I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 61: Praise me
Chapter 61: Praise me
They soon reached the burnt house, Sarah and Draco were already there, leaning against the police vehicle.
Draco was squatting down, there was a layer of sweat on his forehead. All morning, he had been running around houses, checking cameras and interviewing the residents.
"And I have not even had breakfast, I am so dizzy that I want to faint." He muttered
"Don’t." Ravi said and Draco turned back so quickly, his image blurring slightly.
"You are back." He wanted to pat Ravi on the back then he recalled their one sided rivalry and held himself. He looked him up and down, "Something about changed. I can’t tell. Did you change your hairstyle?"
Sarah slapped her left palm on her forehead and walked towards Ravi pulling him into a hug, "I am glad that you are feeling better. Welcome back. Don’t mind Draco, you look good."
"Hey!" Draco shouted.
Now, that was odd. He and Sarah were not enemies or in a one side rivalry like Draco but he did not think that she would hug him.
"Everyone in the office missed you terribly." Arlen said with a light smile, "I mean it."
He would rather eat fried bread than believe that.
Sarah chuckled at Ravi’s expression. The Captain had not lied, who knew she would have missed this surly face.
"Captain, we interviewed over 30 residents about the Micheal family. It turns out that the Micheal had had complaints from the Neighborhood management over their noise."
"Noise complaints."
"Yes. It is a grill and bar, they hire a dj or live musician on weekends and the owner, Mary, refused to renovate and use noise canceling doors."
"Those doors are so expensive yet they were saying it like it was a roll of cabbage on the road." Draco muttered. He was visibly offended. That hit him a little close to home, his parents ran a very popular restaurant after all and they would have such complaints from neighbors at times.
"Draco, be careful not to bring personal bias when investigating." Arlen cautioned lightly and Draco nodded obediently.
"What else?"
Sarah thought for a while, "Mary, the person that handled the grill had a complicated marriage and she is in the middle of a divorce. They said that there was some argument and her wife left town with her luggage in the middle of the day."
"Did they say what the argument was about?"
"The Grill. Apparently her wife wanted her to sell the grill but she refused." He yawned again, "Surely it is not the wife that burnt down the grill because Mary refused to sell it." He blinked.
’Let’s just keep our options open. We can not do much when forensics and the fire brigade has not determined the cause of the fire yet." Arlen said, looking around.
Draco nodded yawning, "Yes. Yes. It can all be an accident. Heaven, let it be an accident. What! I rather it be an accident. I don’t want to imagine that someone who burned anm entire building with three people inside is walking freely on the road." He shivered. They had just finished a case, he did not want to handle any quest so soon.
It was completely intentional. No, it was not just intentional, it was done by someone with ability. The person might have amazing control but there were remnants of energy, cosmic energy or the Super gene, like the government liked to call it, the scent was still in the air.
Ravi did not have any intention to tell his colleagues or Arlen about that. There was the fact that he would get into more trouble because he could not prove how he knew that delicate information and there was the more important fact that he did not want to interfere. Someone who can burn a building with three people inside, what about the youth who had the killing intent of someone who had killed more than five thousand people in his very short life.
Dangerous people were everywhere. Look at him, an incarnation was staying next door to him.
"Officer Brown, besides the surveillance here, look around the perimeter, there is a junction. Obtain the surveillance 48 hours before the camera." ƒreewebɳovel.com
"Roger."
"Officer Adams. You would meet up with the Forensic Officer that is coming from the main bureau." He smiled with a hint of pride, "I invited one to work with us thrice a week."
"Captain. That is amazing. You are the best." Draco flattered shamelessly, the remaining thing was to say that Arlen was the moon in the sky and the sugar in his tea.
Ravi lowered his head in embarrassment.
"Not just a forensic doctor. I also met up with the Davenport Community College for one of their professors to consult with our bureau."
Sarah smiled, "That is a great Captain."
"That is amazing, Captain. Just amazing." Draco started his five minute praise. For someone who claimed that he was so tired and that he had not eaten since morning, he sure talked a lot.
Arlen faced him, his expression was like a puppy who had fetched a ball and returned for a treat.
Ravi’s lips twitched, "Good job, Captain." Seeing that everyone was looking at him as if expecting him to say more. He rolled his eyes and started walking to the bureau’s sedan.
Arlen chuckled, "Officer West and I would go to the hospital to interview Mary Micheals. Sergeant Tom called earlier to tell us that she had woken up."
"We would meet in the Bureau for a meeting by 3p.m."
"Yes, Captain." They said simultaneously before leaving.
Ravi inserted the key and turned to Arlen, "Davenport Hospital?"
Arlen put on his seat belt and rubbed his eyes, he had been up since 3a.m in the morning, "No, Just drive us to a quiet restaurant. You need to eat. I am hungry too. We would go after lunch. I would take a five minute nap. Wake me up when we get there." He adjusted the seat and closed his eyes, soon dozing off.
He was sleeping, Ravi drove gently and parked under a tree. He looked over the Captain who was sleeping peacefully. His face when he was sleeping was much softer, youthful. Those golden curls looked well-behaved as they rested on his forehead.
His fingers twitched. He wanted to touch it. Was it as soft as it looked?
