Hellhound At Supernatural Academy-Chapter 27: Home Cooked Meal
Chapter 27: Home Cooked Meal
Together, Ava and I made it back to the dormitories. I directed her to my room, 307. She seemed nervous, speaking less than she had before. Arriving in front of my door, I opened it and welcomed her inside. At the same moment, I spotted Amelia staring at me, and let's just say her expression was less than favorable.
"Do you know what time it is?! You should have been home hours ago! I'm starving, and the fridge is practically empty!"
"Seriously, Sin, where have you been? Don't tell me you left us to starve while you went off on a date. You've got responsibilities, you know," Jeffrey chimed in, phasing out of his room as if summoned to join Amelia's nagging.
I ignored their pestering and walked right past them without uttering a word. I had learned from past experience that engaging with them when they were upset would only lead to a pointless debate. Used this strategy countless times on Nina. It was a foolproof method that guaranteed peace of mind. Though it annoyed me when they treated me like a personal chef, I would have to take my frustration out on them in a different way.
"Oh, this is Ava. She'll have dinner with us tonight," I said, making my way to the kitchen to cook a meal for these ungrateful imps.
What should I make for dinner? Maybe some vegetable curry? Personally, I could go for egg fried rice, but I wasn't sure if the others would like it. Let's go for a safe choice: stir-fried vegetables with pork chops might go over well. Decision made!
The process began by marinating the pork chops in a bowl with soy sauce, olive oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper. After about half an hour, I began cooking them for five minutes. Then moved on to the stir-fried vegetables, using many of the same flavors used for the pork chops. After another 15 minutes, the meal was set and ready to be served.
Before I served it, I popped out of the kitchen to see how things were going with the others. Ava was sitting quietly, listening to Jeffrey and Amelia ramble on about nonsense. She occasionally joined in on their conversations. Jeffrey seemed to take a liking to her, telling stories that were far too exaggerated to be true, knowing how he actually was. But she wasted no time in calling him out on his nonsense.
I brought the food out to everyone seated around the table, and we began eating together.
"So, Sin, what's going on with you and Sarah? There have been some strange rumors going around about you two," Jeffrey asked, his tone implying something more.
"Sarah is my partner; she's helping me organize the class."
"It didn't seem like that to me. Especially when she was spoon feeding you at lunch."
Wait, how does he know about that? Starker. I need to be more careful from this point on. If someone like Jeffrey can spy on me without my knowledge, I shudder to think who else might be lurking in the shadows.
"You should be careful with her, Sin. I've been hearing some things lately," Amelia chimed in.
"What kind of things?!" Jeffrey jumped in seeming excited at hearing about gossip.
"I will be careful, thanks for the advice," I replied. It was best to end the conversation there.
As if sensing my intent to change the subject, Ava chimed in with a different topic.
"When you said you could cook, I thought you were joking, but this is actually good. It tastes like it was made in a five-star restaurant. This is truly amazing!" Ava said, her eyes sparkling until she caught herself and changed her expression to one of indifference. "I-I mean, it's just that it's better than the pre-packaged meals at the convenience store... it's barely passable, honestly."
"Can't you just give me a compliment like a normal person?"
Her face turned into a frown as she misunderstood what I had just said. This is what happens when someone fails to use any logic—they explode over the smallest remark.
"Are you saying I'm not normal?! Well, excuse me, 'Mr. I'm in love with the sun.' You're the least normal person I know, and to top it off, you're a sneaky pervert who loves peeking underneath girls' skirts!"
"Can you stop going around saying stuff like that? You'll give me a bad reputation!"
This girl is so infuriating. Why couldn't she keep her mouth shut and just eat the food?
"I'm more normal than yo—" I stopped myself at the last second. What was I doing? My motto is to avoid pointless discussions. If I gave in to her childishness, I could never forgive myself. I would be no better than Amelia or Jeffrey, and just the thought of that terrified me.
"Wow, Sin, I've never heard you yell like that," Amelia said.
"Have you no shame? How could you speak to a beautiful girl like that?! If she said your food is no better than pre-packaged meals, then she's obviously right," Jeffrey said, seizing the moment to try to score some points with Ava. It was a valiant effort but she didn't so much as look at him; she was still fuming at me.
After finishing our meal, I escorted Ava to her dorm room.
"Thank you! I-I really enjoyed the meal today," she said as we walked along the halls to the elevator.
"You enjoyed it? What about it being barely more enjoyable than the pre-packaged meals at the convenience store?"

"Hey, I'm trying to be nice!" she replied, clearly displeased. "I swear you're so infuriating," she mumbled under her breath.
You're one to talk.
"Thank you, I'm glad you liked it."
"Wow, was that so hard to say? Anyway, I'm good from here; you can go back to your room."
"Are you sure? I was planning on walking you straight to your door."
"Yeah, I'm sure. I don't want anyone to see you walking me back to my dorm. I don't know how I would live down the embarrassment if that happened."
"I don't think it would be that bad. Am I really that embarrassing?"
"Yes! Being seen with a boy from Class D is pretty much guaranteed to end your social life. So I would humbly like to ask you not to talk to me at school. I've wanted to tell you that for a while now, but I didn't have the heart to. Whew," she exclaimed, relieved. "Glad to get that off my chest."
"Okay, I'll see you tomorrow at school." I said leaving her at the entrance of the elevator.
"See? No talking, right?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'll act as if I don't even know you."
That girl is so hot and cold. If she's so embarrassed to be seen with me, why would she go through all the trouble of partnering with me for the special exercise? Speaking of which, I wonder when it will be announced.
