Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Business

The three spend their quality time together. The afternoon and the evening fly by without notice.

They spend some time talking, watching TV, and then playing some board game in the house.

In the evening, when the scorching sun is no longer present, the three go out for a jog.

The desert is both peaceful and deathly silent. Not a sound of an animal can be heard in this darkness.

But the wind is always howling and blowing. It provides a cooling sensation opposite to the sun at day.

It has been quite a long time since everything has been so calm for Blaze.

The expulsion from school. The broken legs. Phuc’s annoying voice echoed around the house.

Then the non-stop killing.

But all of that is gone now. Only the promising future is left.

Alyson decides to stay the night. Kana drags Alyson from Blaze’s room to her room.

"Listen, girl. It is not good to be so forward. We are women, and we need to be a little distant, you know."

"But... But..."

Alyson stutters.

"No buts! You’re sleeping with me. I can’t guarantee you guys don’t do anything stupid at night.

You guys are only sixteen, for God’s sake. I do not want to have grandchildren yet!"

"But I didn’t want to do anything!"

Blaze waves good night to Alyson, witnessing her being involuntarily dragged away by Kana.

Blaze returns to his room and lies on the bed.

He sets up an alarm early in the morning. He has things to do.

The house falls into silence, and sweet dreams come for each of them.

This is a peaceful, silent night at Blaze’s house.

But not at the Roof.

Later that night.

The premise was cleared out by the police, and all the captives were transferred away, trying to reunite with their family and loved ones.

On the once crowded rooftop bar, now the only thing left is dry blood sticking to its floor and the sense of death. A suit of armor flies down from above and roughly lands on the rooftop.

The ground around cracks, and the entire floor almost crumbles to pieces. But it holds on.

Standing there is a sleek, dark blue mechanical suit of armor. Its surface is so smooth that it reflects the outside world like a mirror.

On its wearer’s face is a smooth glass visor that covers their entire head.

"Woah! Careful with my crime scene."

A man steps out of the dark. He is around his forties with two streaks of grey hair running on the sides of his head.

He has a clean-cut hairstyle that is slightly waving in the wind. The man wears a dark brown overcoat, the kind that is notoriously worn by police detectives.

But this man is no detective, he is the chief police officer of Akansa, also holding the title of Commissioner of the Akansa Police Force, Adam Gulliver.

"Adam. Where’s the guy?" The suit of armor emits a man’s voice.

"Tch."

Adam gestures with his head. Two police officers drag Rufus out from the shadows.

His face is a mess of flesh and blood. His entire body falls on the ground like some stringless puppet that lost its master.

Rufus groans in pain. He struggles on the ground and lifts his head up to face the suit of armor.

"Mr. Knight. I didn’t do anything!"

Rufus tries his best to speak out but is only able to let out a barely audible tone.

The suit of armor squats down in front of Rufus and grabs his hair, pulling his entire body up in the most painful way.

"Everyone died. Why are you alive?"

Rufus’ lips tremble intensely. His entire face twists due to the pain.

"I wasn’t at the Roof, sir. I was in my safehouse. It was all luck that I was able to survive."

"The attacker knows every nook and cranny inside the Roof. He just happened to know it?"

The suit of armor pulls Rufus’s hair harder, causing some part of his scalp skin to peel off.

Rufus screams and begs for the pain to stop. Tears and snot flow out of his face holes, completely disgusting and pathetic.

"Please! I swear it’s the truth!

The guy has a raven accompanying him. He’s a Manipulator!

It’s probably the reason why he was able to know it!

I’m not a traitor! Please believe me!"

"From the experience of my lines of work."

Adam speaks up.

"He probably is telling the truth."

"True or false. What matters is they fail to secure my profit."

The suit of armor coldly says.

"It was... what... around two million credits, yeah?" Adam says. "That isn’t even comparable to your lunch money.

What are you even talking about, Mister Trillionaire?"

The suit of armor punches Rufus ruthlessly. His remaining teeth fly out.

"Money is money. No matter how small it is.

This also isn’t about two million credits. It is not easy to find good staff to run your business.

All the merchandise was lost as well."

The man behind the armor almost sounds like he grinds his teeth with every word said.

"It is going to cost a lot of time, effort, and money to build another Roof."

Suddenly, a deep, low voice echoes around the rooftop.

"Just kill the guy already."

The suit of armor instantly releases Rufus and turns toward the voice. It aims its wrists and shoots out several beams of white energy from a tiny barrel.

The five-eyed raven bounces from the electric lines and rolls a few times in the air to dodge the lasers.

"A raven?" Adam says.

The suit of armor holds fire to assess the situation, giving the raven time to land on the top of the bar.

From here, Isaac looks down to the Chief of Police and the man that can be Giancarlo Cavalcante.

Isaac’s five red eyes are replaced with the yellow irises.

"So. As I was expecting. The police are corrupt."

"Don’t throw out random accusations, my friend. Mister Iron Knight is here to cooperate with the investigation."

Adam says. He slowly reaches for his gun that is tucked inside the holster.

The raven lets out a cawing laugh.

"No matter. I will come for you eventually.

But you, Cavalcante. I didn’t expect to meet you so soon."

"You know me?"

The suit of armor says.

"No... But the goons did. So I just simply asked the goons."

"Why kill my men?"

The armor says.

"Why not? They deserve to die. They harmed many, many innocents."

The armor lets out a snorting sound, simply despising this thought.

"People harm each other every day. They do it consciously, or they do it unintentionally. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

But whatever the purpose is, the Roof was simply a provider for the consumers.

If there was no demand, there would be no supply.

It is simply business."

The head of the raven turns around, it is thinking about what the armor just said.

"What do you want? Who are you?" Adam says, he draws his gun in one swift motion and aims at the talking bird.

"What do I want? Surely you must already know the answer, Adam. I am here to cleanse this city."

"Superhero complex? Don’t tell me you’re one of those maniacs."

Adam says.

"Not really. It’s just that your deaths will benefit me greatly.

Or you can say that... It is simply business."
