Chapter 27: Chapter 27 Assassinating Xu (Part 2) Please Follow for More Updates
Thinking about killing Manager Xu, Tian Lin felt inexplicably excited.
However, perhaps due to excessive nervousness, in the following two days, he relied solely on the 'Serenity Fruit' to calm his mind for cultivation.
But by this time, the Soul Burying Pollen could hardly help him increase his cultivation anymore.
If not for the Soul Burying Pollen's minimal effects, Tian Lin would have preferred to enhance his cultivation to the Grandmaster Level before making a move against Manager Xu, which would have been more assuring.
"Brother Tian, are you also a Huahua Lang?"
Inside the small courtyard, Tian Lin sat a zhang away from the little tavern maid.
One was washing clothes for the guests, while the other was 'hiss hiss' sharpening a knife.
Hearing the tavern maid suddenly speak up, Tian Lin came back to his senses and said, "I am also a Huahua Lang."
The tavern maid said, "Go home, what's so good about being a Huahua Lang? Living in the wind, sleeping in the dew, lonely and miserable."
Tian Lin turned his head to look at the tavern maid; she was not much older than himself, yet she had the air of someone who had been through life's experiences.
Tian Lin withdrew his gaze, continuing to feel the knife in his hand, and simply said:
"Why don't you go back? I know you've been searching for your husband, but you don't know where he is. Continuing this way, when will there be an end?"
The tavern maid said, "I'm still young, and have decades of time to look for him. Don't think I am only a few years older than you, I've already traveled to most places across the vast lands, and believe it won't be long before I find him."
Tian Lin didn't continue the conversation; at this moment, the figure of Zhang Laoda emerged from the tavern hall.
Seeing Tian Lin, Zhang Laoda smiled and said, "The deed is done, Manager Xu will be here tomorrow."
Unexpectedly, the tavern maid suddenly asked Zhang Laoda, "Manager Xu, is it the same Manager Xu from the merchant's mining site?"
Zhang Laoda's hand quietly moved toward the hilt of his knife, but his face remained filled with a smiling expression as he looked at the tavern maid: "What, you know Manager Xu?"
The tavern maid shook her head, saying, "I heard that the merchant serves the Yao Yue Sect, so that Manager Xu must surely know the Immortal Masters of the Yao Yue Sect, right?"
The tavern maid's face was full of hope, eliciting an even brighter smile from Zhang Laoda.
Zhang Laoda slowly approached the tavern maid while saying, "Indeed, the young master of the merchant family is an Immortal Master of the Yao Yue Sect, Manager Xu certainly knows him."
At this point, there was no need for Zhang Laoda to be near the tavern maid when she suddenly stood up from her stool, crossing the wooden basin to speak to Zhang Laoda:
"Hero Zhang, you must know Manager Xu, right? I'm begging you to do me a favor, could you please inquire whether my husband has entered the Yao Yue Sect."
While speaking, she pulled a bundle of money from her apron.
Just as the tavern maid was handing over the money wrapped in a handkerchief to Zhang Laoda, his knife had already been drawn halfway.
Tian Lin, seeing Zhang Laoda about to silence the witness by killing her, quickly held down the handle of Zhang Laoda's knife.
Faced with Zhang Laoda's puzzled look, Tian Lin smiled and said, "Big brother's knife has rusted, let me help you sharpen it."
At this moment, the tavern maid spoke, "Let me do it, I'll sharpen the knife."
Zhang Laoda smiled and took the money from the tavern maid's left hand, handing her the knife with his right hand: "Sharpen it well, I will help you plead with Manager Xu tomorrow."

After saying this, Zhang Laoda pulled Tian Lin into the house.
While serving himself tea, he said, "Brother, are you longing for a woman?"
Tian Lin replied, "Big brother, if you truly wanted to keep it a secret, you shouldn't have mentioned Manager Xu in front of her. Since Manager Xu was brought up in front of her, you can't just kill someone because of your own mistake."
Zhang Laoda smiled and said, "My apologies for being too excited. Seeing that tomorrow I will have my desire fulfilled, it's inevitable that I become careless."
He drank the tea and frowned, saying, "So we leave this young lady alive?"
"Just spin some tale tomorrow and send her away."
Early the next morning, Tian Lin tossed the tavern maid's money back to her and said, "Manager Xu won't be coming to the tavern today; he has to escort the mining site's black sandstones to the Yao Yue Sect. If you truly want to find him, just wait on the official road outside of the town."
The tavern maid, having waited all night, was thrilled. She tried to stuff the money from her handkerchief back into Tian Lin's hands but was stopped by him.
"Hurry and leave, Manager Xu might be setting off right now. If you miss this chance, it'll be very difficult to encounter him again."
"Brother Tian, thank you. When I find my husband, I will surely thank you properly."
She bowed several times to Tian Lin's departing figure then went back to her room to pack her things.
Tian Lin didn't pay any further attention to the tavern maid but waited in the courtyard for Zhang Laoda.
Not much later, Zhang Laoda descended from the third floor of the tavern, came back to the small courtyard, and said to Tian Lin, "I've already asked the servant to prepare the meal, now we just wait for Manager Xu to arrive."
Tian Lin asked Zhang Laoda, "What if he refuses to drink later?"
Zhang Laoda's face turned fierce, and he touched the white incense bag at his waist: "If he won't drink, then I'll scatter the Soul Burying Pollen, and nobody will get off easy."
A chill passed through Tian Lin's heart as he glanced at the incense bag at Zhang Laoda's waist.
"Let's go, we'll welcome him on the street."
As Zhang Laoda spoke, he walked outside, and after a moment's thought, Tian Lin went to Zhang Laoda's room and carried most of the bag of Soul Burying Pollen up to the third floor.
When he came back downstairs, Zhang Laoda was already standing at the entrance of the street.
Before long, a horse-drawn carriage could be seen approaching from a distance.
The two-wheeled carriage wasn't large, but due to the crowded streets, it moved extraordinarily slowly.
The driver, a black-clad youth with a knife at his waist, didn't whip the horses but instead struck out at the people blocking the way.
In the midst of chaos, the carriage slowly made its way to the tavern. Manager Xu's face bore a smile outside the carriage, his steps steady and calm.
Tian Lin exchanged looks with Boss Zhang, clueless why Manager Xu, having brought a carriage, chose not to ride inside it.
Could there be an even more distinguished guest inside the carriage? One that required Manager Xu to serve on foot?
"You two have struck it rich outside, thinking of paying respects to me now?"
The carriage stopped at the tavern entrance where Manager Xu, stroking his beard, smiled intently at Boss Zhang and Tian Lin.
By now, Boss Zhang had regained his composure, smiling as he said, "What fortunes could we brothers come by? If any, it's all thanks to the opportunities provided by Manager Xu."
Having said that, he addressed the 'driver' who had alighted from the carriage, "This must be Brother Tongsha, right? Among the brethren at the mine, you're the only one we haven't met."
Tongsha, however, ignored Boss Zhang, staring directly at Tian Lin, "Did you kill Supervisor You?"
Sensing malice, Tian Lin feigned calm, "He tried to kill me, so I killed him in return. If you desire revenge, come find me anytime."
Boss Zhang protected Tian Lin behind him, gesturing courteously to Tongsha, "Brother Tongsha, today we are specially hosting Manager Xu. Let's talk another day about any issues, so as not to spoil Manager Xu's mood for wine."
Manager Xu burst into laughter, "Indeed, I haven't had a drop this morning and am terribly thirsty. Is our private dining room ready? Take me upstairs now!"
Boss Zhang led the way upstairs with Manager Xu, followed closely by Tian Lin and Tongsha.
As the waiter moved to pull the carriage, Tongsha suddenly turned and warned, "Leave the carriage as it is, untouched. If it gets scratched or dented, you probably won't be able to afford the compensation."
This remark put Tian Lin on higher alert, but now heading upstairs, the carriage's true contents remained concealed.
Reaching the third floor, Manager Xu pushed the door open, following Boss Zhang into the room only after he entered.
Looking at the table full of food and drink, Manager Xu quipped, "You two brothers must have come into a large sum to afford such a spread for me."
"If Manager Xu enjoys it, then feel free to drink a few more glasses."
Boss Zhang finished, then turned to Tian Lin, "Please invite Brother Tongsha to join us as well."
Tongsha stood silent while Tian Lin assisted Manager Xu to a seat by the window.
Manager Xu lifted his robe to sit down, gazing out the window, he whimsically remarked, "This place, with its small courtyard and pond, would make an excellent burial ground."
Boss Zhang nearly spilled his wine at that statement.
Smiling as he offered the wine to Manager Xu, he muttered, "This place is too noisy, hardly a precious spot for feng shui."
Manager Xu took the wine but placed it by Tian Lin's seat.
Sighing, he said, "I've been drinking with the young master these past two days, so I'm not much in the mood for wine."
Boss Zhang served dishes to Manager Xu, suggesting, "If you're not drinking, at least have some food, Manager Xu."
Manager Xu eyed the meat in his bowl and chuckled again, "Like I said, I've been eating well with the young master, so my appetite isn't great either."
Boss Zhang could sit still no longer, maintaining a smile but with serious undertones, he asked, "If Manager Xu neither eats nor drinks, why agree to a banquet?"
Manager Xu remained silent, but Tongsha, seated beside, drew his knife with a cold smile, "I accompanied Manager Xu here to see what you're playing at with your sneaky schemes."
Tian Lin calmly stood, fixing his gaze on Tongsha, "What do you believe we could be scheming?"
"Heh, no more pretense from you two. At this point, what's left to hide?"
Tongsha looked at Tian Lin and Boss Zhang with scorn, "Your dear third brother spilled your secrets to Manager Xu just a few days after you left."
Tian Lin turned his gaze to Boss Zhang.
Initially, he had ordered Boss Zhang to kill the Liu brothers because he couldn't trust them.
But Boss Zhang wanted to keep Da Liu to secure a foothold in the mine.
Indeed, through Da Liu's assistance, Tian Lin no longer feared the Obstacle Challenge and could boldly confront other supervisors in their quarters.
As Da Liu had always been good to Tian Lin, and despite his dislike for Xiao Liu, how could he suggest killing Xiao Liu?
"Alas, it seems the issue originated from choosing the 'servant disciple'."
Boss Zhang said, "I didn't expect that giving the chance to be a servant disciple to his brother, and allowing him to practice the Immortal Technique, wouldn't satisfy him."
"People are never content," said Manager Xu. "Don't blame him; he also hesitated several days about betraying you."
The moment Manager Xu stopped speaking, Boss Zhang quickly untied the incense bag from his waist and flung it at Manager Xu.
Manager Xu scoffed and swatted away a cloud of Soul Burying Pollen with a forceful gesture of his hand.
Everyone in the room covered their noses to avoid breathing in, except Tian Lin.
With a 'bang', Boss Zhang scattering the Soul Burying Pollen was just a distraction. As Manager Xu covered his face, Boss Zhang had already burst through the room's screen and kicked the door open to escape.
Manager Xu, unable to verbally react, certainly wouldn't let Boss Zhang go.
He signaled Tongsha with a glance and then himself dashed out of the room.
Tongsha swung his knife at Tian Lin, but despite being a second-tier expert, he failed to anticipate Tian Lin's ascent to first-tier ranks.
'Puff', disbelief etched on his face, Tongsha clutched his throat, both man and blade collapsing to the floor.
Tian Lin, hearing footsteps, hastily grabbed the corner's Soul Burying Pollen and leaped from the third-floor window back into the courtyard.
He had just landed when he heard Manager Xu's voice, "Clever boy, I hadn't expected you to reach the realm of a first-tier expert."
Turning, Tian Lin saw Manager Xu, bloodied, standing on the wooden veranda of the third floor.
And on his back, Boss Zhang stared with furious, wide eyes, clinging deathly to Manager Xu.
Hearing Boss Zhang shout, "Younger brother, I can't run; you must escape!"
