I Married the President-Chapter 91: How Could I Not Take You Seriously?
Phoebe Lockwood simply grabbed her arm to keep her from leaving, snapping, "Say that again!"
"I’m not getting it," Claire repeated coolly.
Just as Phoebe Lockwood was about to lose her temper, she caught a few familiar figures out of the corner of her eye. She immediately put on a pitiful act, shaking Claire’s arm and whining.
"Please, Claire, go get it for me. If you help me with this, I’ll do anything you ask from now on. I’m begging you."
’What’s going on?’
Claire was a little baffled.
Her confusion lasted until hurried footsteps approached from behind, followed by a flustered voice. "Vera, what’s wrong? What is it? Hurry and tell Daddy." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Phoebe Lockwood turned to face Governor Lockwood, releasing Claire’s hand. With a voice that was clearly aggrieved yet still held a smile, she said, "Dad, it’s nothing, really. I just forgot my speech draft and asked a colleague to grab it for me, but she absolutely refuses."
Governor Lockwood was immediately displeased. He chided, "How can a newcomer like you be so tactless? Vera is about to receive President Helmanro. Do you have any idea how important that is? Hurry up and get her speech draft!"
Claire frowned. "Governor Lockwood, I’m sorry, but I can’t help with that. Please ask someone else to get it. I have other tasks to attend to."
Governor Lockwood raged, "Are you telling me you have no respect for me as governor?"
’That’s right.’
Claire agreed in her heart, but she put on a placating expression. "Governor Lockwood, you are the esteemed governor of our Aethelgard. How would I dare disrespect you?"
The words had barely left her lips when someone stepped out from behind Governor Lockwood. "Claire Sinclair, what’s the matter with you? Governor Lockwood himself has given an order. Why are you just standing there gawking!"
The speaker was none other than Warren Wallace, the editor-in-chief who had joined Astoria Daily on the same day as Phoebe Lockwood.
Claire sighed in resignation. ’It looks like I’m going to lose this job no matter what.’
Just as she was about to speak, a low, pleasant voice came from behind her. "Why is everyone blocking the hall?"
Claire’s heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively turned to see who had spoken.
Not only Governor Lockwood, but everyone else present wore an expression of reverence upon seeing the newcomer.
Phoebe Lockwood’s expression immediately became one of infatuation. She stared, dumbfounded, at the distinguished figure before her, captivated not only by his handsome features but even more so by his innate, kingly aura.
’Adrian Quincy. The youngest master in the history of Quincy Manor, a man who held the real power in Aridia. The top candidate for next year’s election, and the very connection her father was most desperate to make.’
’The man of her dreams was standing right in front of her!’
In an instant, Governor Lockwood’s expression turned sycophantic. He bowed slightly and said, "Young Master Quincy, you’re here."
Adrian Quincy shot him a cold glance, his eyes skipping over Phoebe’s infatuated expression before finally landing on Claire.
Claire greeted him politely. "Mr. Quincy."
Adrian Quincy gave a slight nod. "Mrs. Hale arrives in thirty minutes. You and Nancy Lockwood go make the preparations."
Claire nodded. Before she left, she glanced at the Lockwood father-daughter duo.
"Governor Lockwood, I’m truly sorry, but I have other work arrangements. Please ask someone else to get it."
After she spoke, she left with Nancy Lockwood, leaving the father and daughter to stare in astonishment.
After that girl had left, Governor Lockwood couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Young Master Quincy, what did you assign that newcomer to do?"
Adrian Quincy’s cold eyes narrowed slightly, and an intimidating chill emanated from him. "Do the work arrangements of Quincy Manor need to be reported to you, Governor Lockwood?"
Governor Lockwood was so terrified he almost wet himself. "I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare!"
