I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 60: Unable to retort
Chapter 60: Unable to retort
When you do something repeatedly, it becomes an instinct. So Ravi took the emotion and buried it so deep in the creases of his heart that it might as well not exist.
He took a deep breath and looked up to see Arlen looking at him.
"I will take my leave now, Ma’am. Thank you for your cooperation." He bowed slightly and waved goodbye to the woman who smiled at him.
"Haha! It is no problem. Please come again." She escorted him out of the one store building with a cream and blue painting, a small black gate and a small yard. They were so similar that they looked like they might have been printed by a photocopying machine.
They walked out of the gate, Ravi closed the note and switched off the voice recording.
"What were you thinking about so hard?" Arlen asked, he turned to him, flicking his head.
"Ouch!" Ravi muttered even though it did not hurt.
Arlen smiled and his thumb that was on Ravi’s forehead rubbed the spot slowly, "Sorry, Did I hit you that hard?" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
His finger was long and warm, it sent a shudder down Ravi’s spine and he drew away immediately as if burned.
Arlen rubbed his fingers, Ravi’s skin was silky smooth like satin and had a cool temperature. Arlen wanted to touch it again but the owner of the skin was six meters away from him. With eyes filled with disappointment, he dropped his hands.
"So what was it?"
Ravi felt as if his heart was about to leap out from his chest. It pounded violently, like his brain had been switched for a drum. A drum that was leading a village to dance at the moonlight festival, "What was what?" He could not concentrate on what this person was saying, why did he almost get distracted whenever he was with Arlen. It was so embarrassing.
"What were you thinking so deeply about?"
"I was wondering if it is okay for me to be selfish." He said it. Out loud. Did the Egg fried rice have some alcohol he was not aware of? Otherwise what was so wrong with him today and why would he ever initiate this discussion with Arlen. Arlen was the most selfless person that he had ever met.
"Do you want to change?" They were walking down to the car and Arlen stopped to look at him.
"Change?"
"Well, you are the most selfish person I have ever met. You clock out when you are done with your work, you have never asked your partner if she needs any help. You don’t do anything you do not want to and Hell, you ignore people like they are not standing in front of you..."
Ravi lowered his head, he drummed his fingers on his trousers as he bit his lips, "Ah! It turns out that this was what Arlen thinks about him. It was true, of course and he usually did not care how others perceived him but there was a suffocation in his chest that became harder to bear each growing second.
The trees of Chitin Street had already started to bloom, small little leaves that signaled that winter had passed, but Ravi felt as if winter had started coming for him.
It was so annoying, the man’s thoughts and behavior dictated his mood. He needed to do something about it.
"I think it is cool." Arlen finished and his eyes widened, "Why are you so pale? You said you had breakfast, right. You should have lunch now, it is already after twelve."
"Cool?" He was confused, what was this person saying now? Cool. He slightly pinched his thigh- it hurt.
Arlen realized what he was talking about and rubbed his hair looking away for a while, "I grew up in a house of superheroes. My dad told me that the reason I was born with such strength was so that I could protect the weak. I guess I learned to be kind but often, I am inconvenienced so that someone can be happy and I..don’t really know to say No. I like helping people, it is just...well..." He smiled and turned to Ravi, the tips of his ears hidden by his golden curls were a bright red, " I think Ravi." He whispered his name like it is a secret between the two of them, "Is really cool. I admire that aspect of you so much."
"..."
He..Arlen admired him for being selfish. He looked at those pairs of sincere blue eyes. He was telling the truth.
The sides of his lips couldn’t help but twitch into a smile.
When he was very little around six years old, there was this new sister that came to the orphanage. She was tall, with brown hair and cold green eyes but she was kind to them. Everyday after doing their chores, she would give them a green candy, it was so sweet.
It had been more than 500 years but Ravi felt as if that candy had seeped into his heart, a sickeningly sweet feeling seemed to envelope his entire being.
"Why does it seem as if you are glowing even more than usual? My eyes." Arlen raised his hand as if to protect his eyes. Ravi could not control his laughter and his shoulder shook.
Seeing that he was laughing, Arlen laughed in turn, "This fan can not look at your beauty any more. My idol, let’s go and have lunch. We have a lot of work today."
He did not expect Ravi to lean closer to him with a smile.
"Well, this idol gives you the permission to look as much as you want." He was so close that Arlen could see the shadows of his thick, fan-shaped eyelashes. Those thin and slightly curled eyes bent even further, looking so charming. It was the first time Arlen was seeing his smile from such a close distance.
He swallowed before he finally understood the words that Ravi said.
He evaded those compelling hazel eyes, the tips of his ears bright red.
Arlen had never imagined that one day, he would lose at teasing someone and he would not even be able to retort. What he could not imagine even more was that one day, he, the one who enchanted others would be mesmerized by another’s appearance that he would not be able to say a word.
