HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 94: Lilian’s Pity (3)
Liam, the main subject of the conversation, finally stepped forward, positioning himself beside Lilian and drew the attention.
To say he was flattered would be an understatement.
He had always been the center of admiration for the opposite gender. These privilege young misses were no different for him.
All it usually took was a gentle smile in their direction, and their faces would flush crimson, like freshly steamed buns.
However, he never anticipated that one of these privileged young misses would go so far as to stand up for him.
And against President Kingston at that.
Liam had always assumed they were too arrogant and only cared for their own faces, but it seemed they also were defenseless against his charms, just like every other woman he had met in his life.
’’Why should you apologize, Liam?!’’ Lilian declared boldly, using his first name. ’’You did nothing absolutely wrong!’’ She believed that her first love was with no obvious fault. Why should he apologize when she was merely stating the truth?
Lilian momentarily forgot the intimidation that pressured her and felt more inclined to stand up for her first love
"I appreciate your kind intentions, Young Miss Hitson..." Liam responded in a gentle tone. His expression warm, yet a flicker of annoyance burned within him.
’Foolish young miss.’
He couldn’t help but look down on her, resenting the unnecessary trouble she was causing him at the moment.
Didn’t she realize the complications her actions could bring to him?
Did she want to sabotage his career right at this moment?
Although he appreciated her kind gesture to stand up for him, it was more than annoyance right now.
’’But....your actions actually do come off as rude.’’ He awkwardly pointed out with a polite smile. It wouldn’t be good to come right off the bat with his honest thoughts.
’’But she ignores you....’’ Lilian tried to argue.
’’I am only an adopted son, Young miss Hitson.’’
He was just a mere adopted young master, and could never be the same as the real one. That’s why this foolish young miss should not cause any more trouble for him.
She had already done more than done enough.
Then again, Liam could use this dedicated admiration of hers for his own benefits, like marriage and building more of his wealth.
But....
Perhaps he had set his standards so high that he could not handle the thought of marrying just any young miss from a family of lesser standing than the Kingston family.
Liam has already experienced the life of living with the Kingston family’s name.
Even if he was just an adopted young master, it did not change that many young misses and top female artists regarded him as a top bachelor. His life as a top actor couldn’t be possible without the strings his adoptive uncle had pulled for him.
All in all, Liam did not want to reduce the privileged life he was enjoying right now. And he certainly would not allow this foolish young miss to destroy the life for him.
’’L-Liam....’’ Lilian’s voice and confidence wavered at Liam’s immediate and straightforward retort. Even the gaze he regarded her with, Lilian could sense that he wasn’t all that pleased with her.
Why?
Why wasn’t he taking her side?
She was standing up for him, wasn’t she?
’’President Kingston may not have acknowledged me as a member of the family....’’ Liam carefully chose his words. ’’But I’m still living as the adopted son of Uncle and Aunt. That alone is more than enough, Young miss Hitson.’’
’’.....’’
He turned away from Lilian’s stunned silence and met Ayana’s hazel eyes. ’’Please do pardon her actions, President Kingston.’’ He looked apologetic. ’’Young miss Hitson merely acted on a small misunderstanding.’’
To think he could talk outright to the woman who had forever ignored him in the past years.
His estranged relationship still remained the same with the President Kingston. She was not like the other regular young misses who blushed first sight at him.
No...she was someone that one could hardly meet at a banquet. But, in those rare times that Liam got to see her in the past years, she had never bothered to acknowledge him.
Feeling that President Kingston was someone displeased with himself, Liam did his best not to incur more of her dislike.
This was the first time he could openly speak to her.
He felt somewhat pleased to have those hazel eyes on himself. That strange desire he held towards the President Kingston crept in his heart at the sight of them once more.
’’I also have no intention of replacing you, First young master.’’ He added, turning his sights to the quiet man beside the woman of his thoughts.
’’.....’’ The silence remained between them.
’So this is the first young master.’ Liam’s gaze shifted slightly in curiosity.
’’Uncle and Aunt have always voiced out their worries for you, first young master.’’ He faced Noah with a sincere smile. ’’This adoption is more than what one could ever ask for, and I’m forever grateful for it.’’
Was this truly someone who had been ill his whole life?
Liam wondered earlier at first sight.
The first young master was nothing like a sick young master from the rumors. If anything, he looked healthier than himself, an actor with a fixed diet and lifestyle.
In response to Liam’s words was nothing but silence. A pin-dropping silence that intensified the tension around the small group.
’...Have I said something wrong?’ Liam’s smile almost went stiff as the uncomfortable silence stretched for another moment. He hadn’t said anything offensive, has he?
’’Madam Hitson.’’
’’Y-Yes...’’ On the side, Madam Hitson stuttered in response, not expecting to be suddenly called out.
’’On the account of my business relationship with your husband, I won’t hold your daughter accountable for her rudeness.’’ Ayana stated calmly, staring deeply at her. ’’It would do you best to educate your daughter on the etiquette of basic courtesy.’’
’You’ve always taught me the etiquette of basic courtesy.....’ Lilian suddenly recalled her own words and understood that they were thrown back at her, more so at her actions.
’’You....!’’
Ayana ignored the humiliated Lilian and turned around with the intention of leaving.
Before taking a step further, she paused briefly, and glanced over her shoulder, her gaze icy, freezing both Madam Hitson and Lilian in place. ’’But that does not mean I am a fool to spare your family if either of you crosses the line next time.’’
With those chilling words, Ayana walked away, and Noah followed behind her in silence.
’.....Again.’
Liam inwardly took note as he regarded their disappearing backs into the crowd of guests. Even if he was the first one to reach out, President Kingston ignored him without hesitation, just like their first meeting.
Though she stared at him this time a bit longer than the past before speaking with Madam Hitson.
That sense of resentment still lingered around her, and it was directed to himself, mostly. Not her relatives, with whom she had an estranged relationship with.
’’Liam, are you okay? I didn’t expect that she and the first young master would ignore you again.’’
’’....’’ Without a word, Liam turned his gaze to Lilian, who worriedly gazed at him. His honey brown eyes flashed slightly, and his lips curved to a small smile.
’’I’m not worth your concern, Young miss Hitson.’’ He said gently. ’’Please don’t behave like that to President Kingston, especially if it is for my sake.’’ There was a hint of defeat and helplessness in the tone of his voice.
’’Liam....’’ Rather than feeling scolded, Lilian’s heart ached with more pity for her first love. Her concerns and admiration for his humbleness only deepened, and her dislike for President Kingston and the First young master burned even brighter in her heart.
’’.....’’ Beside the pair was Madam Hitson, who unexpectedly regarded them in silence, her expression unreadable.
Meanwhile, Ayana and Noah were walking to the entrance of the banquet hall through the crowded guests.
’’President Kingston, it’s been a while.’’
’’President Kingston, it’s nice meeting you.’’ 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
’’President Kingston....’’
The guests were more eager to greet her, even if it was obvious that she was leaving the banquet hall. Well, it didn’t matter to them. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet President Kingston in person. Who knew when they’d see her again? After all, she was rarely seen at social gatherings.
On the other hand, Ayana remained unfazed. She kept her expression composed and her strides purposeful, barely sparing more than a polite nod here and there.
Her goal was just to leave this place. She had no extra time to spare for a conversation with another.
’’President Kingston, it’s an honor....’’ Another guest eagerly approached Ayana, but in his haste, he accidentally bumped into a young lady nearby. The lady wobbled on her heels and stumbled, falling directly into Ayana’s path.
Luckily, Ayana’s reflexes were swift. She reached out instinctively and caught the young lady by her shoulders, steadying her before an accident could have happened.
The incident happened so quickly that the surrounding guests took a moment to register what occurred right now.
’’She almost fell.’’
’’She’s lucky.’’
’’President Kingston is kind.’’
’’Did she trip on purpose?’’
’’No, it’s his fault.’’
’’W-Wait...I-I didn’t mean to...’’ The man who caused the commotion stammered, his face pale as he instinctively took a step back, trying to defend himself.
’’Eve!’’
’’Are you okay?’’
’’What happened?’’ A small group of young women hurried forward, concern etched on their faces as they approached the young lady in Ayana’s arms.
All gazes were concentrated on the young lady that none failed to noticed Ayana whose expression suddenly stiffened on the spot.
’’Oh dear, thank you for catching me...’’ The young lady, now identified as Evelyn, looked up at Ayana with an uneasy smile. As her eyes met Ayana’s, recognition flashed in her gaze.
’’P-President Kingston?’’
