Hold On Mr.! Your Sweetheart is a Real Queen-Chapter 690: I’m very good at fighting.
The white youths who were teasing her with small stones changed their expressions when they saw Edward Stephens come out. Among them, the man who had been hit by Edward with a stone spat a mouthful of bloody spit onto the ground, where Daisy Ginger saw a tooth wrapped in the blood.
Seeing the tooth, the man’s expression changed, and he immediately clenched his fist and was about to rush over, but was held back by the others behind him.
"..." Daisy was guarded behind Edward, her gaze wandering over those people’s faces, feeling somewhat strange inside.
It was obvious that these men were afraid of Edward.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have stopped their man from going forward even after Edward had made someone spit up blood with a stone. It was to prevent the conflict from escalating.
The man stood in front of her, tall and imposing, his shadow completely enveloping her petite figure.
The anger from being teased subsided a bit due to his presence. She lightly tugged at the man’s clothing, whispering, "Let it go."
After all, this wasn’t Edward’s territory. If things really got out of hand, the town’s people might protect their own, and Edward couldn’t fight off so many at once.
Edward, with a grim face, didn’t heed her words and instead took another step outside.
The men paled when they saw him approach, and they all stared at him intently.
It was surprising that the group of men was more nervous than Edward.
Daisy didn’t know what Edward had done in this town, but she didn’t want to watch him cause trouble for her. She stepped forward and grabbed his wrist, quietly urging, "Stop. I’m fine."
The cold-faced man lowered his gaze to his wrist, held by Daisy, and softly said to her, "I won’t lose."
"...It’s not about winning or losing," Daisy replied with difficulty.
The man added, "I’m really good at fighting."
So now, is he intentionally trying to show off to her?
A man over thirty, does he have to be so childish...?
Daisy tugged at his hand, "Alright. Let’s go back."
While the two of them were pulling each other, a small figure strolled over from a nearby path. Daisy, hearing footsteps, instinctively looked over and saw Irene carrying a basket, heading back their way.
Afraid she would walk into the scene, Daisy called out, "Irene, don’t come over!"
Irene, hearing the voice, looked up and glanced over. Her pretty face turned pale in an instant.
She stood there trembling, not moving an inch, her eyes filled with panic as she looked towards them.
The group of men saw her, and strange expressions appeared on their faces, while Edward’s face turned even more terrifying as he spat out a word: "Scram!"
"..."
Without hesitation, the men quickly looked away, leaving dejectedly in pairs.
Edward, with a grim face, walked over and led Irene back from the road, closing the door behind them.
Irene’s small chest heaved rapidly, her breathing quick. Her delicate little face was covered in cold sweat, and she clung tightly to Edward’s hand, like a drowning person grabbing a life-saving driftwood.
"As long as I’m here, no one will dare bully you." He raised a hand, gently tousling her hair in a comforting manner.
Irene looked up, her face pale, gazing at Edward. She couldn’t speak, but her eyes, seemingly able to talk, were filled with terror and trust. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"..." Daisy went over and poured a cup of hot water for Irene, then looked up at Edward.
Somehow, she felt...
Something happened between Edward and Irene in this town that she didn’t know about...
Edward took the hot water and handed it to Irene, telling her, "Go upstairs and rest."
Irene lowered her gaze, timidly nodded, and, cradling the cup, slowly went upstairs.
After Irene left, the man finally spoke to her, "Irene has the mind of a thirteen-year-old."
"Oh..." Daisy nodded and then asked in confusion, "Why are you telling me this?"
"To prevent any unnecessary misunderstandings," he told her solemnly.
"..."
Daisy was speechless.
She rolled her eyes at him and went to sit down on the couch, "What’s with Irene?"
Edward poured himself a cup of water and drank it slowly, "Although she has the mind of a thirteen-year-old, she’s actually twenty-three."
"When I got here, I saw those men assaulting her." He casually stated, shocking Daisy with his words, "I stepped in and taught them a lesson."
A mute girl with the mind of a thirteen-year-old, but a mature woman’s body, unable to speak or call for help, in this town, she really was like a lamb to the slaughter.
From what Edward said, Daisy understood Irene’s situation in this town.
She didn’t feel much about Irene’s dependence on Edward, but after hearing the story, her mood was a bit heavy.
She couldn’t really comment on it; places like these, isolated and remote, were breeding grounds for such crimes.
"Her mother doesn’t care about her?" Daisy remembered Irene was the daughter of his landlady.
At the very least, a mother would care for her own daughter, right?
Edward glanced at her, "Having a mentally impaired child is already shameful. Do you think she would care?" He sat beside her casually, "I only employed her as a maid because I pitied her."
"Oh..." Daisy’s feelings were complex. She glanced at the man, "I didn’t take you for someone with such a sense of justice."
Edward chuckled in exasperation, tapping her forehead lightly, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Is it because you saved her that people are afraid of you?" Daisy remembered the men in the bar seemed afraid of Edward too, a bit curious.
The man said, "I told you, I’m really good at fighting."
Daisy gave him a light scoff, looking at his skinny limbs.
"After saving Irene, some people did come looking for trouble. But there aren’t many people here, and they couldn’t beat me. Eventually, they all let it drop."
Daisy imagined Edward arriving in the town and becoming invincible, and couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
But she could understand.
Coming from a wild background, how could they possibly beat someone professionally trained since childhood?
She turned her head, smiling at the man, "You coming here was a good thing."
No matter how long Irene had been bullied in the town, at least from now on, no one would dare to harm her.
The man looked at her smiling face, squinting slightly as he watched her for a while.
After a moment, his Adam’s apple bobbed just a bit.
"I’m really good at fighting."
"Hmm?"
"I’m really good at fighting in bed too."
"......" Daisy stood up from the couch, watching him warily, "What are you trying to do?"
