Chapter 116: From One Month to Eighteen Month

Two and a half hours later, Dennis could feel the ground beneath his feet begin to vibrate, and a faint humming sound echoed from deep below. It seemed Emerald City had finally started to move, detaching itself from Onyx City. Gary and Jason stood up, followed by Dennis, and the three of them began heading toward the gate to stand guard, knowing that a swarm of enemies would likely attack any moment now. Daisy, Olivia, and Kimberly emerged from the school building and ran to catch up with their husbands, who were already making their way to the entrance, before falling into step beside them.

As they walked, Dennis looked down and touched his chest, feeling a unique sensation spreading through his body. A warm energy flowed through him, making him feel completely revitalized.

"This is really strange. What exactly is happening," Dennis muttered in his heart.

He tried opening his status window to check it again. His level was still the same—level 58. Confused, he closed the status interface.

"Sami, what’s going on with me? Why do I feel like I’m leveling up even though my status hasn’t changed?" Dennis asked.

[Hmm... that shouldn’t be happening, Master, considering you aren’t doing anything. Let me check into it, and I’ll get back to you.]

"Yeah, please do. I’m honestly curious, and it’s starting to freak me out a bit," Dennis replied in his head.

[Understood, Master.]

Noticing that Dennis looked uneasy, Daisy, who was walking right beside him, leaned forward and turned to look at his face.

"What’s wrong, honey?" Daisy asked.

"Nothing... just a bad feeling," Dennis answered. "I can’t exactly tell her I feel like I’m leveling up; she wouldn’t understand," Dennis said in his heart.

When they reached the front gate, several dimensional rifts began to tear open. Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly charged forward to attack the enemies emerging from the rifts, joining the other students guarding the gate. The battle erupted, and the roar of combat shattered the silence. Meanwhile, Dennis stood frozen as he felt himself leveling up even faster, the warm flow in his body turning into a searing heat. Because he had previously leveled up during the adrenaline-fueled rush of combat, he hadn’t noticed it then, but this time was different. His adrenaline was still cold, yet his energy was overflowing, making him extremely uncomfortable.

Daisy stood firmly by his side, even though she had already drawn her katana and was ready for action. She didn’t budge from Dennis’s side, even as all their friends were already fighting in front of them.

"Can you move forward, honey?" Daisy asked anxiously.

"Ugh... I’ll wait here for a second. You should go help our friends," replied Dennis, who was confused and starting to break out in a cold sweat.

"Alright, I’m heading in. You stay here, okay," Daisy said.

"Yeah, be careful, honey," Dennis replied, leaning against the gate wall while clutching his chest.

"I’ll be back in just a second," Daisy promised.

Daisy immediately charged ahead to back up Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly in the heat of the fight. From where he stood, Dennis watched Gary impale a tusk crawler, while Jason shot one before pivoting to drive his knife into a bug crawler right beside him. Olivia was launching fireballs at the tusk crawlers, and Kimberly was spraying bullets at anything in front of her, including the dimensional rifts themselves.

Then he saw Daisy begin to slice through the bug and tusk crawlers in her path, joined by students from the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades who were all fighting hard to secure their school and the surrounding area from the encroaching enemy. Almost everyone was a mess again; their clothes were getting stained with blood, slime, and all sorts of grime from the crawlers they were taking down.

Dennis checked his status interface again, but his level remained exactly the same. Even his experience points didn’t budge when Daisy killed an enemy. However, he noticed the holographic interface looked slightly distorted, even though the text hadn’t changed—as if something was interfering with it, causing the display to glitch out.

"Is the system malfunctioning... but how? It’s been fine all this time. I really don’t get it... uh... maybe I should just charge in... yeah, I’ll go in just to burn off this energy," Dennis muttered in his heart while closing the status interface again.

Without delaying any longer, Dennis kicked off the wall and lunged into the battlefield. He spotted Viola struggling, cornered by two bug crawlers from opposite directions. He landed and "crack," he instantly punched one bug crawler until it was crushed into the ground, turning as its blood splattered and soaked his body. Then he spun around, striking the other bug crawler with the back of his hand, knocking it flat on its back—a move Viola seized to stab it until it was dead.

After both bug crawlers were killed, "Thank you, Brother Dennis," Viola said, panting for breath.

"You’re... welcome... sorry, I have to keep moving," Dennis replied with a pained expression.

"Um... are you okay, Brother?" Viola asked, looking anxious as she watched him.

"I’m fine... I’m going," Dennis answered.

Dennis immediately leaped away from Viola, who stood there dazed and looking a bit worried as she watched him charge forward to intercept the other monsters emerging onto the battlefield.

"Is he really okay?" Viola wondered, worried.

Then Viola pushed forward again to find her twin sister Fiona, her brother-in-law Franky, and her husband Mario, her face filled with worry as she glanced back at Dennis’s back, which had already vanished into the distance in an instant.

Meanwhile, Dennis continued his rampage, tearing through bug crawlers, tusk crawlers, and any other monsters in his path that blocked him from reaching Daisy, who was already visible alongside Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly.

The students nearby who saw Dennis losing it looked shocked; some seemed terrified of his fury, fearing they might get caught in the crossfire, while others felt relieved by the help but said nothing, and some just didn’t care, ignoring Dennis as he tore past them.

While running and finishing off his enemies, Dennis opened his distorted status interface once again and checked it. It turned out his level and EXP hadn’t budge at all, even though he had already killed plenty of monsters.

"Man... it really looks like the system is malfunctioning... oh well, I can’t feel that energy flow anymore since I’ve gotten fired up, so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable anymore," Dennis muttered as he sprinted forward.

Finally, Dennis started running again, a smile beginning to spread across his face as he crushed the enemies in his path to reunite with Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly, who were already far ahead and had successfully closed several dimensional rifts near them.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city—specifically in the western district near the farms—"skrieeeek," "crack... crack... crack," "blam," a claw centipede slammed violently into the dirt. The monster collapsed right in front of Diana, Dulcia, and Deborah, who immediately crouched over the carcass to harvest its hard shell, eyes, and anything else worth taking, stashing the loot into their dimensional storage. Diana twirled her pistol, liquefying it back into thick blood that flowed into her wrist. She then turned to look at Dulcia, who was cracking her knuckles, looking disheveled and drenched.

"Who would’ve thought we’d already be fighting two monsters like this out here in the farmlands," Diana remarked.

"Yep, our husband must have leveled up a lot by now," Dulcia added.

Deborah, having finished scavenging and dissecting the monster, stood up and wiped her hands with a cloth.

"Sami, what level is our husband at now?" Deborah asked, looking up casually.

[I will display it.]

Diana, Dulcia, and Deborah read the massive holographic interface floating before them, and naturally, they grinned with satisfaction. They glanced at the small timers in their heads; the countdown that had originally been one month and had already dropped by two days had now jumped to 18 months. Sami explained to them that every time Dennis gained a level, their time in the outside world increased by one month. The three of them immediately cheered, high-fiving each other and jumping for joy.

"Yes... yes... we did it! Our time out here is 18 months now... yes!" Dulcia shouted.

"Thank you, Sami. You’re really helping us out," Deborah said cheerfully.

[You are very welcome, Mistress.]

"But does our husband know?" Diana asked anxiously.

[Rest easy, Mistress. I am jamming his interface; he is likely confused right now because his screen isn’t changing even though he’s killing plenty of enemies.]

"I feel bad lying to our husband... but... this is for the greater good," Diana said.

[That is correct, Mistress.]

"Wait... Daisy... why... are there three of you?"

The three of them jumped in shock at the voice behind them. They whipped around, their eyes going wide as they saw a dirty, disheveled Sasha standing there. Her entire team was with her—Ivan, Sasha, Hyunjin, Minji, Brad, and Akira—having been called to the western district for backup. They all stood frozen, staring at three versions of Daisy with the same face and the same clothes, differing only in how they tied their hair. The three Daisies turned pale, breaking into a cold sweat as their jaws dropped.

"Oh... shit," Diana, Dulcia, and Deborah muttered in unison.
