Chapter 62: Chapter 62: The Raven Scream

"I don’t know if you are stupid or brave. Maybe both.

Your power isn’t rare. The ability to shapeshift into another animal is nothing special."

The suit of armor says in response. It does not consider Blaze as a threat even for a single bit.

Adam points his gun at the raven.

"Now, mister, whoever you are. I must ask you to come with me to the police station to cooperate with the investigation."

The raven looks at the two of them. All five of its pupils focus on their direction.

"And what if I refuse?"

"I’m afraid this is not a request but an order. You can either come with me warm or I bring you in cold."

Adam waves his two fingers. Several police officers exit out of the dark. In their hand, each holds an electrified baton.

The standard issue melee weapon of the Akansa Police Force. It may not be the best in durability or damage, but it is one of the most reliable crowd control items that the police have. The GX-78 Electon.

Each police officer twists the small black knobs on the baton, blue electricity pours out from beneath the smooth surface of the weapon.

Even though this electricity has the same color as Blaze’s Thunderbolt. Its destructive capabilities can’t even be compared.

One is only artificial electricity energy, while the other is true lightning, the wrath of gods falling down on ordinary men.

The raven walks along the edges of the rooftop. It walks gracefully, looking like a model on a runway.

Then, the raven lets out a cawing laugh. Its laugh is high-pitched and jarring, irritating the listeners.

"What are you even laughing at?"

Adam is extremely annoyed. He just wants to shut that bird’s mouth off forever.

"I’m laughing to welcome the death that is about to come!"

And then the raven flies into the middle of the rooftop bar.

"Fear!"

The low, deep voice echoes throughout the air.

The raven spreads its wings wide, dark red energy pours out from under its feathers.

The yellow irises that are supposed to be occupied by Blaze suddenly turn red.

The color that fills the raven’s eyes right now is dark red, occupying the same shade and wavelength as the dark red energy that is materializing itself.

None can see this energy.

None can fill the enormous and otherworldly power it brings forth.

None except for Adam Gulliver.

"What is this power?"

Adam says.

The suit of armor immediately speaks up.

"Power? What are you talking about? What are you seeing?" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"What?! You can’t see these?"

In front of Adam’s eyes, the dark red energy surges forward like waves of tsunamis.

Some of it separates from the giant flow and turns into disgusting insects.

These insects are lunging at his subordinates.

"Dodge! Don’t let them touch you!"

Adam shouts, but his subordinates can’t see the force of Fear and therefore, can’t avoid it effectively.

The insects crawl into their body via the opening gateways on their face.

A centipede drills itself into a young cop’s ear.

A locust stuffs itself into another cop’s nostril.

Another has a horde of cockroaches climbing into his mouth.

Then it begins.

The first cop constricts his entire body and drops down. Veins bulge on his head, visibly swirling under his skin.

He bites his teeth hard, saliva spills out from the corner of his mouth.

"What’s wrong, Donald?"

Other cops rush to his rescue.

Donal tries his best to speak but can only utter hard-to-understand individual words.

"Argh... Ughhh... Run... Mental... Power..."

The Fear Hidden Power lets anyone fall into an extreme fear mental state, which neutralizes them from doing anything else other than cowering in horrification.

But if the affected target is powerful enough or has enough mental strength to resist Fear, the result will be this cop here.

It almost seems like he is convulsing due to some complicated disease. The truth is his body is simply trying to fight back the influence of the Hidden Power.

Following him are several more cops. They begin to collapse one by one.

Some can’t even resist the power and turn into a panic sniveling baby.

Some are similar to the first cop, able to resist the Hidden Power to an extent.

However, there are cops strong enough to withstand the effect of fear, those that are very similar to Nadyr Brozovic.

These types of cops stagger in place. A strong dizziness and headache takes over their brain.

Adam avoids the energy exuded by Fear. His agility is admirable, and he moves like a cat in the shadow, jumping out of the waves of energy.

The insect construct also tries to attack Adam.

He takes out a huge knife with saw crevices at the back of the blade. He slashes at the insects, but they fade through it like smoke.

"These aren’t physical?"

Adam uses the knife to cut the palm of his other hand. He drops blood onto the blade.

The blood seeps inside the knife like it is fusing with it.

And then, the silver-colored, shiny knife radiates intense heat. A veil of orange light covers the knife.

Adam slashes the insects again, this time successfully hurting them. The insects dissolve and turn back to the dark red energy.

Those energies start to regroup and transform back into the insects again.

Adam aims his palm, the one with the open wound, toward the energy.

An orange beam of light shoots out from his blood.

The dark red energy is vaporized and becomes visible to the naked eye.

"Oh. An invisible type of energy. So your power isn’t telepathic."

The Fear waves bury the suit of armor. Insects swarm the Iron Knight, they get inside the crevices between the armor. But the man isn’t reacting at all, he stands still as if nothing is affecting him.

A white beam shoots out of the thrusters at the back of the armor, propelling the man forward at an insane speed. He reaches out his hand and grabs Isaac, who is floating in midair.

He grabs the raven by the throat, interrupting the Hidden Power.

The cops around return to normal, their dazed eyes regain their focus. The headache and dizziness go away, and everyone gets out of the power’s influence.

"How... are you immune?"

Words emit from the raven in a crude way, trying to get past the enormous pressure the suit of armor is pushing on its neck.

The head of the armor cracks open, and the visor covering the man’s face lifts up. Under it is no one but an empty husk.

"Do you really think I have the time to come here just for a small operation? I have much more important things to do."

The raven lets out a cawing laugh again.

"Impressive. As expected of the Iron Knight. I underestimated you."

"And now you will die, shapeshifter!"

The suit of armor strangles Isaac. Its metallic palms crush the raven, but the bird turns into a small fireball, completely phasing through his attack.

The armor clamps his palm together, catching nothing but air.

The yellow fireball leaves his hand. The suit of armor tries to catch it but can’t reach over the spiritual realm.

Isaac flies far away from the armor, then turns back to the raven again.

"I too have more important things to do. It is a shame that none of us is really here.

If not, we could have ended this ordeal quickly.

I will come for you, Giancarlo Cavalcante. Mark my words."

Isaac flies away before turning back to the fireball and enters the ground, completely disappearing from everyone’s sight.

"Smart move. If you stay above, my satellite will have found out your true position."

The armor speaks.

The other cops recover and try to regroup behind Adam.

"What the hell?! He isn’t a shapeshifter?"

Adam says.

The suit of armor shakes its empty husk.

"It isn’t a Shapeshifter nor a Manipulator like Rufus reported. This is a completely different type of power."

Adam grinds his teeth.

"We need to find him and kill him!"

"We do. But I doubt this coward dares to find me.

You, on the other hand, should watch out. There is no A-rank in Akansa.

He will come for you."

"You have to help me!"

"That’s none of my problem."
