this point. I have already reached through her side, and it will be soon before I drag her king out of that comfy zone. Now, I have to think of a way to bring out my other pieces to join the fun, and I have to do that without giving up my defense. Hmm... Choice, choice...’

The woman pondered over the position carefully, and in the next few moves, the evaluation bar really showed a volatile swing. She didn’t do it perfectly, but Bathkuyag Munguntuul also failed to capitalize on Dita’s mistake to make the game equal again. It seemed that the Mongolian IM wasn’t in her best condition, what with this being the seventh game she had to play in the last four days.

This was also what Sheva complained about, but fortunately, the boy had basically adapted to the rhythm after the second day was over.

As time went by, her advantage kept getting bigger, and although she made some fundamental mistakes that could cost her the whole game, Dita Karenza managed to keep her composure for the rest of it, to the point that Bathkuyag Munguntuul finally didn’t have any move except those that could lead her into her own downfall.

The moment the Mongolian IM offered a handshake, though, Dita Karenza had to hold back the urge to squeal. Her eyes were shining as she knew exactly that this was the best win she had ever earned in more than ten years of her chess career.

The gleam of happiness on her face couldn’t be fake even for a second, as the woman hummed cheerfully while walking out of the venue. ’Thank God, everything goes well for me. It is not the smoothest game, but at least I am now the sole leader of the tournament! Kyah! This is so awesome!’

As she stepped outside of the venue, though, Dita Karenza suddenly saw Irfan waving at her, and the woman didn’t hesitate to come. Although they weren’t close to each other, given how small the chess community in the country was, at least, she could say that the man was one of her acquaintances. It also helped that Irfan’s name soared high as Sheva’s coach, so it would be great to learn something from the man.

"Hey, Master Irfan, how do you do?" She greeted with a polite smile.

"Definitely not as awesome as you, right?" Irfan smiled teasingly.

Dita Karenza giggled sheepishly, knowing that she couldn’t hide it at all. "Anyway, what is going on?" She asked curiously.

"It is like this. You know that we are having a live broadcast. Right?" She nodded at the question. "Do you mind having a word or two with our host?"

Dita was taken aback for a moment. "You mean like an interview?"

"No, not like an interview. It is definitely an interview."

"Why, of course!" Dita agreed quickly. This was a free PR if she saw one, and she knew exactly the importance of having a presence on social media.

Sarah took over the matter immediately, and soon enough, they both had already talked in front of the camera about everything, from her feelings, her time here, her preparation, and even her expectations for the future. Not that young anymore, Dita didn’t have any camera fright, answering each one of them brilliantly.

Honestly, with her bubbly personality, she could be a host herself, and her popularity would soar instantly on the Internet. After a while, the interview was finally over, but before she left, the woman saw a familiar boy, the one who had been wreaking havoc in the chess world, the presence who she had only seen from afar, approaching her, and she couldn’t help but blurt out his name unconsciously. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
