Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 90: What’ll Happen Now?
One look towards the others tells me that they don’t know how to move forward with the goliath ahead either.
Airi said about waiting around for a little while but is that really going to be the best possible option for us to go with. There’s no guarantee that more zierel aren’t making their way towards us right now.
I just don’t have another solution yet.
If I want to become strong enough to wipe the zierel from existence I’ll need to be able to come up with solutions. So think, what could possibly help here.
I start looking around the area for any sort of way to get out of here. Everything seems to lead towards the goliath or back towards the way we came from.
Except one spot in the ceiling a bit further ahead. It kind of looks like a small opening that we might be able to fit into if we are lucky enough.
I walk past them and take a closer look at the opening.
This really could be the way out that we are looking for.
"What is it Liam?" Airi asks with a curious tone.
"I might know a way to get out of here without fighting the goliath ahead," I answer while looking up at the hole.
She walks over and takes a look at what I’m staring at.
"An opening in the ceiling, lucky for us. I guess this could work," Airi says with a bit of hope in her voice.
"Then we should take advantage of it while we have the chance to do so," I suggest.
She gives a slight nod.
"Zeno, Amelia. Come on," Airi says while gesturing for them to come over.
The two of them come over to us and look up towards the opening as well.
"We’ll boost someone up and have the other pull someone, then repeat. That seems simple enough," Zeno speaks up with confidence.
No one really has anything to say about that since it is completely silent still.
"Let’s boost Airi up first," I suggest.
I bend down and extend my hands out to get ready to boost her up. Within a few seconds she puts her feet onto my hands and I quickly push her up.
I let out a light grunt as I get her to the opening.
"I got a grip on something up here, give me a second. There might be a spot for me to hold myself up," Airi says while keeping her voice low.
She finally pulls herself up and for a second nothing happens, then she peeks back over the edge.
"I’ll send Zeno next," I speak with a calm tone.
Just like with Airi I boost him up towards her and the two of them get situated up there.
It takes a little more effort because of the weight difference but I manage to boost him up there. One problem I suddenly notice is that the goliath is quite now.
"Did you notice it?" I ask while looking towards Amelia.
"It is completely quiet all of a sudden," Amelia responds with a concerned look on her face.
"Quickly, come here," I say while getting ready to boost her up.
She rushes over to me and I boost her up to the others while the sound of stomping suddenly comes towards me.
ROLL!!!
I manage to get out of the way in time as the goliath rushes past me. I can just barely see its giant figure with distorted limbs poking out from different points in its body.
"Liam! Come on!!" Airi shouts with worry in her voice.
This goliath isn’t just being loud for no reason, it is doing it to cause confusion for potential prey. So this thing was a lot smarter than we originally thought.
Underestimating any zierel from now on will only lead to my death.
I push aside my thoughts and rush back over to the opening.
Hyup!!
Without wasting any time I jump up towards Airi and grab her hand.
"I got you! Come on!" She shouts while pulling me up.
STOMP!!!! STOMP!!!!!
The goliath is rushing back towards me, but Airi manages to pull me up just before it reaches me.
I made it up into the ceiling with everyone after all... It is kind of nice in this spot but I don’t think it’ll just stay down there patiently. Which is exactly why I got the feeling to look down there myself for some unknown reason.
My eyes immediately wandered to the hole to see if it was looking up here at all.
Dark red eyes are staring at me from below but it doesn’t feel like anything I’ve dealt with before. The feeling almost felt like sadness for some reason.
Why am I feeling sad looking back at this goliath instead of fear or anything else? It would’ve killed me if I was still down there so what is this?
Zierel don’t make any sense to me at this point with the amount of feelings I’ve experienced from them.
"Because it is sad," Celeste speaks up.
What could it possibly be sad about when we are the enemy here?
"I don’t know why it is sad but it is. Maybe because you could’ve been food or it could’ve been hoping you’d free it," Celeste responds calmly.
What could I possibly free it from? This monster is waiting for food or the opportunity to kill more humans... I doubt it was anything good.
Then again I feel divided after what I learned from...
"From the vision you saw? It makes sense why you feel that way," Celeste says before I can finish my thought.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
"Liam are you okay?" Airi asks with concern in her voice.
"Yeah. I just am surprised it knew we were leaving the area," I respond while taking my gaze away from the hole.
"Zierel are smart with certain situations I guess you could say," Airi says with no real way to justify it.
"Perhaps we can keep going," Amelia chimes in softly.
"Yeah, let’s go. I don’t think we should sit around," Airi agrees before leading the way.
I follow behind them as we climb up the mysterious opening more, it feels a lot like a random vent. The walls only seem to get tighter the higher we get.
Nobody is saying anything about the climb up at all. Just continuing to push through it until we find our way out of here.
Wriggle. Wriggle.
Celeste is moving around with the further we climb as well which is interesting. It doesn’t feel painful or anything but... A little strange considering we are moving away from the zierel below.
There hasn’t been any struggle with the feeling in my arm since we killed that hybrid.
"I think there might be a slight opening ahead," Airi says loud enough for us all to hear.
"Thank God, I’m about done with this space," Zeno replies with a bit of frustration.
"I agree with that," Amelia chimes in.
I keep quiet as we finally reach another opening at what appears to be a giant room.
All of these rooms with no explanation to why they exist or how the city even thought of any of this. Did they even make these rooms or was it the zierel who did it?
I’m finding myself stuck with more and more questions as time goes by. I’ll probably never find answers for any of it either since the people who built the city are dead.
The city itself doesn’t seem to have any survivors left over after the zierel arrived.
"Zierel wouldn’t build pointless rooms like this," Celeste says with confidence.
I’m glad you pop up all the time, almost like you know the right time. Not that I mind since it does give me a bit of insight on the zierel sometimes.
"Not like anyone else is giving you information about my kind," Celeste responds.
Airi told me a few things but it hasn’t been anything about your actual history from my understanding. I don’t think the light bearers actually know a thing about your kind... Other than the darkness you thrive in.
And maybe some of the different variants of your kind.
"Light bearers never really took the time to look into us like they think they did. Otherwise they’d have beaten us in the war a long time ago," Celeste says with a serious tone.
They would’ve won if they did their homework? How shocking. Obviously it wasn’t a complete win on your side either since you guys aren’t there anymore.
"Because of a last resort that worked in their favor," Celeste says while slowly fading away.
The last resort being the sun that kept us humans safe and alive. I don’t know how we aren’t dead from the cold if the sun is truly gone.
Or did I talk to Airi about this before? I can’t really remember but I think it still exists out there somewhere... Just it needs to be given back to our realm.
