I Got Married to a Yandere Queen-Chapter 43 - 42 - The Stolen Farewell
Chapter 43: Chapter 42 - The Stolen Farewell
Riven turned quickly toward the door as it creaked open, his heart pounding harder than usual. Deep inside, a small hope flickered—that the person entering was Anna. That the woman would step in with her usual calm yet cold gaze and give him an explanation for all the chaos that had happened.
But that hope was shattered instantly.
Instead, it was a middle-aged man, bald-headed, wearing a long brown robe lined with white cloth. His face was clean-shaven, his eyes gentle, and he wore a warm smile. In one hand he held a clipboard, and around his neck hung a light ivory stole—clearly marking him as a medical professional.
Riven rolled his eyes and cursed silently.
’Of course... a healer. Should’ve known. Fancy hospital, fancy checkups. Damn it.’
The man walked in without rushing and closed the door softly behind him. His eyes moved to Riven, who sat stiffly on the bed, then to Mira still sleeping soundly at his side.
"Good morning," said the man in a calm and polite voice. "Glad to see you awake, young man."
Riven gave a small nod, eyeing the man with a mix of suspicion and unease. He didn’t want to speak just yet. Not until he gathered more information.
"My name is Gregory," the man continued, walking closer. "I’m the healer here. Don’t worry, I just need to check your condition."
Gregory pulled a small chair from the corner of the room and sat beside the bed. He opened his clipboard, scribbled something quickly, then looked at Riven with an expression that could have belonged to a kind father.
"How are you feeling? Any pain in your chest or head?"
"A bit... dizzy," Riven replied honestly. "But my wounds... they’ve healed?"
Gregory smiled. "Your injuries were quite serious—especially the one on your chest. You lost a lot of blood. But a woman brought you here in critical condition. Had she been even a little late... you wouldn’t have survived. Luckily, we had enough potions to speed up your recovery. And your body responded very well."
’I almost died? From that?’ Riven frowned. ’Of course I could’ve died.’ Humans are fragile. He remembered that he was no Mage like Anna, no inhuman soldier from Arkham with a body that defied logic.
Then it hit him—Wait!
’Potions?’ He swallowed hard. ’High-grade healing potions? How many bottles did they use? How much do those cost?! Oh no...’
"And your sister... she never left your side," Gregory added, glancing at Mira who still slept soundly. "That girl is very stubborn. She refused to let us take over caring for you."
A warm feeling filled Riven’s chest. He looked at Mira with guilt and affection. But that warmth was short-lived—Gregory continued with a line that froze Riven mid-breath:
"Oh, and don’t worry about the treatment fees. The woman took care of all of it."
Riven murmured softly, "Anna..." and as the weight of his hospital bill vanished, a flood of relief washed over him. Half the mental burden gnawing at his nerves dissolved instantly.
’So I... don’t have to pay?’ He exhaled deeply, feeling both confused and grateful. Then he looked at Gregory more intently.
"Where is that woman now? Where are we? How long have I been unconscious? And what about the beast wave? And..." he hesitated briefly, uncertainty flickering in his eyes, before continuing, "Is she... alright? Was she hurt?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Gregory met Riven’s gaze calmly and nodded slowly.
"She’s perfectly fine," he said with a small smile. "She stayed with you the entire first day. Sat right there at your bedside without moving much, just watching over you closely. Like she didn’t want even the slightest error in your treatment."
Riven exhaled in relief, grateful she was unharmed. He remained silent, waiting for Gregory to continue.
"She left about eight hours ago," the healer added. "She looked a little worried, then hurried off. She hasn’t returned since."
Riven turned his gaze toward the window, as if hoping her silhouette might suddenly appear at the doorframe.
"You’re in Dorthlam now. A relatively safe city in the eastern part of the kingdom. Not too big, but quiet and secure. She brought you and your sister here two days ago, and you’ve been unconscious ever since. Almost a full two days."
Riven nodded slowly, absorbing each piece of information.
Dorthlam. A destination that should’ve taken them at least another day to reach. For them to be here now, the only explanation was that she carried them both with incredible speed.
"And... about the beast wave?" he asked again, his voice sharper.
Gregory shook his head slightly, his face honest but confused. "I’m not sure what you mean by ’wave.’ So far, there’s been no report from city guards or border patrols about any large-scale beast attacks. No disturbances, no casualties, no rumors at all."
Riven frowned. How could something that massive go unnoticed? Or... was someone deliberately covering it up?
Gregory added, "If you have no other complaints, I’ll return this evening for another check-up. But if you wish to talk more, or need anything... you can find me anytime."
Riven nodded. "Thank you, healer."
Gregory smiled, then exited the room quietly. The door closed behind him, leaving the room silent once more.
Riven took a long breath, eyes drifting back to the clean, serene ceiling. But his mind was far from calm.
Who are you, really... Anna?
Anna was gone.
They had already discussed it—once they reached Dorthlam, they would part ways. There were no promises to meet again, no agreements, no hopes shared. Just two strangers who happened to walk the same path... for a brief moment.
She had saved him. And in return, he had saved her. Their debts were repaid.
But even though logic accepted it, his heart refused.
They hadn’t known each other for long. Just a few days. And yet that encounter...
Something was missing.
Not something huge. Not a wound. But a small hollow space pressing at the corner of his heart, growing into a strange ache he couldn’t shake.
He never got to say thank you. Never had a proper farewell. Didn’t even know where to look if he wanted to see her again.
Touching the scar that remained on his chest, Riven sighed again. "Well... life goes on, right?" he muttered.
He rose carefully from the bed, moving slowly so as not to wake Mira still curled up beside him. He put on his clothes, gathered what little belongings he had left, and slung Crysthalis across his back. Though most of his gear was lost, the weapon alone gave him some comfort.
Even if his treatment was paid, he knew better than to linger too long. The longer he stayed, the more likely some new "hospital fee" might suddenly appear. He didn’t want a surprise bill just for taking up space.
With one last glance at Mira—making sure she still breathed peacefully—Riven stepped toward the open window, letting the breeze brush across his face.
The sun hung high in the sky. Dorthlam stretched out below—quiet, orderly, and unfamiliar.
As he prepared to leave the room, a strange heaviness settled in his chest. But stepping out now...
Might be the beginning of finding his answers.
