Chapter 70 - Who Is the Man You’re Marrying

Shuri usually drove to work, but today was different.

Noticing her fatigue, Noran had insisted on fetching her.

Now, as the luxury car glided through the morning traffic, Shuri found herself nestled against Noran's shoulder in the spacious backseat, the plush leather seat cradling her tired body.

A yawn escaped her lips, drawing Noran's concerned gaze.

He squeezed her hand gently. "Why don't you take a break from work today? You look exhausted."

Shuri's lips quirked into a playful smile as she pinched his hand in return. "And whose fault is that?"

Though she'd thoroughly enjoyed their passionate intimacy after so long apart, Shuri's body ached in ways she'd never experienced before.

This life's first sexual experience had been more intense than she'd anticipated.

She was lying when she told Noran that she wasn't in pain as every movement sent a dull throb through her muscles.

Still, she didn't think it was right to skip a day of work just because she had intense sex the night before.

"It's my fault. I'll try not to overdo it next time," he said, leaning in to kiss Shuri's forehead.

"Can you?" Shuri raised her brows at him.

She didn't entirely believe him, but she didn't blame him either; after more than a decade apart, she too longed for this closeness.

Noran chuckled softly, not trusting himself either.

Then when he noticed that they were getting closer to her clinic, he said, "I'll fetch you after work."

"Aren't you busy?" Shuri replied, thinking of his responsibilities as Chairman of Paragon.

"I'll always have time for you, Rin." Noran's smile was warm. "Let's have dinner at your place tonight. I'll cook."

"Alright, I'll wait for you then," she agreed, knowing he'd most probably not let her go if she were to refuse him.

She had many questions, especially about how he became the chairman of Paragon and hoped to ask him over dinner.

The thought of dining with him and enjoying his home-cooked meal lifted her spirits, making her fatigue fade away.

As they arrived at her clinic, Shuri unbuckled her seatbelt and reached for the car door, but Noran grabbed her hand.

Turning toward him, she felt his lips crash onto hers.

"Uhm, Ran..."

Surprised at first, Shuri soon melted into the kiss, feeling a surge of warmth.

The driver, catching a glimpse in the rearview mirror, quickly looked away, his professionalism keeping him from intruding on his boss' private affair.

Perhaps Noran couldn't bear to let her go, as their kiss grew more intense.

Shuri found herself drawn closer, losing herself in the moment, her hands caressing his body freely.

Suddenly, a bark from Happy snapped her back to reality.

Realizing what she was doing, she quickly tried to pull away, but Noran, still engrossed, held her face, unwilling to break the kiss.

She tapped his shoulder, signaling him to stop.

His lips finally released hers, and he gazed at her with a look of regret.

Shuri smiled back, a mix of emotions in her eyes.

"Let's continue tonight," she said softly.

A smile quickly appeared on his face.

It appeared that she always knew what to say to make him happy.

Shuri swiftly exited the car, her cheeks still flushed.

Noran watched silently as her figure disappeared into the clinic, and after staring at the empty space for a few more moments, he instructed the driver to leave.

"Good morning, Dr. Lee," her medical staff on duty that day greeted her.

"Good morning." Shuri smiled at them.

"Dr. Lee, I found this package outside the clinic when I arrived today," Sora informed Shuri and placed the parcel on the counter.

Shuri glanced at the parcel, noticing her name.

"I don't remember ordering anything..." she murmured, reaching for it.

Sora, ever observant, spotted the diamond ring glinting on Shuri's fourth finger and exclaimed, "Oh my god, Dr. Lee! Are you getting married?"

Startled, Shuri looked at Sora's thrilled expression and then down at the ring, realizing she'd forgotten to remove it before coming to work.

The other two staff members quickly joined in, showering her with congratulations.

"Congratulations, Dr. Lee!"

"Please invite us to your wedding!"

Shuri smiled graciously. "Thank you all. We haven't set a date yet, but I'll let you know."

With that, she took the parcel and retreated to her consultation room, eager to escape the barrage of questions.

Closing the door, she set the parcel aside and was about to review her schedule when the door slid open again.

Bora entered, her eyes a mix of excitement and frustration. "Why didn't you tell me you're getting married? Do you not see me as your best friend?"

Shuri chuckled softly. "I was going to tell you after work..."

"So, who is it?" Bora interrupted, her impatience clear.

Shuri paused, considering how to break the news.

"Is it Jin?" Bora asked eagerly. "You said you weren't dating him. Don't tell me you ended up marrying him? Were you lying to me all along?"

Shuri shook her head with a slight smile. "It isn't him."

Bora's eyes widened in surprise. "Not him? Then who? Oh my god, Shuri! Don't leave me in suspense! How could you hide a secret lover from me all this time?"

"Bora, it's complicated. Can we talk after work? Our first patient is about to arrive."

Shuri gestured at the time, and Bora, looking frustrated, clenched her fists.

As much as curiosity gnawed at her, she knew her responsibilities as an associate veterinarian came first.

"You're not getting away without an answer today, you hear me?" Bora said, sliding the door shut as Shuri shook her head.

Throughout the morning, Shuri was swamped with patients, barely catching her breath until her break at noon.

Each case required her full attention, from routine check-ups to more complex procedures, leaving her with no time to dwell on personal matters.

As she finally took a moment to relax, there was a knock on the door.

Sora peeked in with a teasing smile. "Dr. Lee, your fiancé is here."

"My fiancé?" Shuri was startled.

No way!

Was Noran here?

Why hadn't he informed her that he was coming?

She quickly rushed out of her consultation room, only to find Jin seated in the waiting area, looking rather uneasy.

"Jin? Why are you here? You didn't mention you were coming."

Jin stood up and approached her. "I left you a message saying I'd drop by to pass you a charm that my mum wanted to give you."

Shuri quickly pulled out her phone and saw the message. "Oh, I'm sorry, I had a hectic morning..."

"Is it true?" Jin suddenly asked, his tone serious.

Shuri blinked in confusion. "Is what true?"

"That you're getting married?"

Realization dawned on her.

Sora must have congratulated Jin, assuming he was her fiancé.

Realizing he would find out eventually, Shuri nodded and replied softly, "Yes."

Jin's expression changed drastically, a mix of shock and disbelief washing over him.

It was as if the ground beneath him had shifted, and he struggled to comprehend her words.

"I-Is it him? That guy... the one who looked like Noran Kingston... what's his name? Ran Lee?" His voice held a note of bitterness.

He didn't believe the masked man who had followed Shuri around, someone she seemed to care about, was truly Noran Kingston.

When the man introduced himself with another name, Jin thought he was merely a look-alike.

"Yes." Shuri nodded again, her voice gentle. "I was planning to inform you later..."

"How long have you known that man?" Jin interrupted, his tone sharp. "Mrs. Hana told me you used to be a fan of Noran Kingston. Did you fall for him just because he looked like Noran?"

Shuri was taken aback by his question, unsure how to respond.

She realized Jin had mistaken Noran's identity, but it was understandable.

It was hard for anyone to believe that she was suddenly marrying the world-renowned classical pianist.

"Jin, it's complicated," she began, searching for the right words.

"There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding. Can we talk privately another time?"

Shuri glanced around, noticing her medical staff looking on uneasily. They had likely overheard everything, and she didn't want to create more confusion with vague explanations.

It would be better to properly introduce Noran when the time was right, rather than trying to explain in the short break they had.

This wasn't something she could clarify in a brief conversation.

Jin also realized it wasn't appropriate to continue the conversation here and decided not to pursue the matter for now.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb your break, Shuri. I'll come and find you later."

Initially, he hadn't planned to meet Shuri and only intended to leave the charm Aera got for her at the counter. However, he couldn't resist finding out more when he heard about her sudden engagement.

If he could, he would have waited for Shuri to finish work to talk to her, but the recent problems at Park Bank had kept him busy.

The bank was suffering significant losses due to targeted actions by an unknown rival, causing financial instability and a drop in client confidence.

Jin and his family were overwhelmed trying to manage the situation, unaware that Paragon was behind the strategic moves against the bank.

Shuri went back to her consultation room after Jin left, and left the charm on the counter, feeling it best to return it to Jin later.

She felt uneasy about continually accepting gifts from the Park family when she couldn't reciprocate.

While waiting for Bora to finish her work so they could go to lunch together, Shuri checked her unread messages.

A soft smile spread as she read Noran's text reminding her to eat; she replied with a heart and a "miss you" emoji.

The warmth quickly faded as she scrolled through the other messages, all asking about her engagement, likely spread by Hana.

She decided to ignore them for now.

Then, her attention shifted to the parcel on the table.

"I wonder who sent this..." she murmured, noting the absence of a sender's name.

As she opened it, her body froze.

Her eyes widened in shock and horror at the gruesome contents—a dismembered, skinned cat, with its organs placed beside it in a horrific display of brutality.
