Hell's Actor-Chapter 58: Ugly Creature
Chapter 58: Ugly Creature
About to break into Belphegor’s home, Beelzebub received a call.
It was from Lucifer.
"Did you get Belphegor?"
Beelzebub kicked the door in annoyance.
"He has locked himself in his home. I am about to break in."
"No need. Make haste. Return immediately."
"I am right outside his door. Just give me a moment. I will—"
"If he can’t be bothered, we don’t need him. He isn’t made for this, as I see it." For a moment, there was silence. "Reports suggest that around thirty percent of their faction has already mobilized. And many more are traveling still from across the country."
Beelzebub was sweating profusely. He was feeling the hunger. He needed to devour something.
"They must have been planning for some time now."
"Satan must be after my position. They will be organized. We will have to strike quickly, or else we won’t stand a chance. Return with your men. We need to plan our offense."
Beelzebub cut the call, kicked the door out of frustration, and left while cursing under his breath.
The scene changed.
Satan’s luxurious mansion—nearly as large as Lucifer’s—was currently housing a great number of guests.
Roaming its hallways were about sixty of his men carrying semi-automatic rifles. They wore bulletproof vests and tactical helmets. Chained to their hips were highly alert trained hounds.
On the roof, a total of four men were lying on their stomachs—two pairs of snipers and spotters.
They were facing west, where Lucifer’s office was located.
In the innermost room of the mansion, Satan was sitting patiently while Mammon paced around.
"Who did this?" The greedy man was biting on his nails. "Who fucked me?"
He cursed everyone and their mother. He punched the air and uttered every disgusting word known to man.
"How are they already aware?" he babbled. "We are not prepared for this yet!"
The trio had managed to gather a significant amount of their strength, but the numbers weren’t anywhere near overwhelming enough.
They needed more time. But he knew Lucifer would not allow that.
"Butler." Mammon’s face twisted. "He must have betrayed me."
It was difficult to believe, but it was the most logical conclusion.
"But why? Why would he do that?"
He was being paid generously, after all.
"If he was going to betray me anyway, why did he not inform Asmodeus about the plan to ambush him? Had he known, I would be dead already. Does that rat not want me dead?"
Leviathan, who had been spying on his brothers, opened the door and entered.
He shook his head to Mammon’s questioning gaze.
"I couldn’t get in touch with them."
"They are your men, right?" Mammon asked sarcastically. "Then, how the fuck do you not know where they are?!" freёnovelkiss-com
Leviathan had tried calling them. He had even sent someone to sniff them out.
Even still, a large majority of his subordinates remained missing.
"They have been missing since yesterday, right?" Mammon threw his hands in the air dramatically. "Even missing pets return to their homes after that long. Are your men more dumb than animals?"
The stress had him behaving like a psychotic man.
"Did they hide after Asmodeus’s death? Are they afraid, huh?"
With deep breaths, he tried to calm himself.
"What about the scumbags you sent to your armory? Will they be on time at least?"
Leviathan bit his lower lip.
He didn’t need to answer.
The sheer irritation could be seen on Mammon’s face.
"They are not answering either, are they?"
He drew obnoxiously close to Leviathan’s face, taunting him with his eyes.
"Are they cowards?"
He looked him dead in the eye.
The distance made it seem like he was observing an ant.
"Are your men cowards like you, you jealous little bitch? Did they inherit it from their boss?"
Leviathan didn’t know much about the situation either. He hadn’t managed to gather much. There was no one left to inform him.
Mammon continued pacing around the room.
"Did they know about our plans in advance?" His steps became quick. "Did Lucifer capture them while we were ambushing Asmodeus?"
Satan didn’t look much bothered by any of it. His resentment towards Lucifer had blinded him.
Leviathan, on the other hand, was starting to doubt if it wasn’t his two brothers who did something to his men.
No one else knew about the men he had sent to his armory. Could they be planning to betray him once Lucifer was dead? Were they colluding behind his back?
Such doubts were starting to take root in his head.
Mammon was the only one sweating buckets.
He had found themselves with less manpower than he had predicted, and he understood how critical that was.
"We have already scattered our forces throughout the city," he muttered, biting his nails. "We need more."
Throughout the city, in every bar and around every corner, they had posted their men. Once the first bullet was fired, they would spring to action.
"This will be scrappy."
Meanwhile, Lucifer was at Beelzebub’s restaurant, discussing strategy with his men.
In front of him were the high-ranking members of his faction, men who had worked under his father for most of their lives.
"Each of you will take your numbers and raid my brothers’ establishments throughout the city."
He was smoking a cigarette.
"We won’t be able to storm Satan’s place directly. We would be ambushed on the way if we tried. They will have barricades set up, and if we tried to drive through, they would riddle the cars with bullets."
"They will try to take your head," one of the men said.
"Exactly. They will be waiting for me at multiple junctures throughout the city. It won’t be safe to rush in with a convoy."
"So, we should ambush them before they ambush us?"
"Precisely."
"You understand what this means, right? The whole city will go up in flames. There will be so much bloodshed the government will be forced to take action. The public outcry means a lot to these politicians."
"That’s a matter for after the war."
Beelzebub, enjoying a paella, scowled.
"Do you fear the prison now, old man?"
"Watch your mouth, kid. I worked with your father for decades. I won’t hesitate to beat the rudeness out of you."
"No need to leave anyone alive," Lucifer continued, ignoring the words exchanged. "No need to save bullets or explosives."
He walked towards the seven paintings hanging proudly on the wall.
"Blast them out of their rat holes. Run them over if you want."
He stood in front of the depiction of Satan.
It was an ugly and horrendous creature, not unlike his brother.
Lucifer reached forward and put out his cigarette on the painting.
That ugly creature of wrath had tarnished his pride.
"Kill everyone."
