Chapter 689: Sad

Daisy’s breath caught slightly; she clenched the spoon in her hand and lowered her voice, hoarse: "You never asked me what I wanted."

The man chuckled lightly, saying nothing.

Silence fell over the small restaurant.

"I’m full."

She put down the spoon and stood up, addressing the man.

The man lifted his head and glanced at her; he seemed to smile slightly, but the smile was faint.

...

Daisy sat on the steps, hugging her legs and soaking in the sun.

She felt somewhat uncomfortable.

[I’ve spent eight years doing things I don’t want to do; now, I want to do something I truly like.]

Was she too demanding of him...

She never thought about what he should do for her; after the relationship was established, she wanted something simple, merely mutual trust and genuine affection.

But he deceived her for four whole years.

Even though he explained to her, her pride couldn’t accept it.

Why couldn’t he just tell her?

If he’d just told her a little bit, these years...

She and Erin wouldn’t have suffered so much.

Clearly...

She trusted him too, and if he had been honest, she would have been willing to leave.

But instead, he conspired with so many people to deceive her like this.

Daisy lowered her head, burying her face in her knees, exhaling softly.

She truly felt that she couldn’t trust this man anymore.

However, hearing him pitifully recounting his hardships and grievances of the past eight years, she couldn’t remain unmoved.

Daisy turned her head slightly, glancing behind her.

The man was slowly walking out of the restaurant and looked at her upon sensing her gaze.

She quickly withdrew her gaze, feeling a bit irritated, and hummed softly.

*

She was gently poked on the back, thinking it was Edward, she ignored it.

Then, she was poked gently two more times.

"You..."

Feeling somewhat annoyed, she turned around and met Irene’s big, doe-like eyes.

Perhaps because she was too fierce, Irene flinched and stepped back a few steps, looking at her timidly.

"What’s wrong with you?"

Daisy composed herself.

Irene cautiously reached out her hand.

In her hand were the medicines Daisy had been taking these past few days.

"Did he ask you to come over?"

Irene nodded.

"Thank you." She stood up and took them.

Her mind was cluttered with Edward’s name, and she had forgotten to take her medicine.

After Daisy took her medicine, she watched Irene breathe a sigh of relief and run over to report to Edward.

She seemed quite dependent on that man.

Clearly...

They hadn’t spent much time together, right?

Daisy pursed her lips, feeling a strange emotion inside, somewhat uncomfortable.

She hugged her legs and sat on the steps sunbathing, after a while, a small pebble lightly hit her calf.

Looking up, Daisy saw several Americans standing not far away, smiling at her.

"..."

She picked up a pebble, wanting to throw it back, but fearing trouble here, she held back.

She got up, planning to head back, when a small stone hit her hip.

Daisy’s face turned black instantly.

Damn, does this trashy place harbor hooligans everywhere?

Seeing her displeased expression, those men seemed to delight in the spectacle, laughing even more arrogantly.

She bore it, clutching the pebble and walking back, suddenly someone pulled her, snatching the stone from her hand, and a man’s cry of pain sounded from across.

Looking up, Daisy saw Edward, not knowing when he’d arrived, with a fierce look on his face, throwing the stone at the opposite man’s face.
