I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 242: Result
The result of the battle was indeed what everyone had expected. However, the process in between was not something they thought would happen.
Simon indeed won and became the freshmen summoner champion, but at what cost?
As for the Gold Coins that Miguel had lost from the bet, he did not take it to heart and just thought of it as him losing money while walking. It was just spare change for the current him anyway.
The next battle was between the two martial artists from the freshmen division.
Two young men wielding a sword and burly in appearance appear on the stage after being called by the judge.
As the two of them were of similar strength. It was decided that their battle would become the main event of today’s competition. Both of them were Intermediate Novice Martial Artists.
In the grand scheme of things, such strength was irrelevant and was quite weak.
However, in the Blazing City and in the academy, both of them were already considered geniuses that could defeat opponents of the same level with ease.
Intermediate Novice Martial Artists could defeat Normal Grade Level 2 Beasts. With them being geniuses, even killing Level 3 beasts were doable and were not out of the question. One must note that they were doing this with their own body, and not with the assistance of summoned beasts.
As the judge signaled the start of the battle, the two youngsters immediately yelled at the top of their lungs and charged forward with indomitable will.
A fight between two martial artists was unlike that of any other.
Strike after strike of their sword were exchanged between the two parties. None wanted the other to get the upper hand as they parried and dodged the opponent’s attack.
In a battle between two opponents of the same expertise and strength, one would need to search for the right opportunity to strike and deal a lethal blow.
Miguel’s eyes were glued in the battle. He had seen countless fights more fierce than this but this does not demirate the fact that the fight he was witnessing right now was also intense in its own right.
A slight mishap and wrong move will cost you the battle. Both fighters were focused. None of the two dared to get distracted.
With his experiences, Miguel saw through each of their moves easily. His eyes were glued in interest at the ongoing fight.
Suddenly, Miguel saw a glint appearing in the eyes of one of them.
An opportunity presented itself.
The young man did not dawdle and immediately struck while the iron was hot.
He twisted his sword from below and struck from a direction that his opponent did not expect.
His opponent’s eyes widened in surprise and could only retreat in anger.
"Shameless!" He shouted as his hand pressed his stomach that now has a huge horizontal wound on it.
His opponent grinned, only answering with another strike and a slash to the waist.
With the wound on his stomach, the previous equal battle had become a one sided match with one attack frequently while the other trying to defend.
It did not take long for the match to come to an end. The man who managed to wound his opponent first was the eventual winner and he would be the one to face Simon in tomorrow’s match for the freshmen overall championship.
The crowd began to leave one after the other.
For them, although the last match was indeed intense and exciting, it still could not compare to Simon and Gasper’s fight earlier.
That fight was full of excitement to the point that the audience felt that they were about to die, especially those who sat at the front row.
Miguel also stood up from his seat along with the two women.
Before he could get far, he saw Damian approaching him along with Simon and some of the Red Family elders that he was familiar with.
Miguel nodded towards them as a greeting, knowing what they came for.
Damian bowed to Miguel and released a sigh of gratitude, "We are here to express our deepest apologies and gratitude to Elder Journey for solving the troubles that Simon caused during the match earlier."
The other elders echoed right after as all of them nodded their heads while Simon just had his head hang low, feeling embarrassed about his actions that led to that accident earlier.
Although he had already expressed his thanks earlier, he still did not think that it was enough of a repayment to Elder Journey.
Miguel nodded his head as he waved his hands, "No matter. What’s done is already done. We should not get too hung up about such troubles and just focus on improving ourselves to better our strength moving forward," he said while taking a short glance at Simon.
Simon saw that and could not help but clench his fist as he nodded gratefully. He knew that Elder Journey was saying it for him. He planned to take the advice wholeheartedly and improve himself from now on.
For Miguel, the words were only meant to console the genius Simon. However, it has a different meaning for Simon who was struggling internally at the moment.
Miguel did not think too much of Simon either.
Even though Simon only has a little bit of strength right now, Miguel doesn’t underestimate him. Geniuses were called geniuses for a reason after all.
In his mind, Simon was a figure that Gasper needed to surpass if he wanted to improve.
As for Gasper himself, Miguel already planned to train him more. He shows promise in terms of combat and attitude. Part of the reason was also because he felt that he could have become more if the necklace had stayed in his hands.
After Damian and the other elders left, Miguel and the two went directly to Maras Tavern to get something to eat.
It was already dusk when all of the matches were settled.
It was also during this time that the market and every business was pretty busy, including Maras Tavern itself.
Upon entry, Miguel immediately noticed that there were more people than usual.
Though surprisingly enough, Maras was not the one sitting on the counter at this moment.
