I Can Tame Everything!-Chapter 6: The First Companion
Chapter 6 - The First Companion
Rex leaped forward, tumbling into a roll as he finally entered the cave.
It was daytime, the warm air filled the cave, allowing him to see dimly in the low light.
"Huff... Huff..." His breaths came in ragged gasps, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he tried to steady himself.
Rex glanced around the cave nervously, his heart racing.
Then...
A sound echoed through the cave—sharp, faint, almost questioning.
"Krii—?"
Rex snapped his gaze toward the sound, his breath hitching in his throat as he discovered something...
Something he shouldn't have.
At first, he was surprised, but as realization hit him like a hammer—
A chill ran down his spine.
His body tensed, instincts screaming at him.
What he saw was a—Baby lightning bird!
Whoosh!
The lightning bird followed swiftly entering the cave.
..!
Shielding a smaller version of itself—A hatchling, it's eyes were even more regal than its parent's, a deeper shade of purple mixed with streaks of white. Its feathers shimmered in a brilliant violet hue.
Rex gazed at the towering lightning bird, standing twice his size. Its sharp purple eyes bore into him, radiating an undeniable menace.
Rex froze under the crushing mountainous pressure. He swallowed hard.
his hands... started trembling uncontrollably.
Clenching them tightly, he forced them behind his back, trying to regain control.
The only reason he didn't faint under the pressure was the beast's aura—it was identical to what he was used to, though far more overwhelming. Still, it was the same beastly presence he had grown familiar with.
Come out and protect me! Rex commanded urgently.
The Mud Hound, still within his Sanctuary, flickered into existence in its soul form.
Upon seeing the Hound, the Lightning Bird trembled slightly, fear flashing in her eyes. But as she took a closer look, her expression shifted. She crackled with amusement.
"Is that a Swampfang...? Ho—?" She stopped mid-sentence, shook her head, and with a flick of her wing, the Hound vanished.
Fear crept in. Deciding it was best to clear up any misunderstanding, Rex gathered his courage and spoke.
"I-I didn't know your b-baby was here," he stammered, his legs nearly giving out beneath him.
"I came here just to hide. P-promise. I... I have no intention of doing anything, really..."
He swallowed hard, his throat going dry.
His gaze flickered between the towering beast and its child, dread coiling in his chest. He forced the words out, barely a whisper.
"...to your child."
Rex fidgeted, choosing his words carefully. He spoke everything truthfully—one wrong move could very well cost him his life here.
The beast was far stronger than him—killing him would be effortless.
The lightning bird scanned him up and down.
Rex still struggled to control his trembling hands. At that moment, it didn't even occur to him to use [Eye of Tamer].
After contemplating for a few moments, the beast spoke.

"Human, I have no time to waste. Please help." Its tone was desperate yet firm.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to harm you; be at ease," it reassured Rex, its voice deep yet unexpectedly gentle, carrying an undeniable weight of authority.
"H-how can I help you? I'm very weak," Rex asked hesitantly, his voice barely above a whisper. His thoughts spiraled into worst-case scenarios. Is it going to throw me at its baby as a plaything?
"I do not have much time, so I'll explain briefly. This is my youngling," the mother beast said, pushing the small creature forward.
"The fiery jaguar seeks to devour my child. I tried to stop it, but it's far stronger than me. Please, take my child and save it." The beast spoke with a heavy heart, its eyes dull with exhaustion.
and continued...
"You don't have to worry about the jaguar chasing you," the beast said, its voice steady despite the weight of its words, eyes filled with both resolve and sorrow. It continued, "I'll use my life to distract it—use that chance."
The lightning beast didn't give him a moment to speak, showing desperation.
"B-but I—"
Rex was at a loss for words.
He was interrupted again.
"I don't have much time left," the mother pleaded, lowering her proud head.
"I... I'll even give you my blood essence," she whispered, her voice trembling.
However, Rex had no clue what 'blood essence' entailed. Yet, in her current state, for the mother beast, it was nothing less than a death sentence within a few hours.
She was already weak, and extracting blood essence in this state was nothing short of suicide.
With a long sigh, Rex finally relented.
"Fine. I'll save your child," Rex said, exhaling slowly.
The mother's face lit up with joy, and she leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with gratitude.
Yet, to him.
Those eyes—though dull—held a sharp, powerful pressure, and staring into them for a few moments made him feel weaker.
His body stiffened instinctively. "W-will the jaguar be able to sense me or the child?" he asked, stepping back without realizing.
The beast leaned back and nodded seriously.
"Yes, but it won't care about you. Its only target is my child—everything depends on you," she said firmly.
Although Rex agreed to save the child, it wasn't out of pity—he wasn't that kind of man. He had already pieced together a plan.
"Can you divert the jaguar's attention while I take the child?" Rex questioned after pondering for a few moments.
The beast nodded, its voice steady. "I can. And that is what I was going to do.
However... that would be useless," the beast replied calmly. "If my child is in this forest. The jaguar could easily sense its presence."
"What if it's not in this forest, then?" Rex asked, amusement flickering in his voice as he grinned mischievously, his fear shifting into newfound confidence.
"Then... it's possible," the mother said hesitatingly.
"I have a way to completely hide its presence. However, it's my first time attempting it," Rex confidently proposed.
"Do it," the mother responded without hesitation.
Rex scratched his cheek. "Uhh... well, I'll need to tame the beast for it to work," he said, trying to play it cool, his eyes avoiding hers.
The beast glared at him threateningly.
Rex gulped nervously and cleared his throat.
"I promise I won't hurt the beast. I'll treat your child as a close friend," Rex reassured with unwavering conviction, his words carrying an unexpected sincerity, and for some reason, he seemed trustworthy.
"...Alright. I'll help you tame my child," the mother murmured, her voice tinged with sadness and resignation.
"No need," Rex replied, shaking his head.
He took slow, cautious steps toward the young beast, activating [Eye of Tamer] to assess its status.

[Name: Arcalis]
[Entity: Beast]
[Species: Thunderblaze]
[Bloodline: Skywrath Lineage]
[Rank: Spirit Rank 2-Stars]
[Potential: B]
[Would you like to tame {Arcalis} - Y/N]

"Oh," he muttered, a smile tugging at his lips. He hadn't expected it to be a 2-star ranked beast.
Was the mother protecting me from this young beast? He smiled wryly as the thought sank in.
Rex was about to command the system to tame the young beast when he paused, noticing a prompt already awaiting his confirmation.
Yes.
[Progress 10%]
[Progress 70%]
[Progress 100%]
"Woah—That was fast," Rex muttered, a hint of excitement flashing in his eyes.
Noticing Rex's reaction, the mother beast chimed in, "What happened?"
"The taming is complete," he said with a bright smile.
"Then erase its presence," the mother urged, impatience creeping into her tone.
"Okay, but don't be alarmed. It'll be stored in a separate space," Rex explained cautiously, fearing she might lash out if her child suddenly vanished.
The lightning beast gave a curt nod, refraining from probing further. She shifted her gaze to her child, eyes filled with sorrow and longing.
Except...
Things were never that simple or easy, were they?
System, Store the beast.
Rex casually commanded the system to store the beast in [Tamer's Sanctuary].
Yet, the false confidence he had built collapsed with a single reply from the system.
